QoL update for being locked in Cutscenes MAJORLY needed

There's nothing more frustrating I find in FFXIV than being queued for a duty, with a different job and being locked from doing ANYTHING. I myself enjoy the lore of FFXIV and want to take the time to read whats happening or watch current the cutscene. However, if I'm in a scene with dialogue or a cutscene while a Duty Finder pops. I can't change to whatever class I queued as while in a scene. I either have to skip EVERYTHING and lose out on details ( if its only dialogue) or skip a scene entirely (IF it gives you the option too) just to switch jobs before the timer runs out. If I choose to test my luck and press on reading the scene at my pace, hoping I don't run out if time I have to worry about a duty penalty of I don't make it.

Please fix this. Going back to your journal to "rewatch a scene" is not a solution to this.

That's why I don't watch cutscenes or do quests when I'm queuing for something. Solves that problem.

Should never have to be that way either. Your "solution" to the issue just encourages the issue further.

That's comparable to saying "One room of my house is completely dirty. If I don't go in there though, I dont have to worry about the mess."

I'm not seeing anything for them to fix. If you could change your job and accept into the duty, then you're just going to get cut off when you get pulled in anyway. And now you have to deal with your chat screens being visible so you lose immersion.

Just expect that you're probably going to have cutscenes when you quest and don't queue while you're questing unless you're willing to have to cut out of cutscenes quickly.

what's your solution then?

Mikko has the right of it really. When you queue for a duty there's the Average Wait Time for a reason, so you have an idea on what you can go and do. The duty finder needs to have a penalty to people not accepting, you just wasted a queue pop for 3/7/23 other people if you don't click in. If you want to take the time and read whatever it is your doing, budget your time accordingly is the very simple and correct solution.

Being "Immersed" isn't my worry. I could careless if a chat box pops up in the bottom corner of my screen. That can happen by default just by pressing "enter". What's so difficult to propose "switch to queued role" while being in a scene or dialogue. I'd MUCH rather go back previous steps and redo a quest then skip the thing entirely.

Solution? "Switch to queued role" when hitting accept. Seems pretty simple to me. Yes you're right there's a timer. The "average" time isn't always right nor law either. There has been plenty times an average time has been 10min and you can get in with 5min. Also, you dont " waste" a queue for people who have been waiting. If someone doesn't accept, you get put into a priority queue which is almost ALWAYS instant.

"Budget your time accordingly" You're playing a MMO.... xD

Right, you budget your time when you're playing a MMO or any game. You prioritize what's most important for the time you have available.

There are a few possible solutions for you to use:

• Stop queuing for duties when you want to be doing quests and watching cutscenes.
• Stay in the job that you used when you queued for the duty if you're going to be watching cutscenes.
• Abandon the quest after you get out of the duty and restart it so you can watch the cutscene while you are not queued for another duty.
• Ignore the duty so the game will automatically withdraw you after 60 seconds. That can happen twice every 24 hours without penalty. If it happens a third time, you'll get hit with the deserter penalty. This shouldn't be happening enough on a daily for you to reach the point of getting hit with the penalty.

Definitely. There's literally no reason to be opposed to this. But I imagine it would be harder to implement than it should be based on how hard simple things have been for them to implement in the past.

When you get pulled in, you should automatically be switched to the job and gear you queued as When you exit the instance, the cutscene should resume from the point where it was interrupted.

If you're already on the job in question and click accept, it cancels the cutscene without marking that step of questing done; when you come back out of whatever you queued into, you can restart the cutscene. If you hit Escape to cancel the cutscene and skip it, however, it marks it as done/watched and you have to go find it in the inn journal to watch it afterwards.

There is no way to manually do the first behavior (cancel cutscene) as opposed to the second (skip cutscene), which I suspect is the complaint.

Either adding a 'cancel/back out' so you can bounce and change job without losing the cutscene, or giving an 'Accept and Change Job' button while in the cutscene would address the issue.

This problem is why, when I can, do a cutscene on the job that I queue up as. So I can accept it, and come back to do the cutscene from the beginning again, not missing anything. Yes there are times where you can't do it, due to level/job requirements and such. So I have been able to limit that problem a little, but, yes, it would be nice if there was a real solution.

I also want to put it out there: Canceling dialogue should take one click. I have been killed in Bozja over being locked in the turn in fate quest dialogue and could do nothing but watch, furiously smashing escape, as I was nuked by four aoes.

I've had the same problem and I agree it should be fixed. While sitting in a long queue you might want to do something like play through a little story content on a different class, but if the queue pops in the middle of dialogue you have 2 options: let the dialogue finish and miss the queue, or skip the dialogue and lose it forever. There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to just cancel out of dialogue and start it over; it's one of those basic things that pretty much every story driven game lets you do that's conspicuously missing from this game.

Pretty much every extremely basic feature this game is missing usually boils down to spaghetti code.

I think they're just saying hey let us click commence no matter the cut scene I'm in. And just have it reset the conversation.

Wouldn't mind them figuring out a way to do it like SWTOR does. Just hit escape in a cutscene and it'll be like you haven't talked to the NPC yet. Engine's probably not built for it though or something.

My suggestion would be if I'm in a cutscene, the que "shifts" my spot for the next person available until I'm out of the cutscene. Like "waiting in line and I suddenly need to take a call and allow the person behind me to go next until I'm done" sort of thing.

I'm of the same opinion. I want to do my Dailies and que, but I got stuck in a CS (one I'm wasn't aware of was going to happen) and don't want to skip it as some CS are not in the Inn's book to rewatch cutscenes. I like reading up on the story and characters so I avoid them.

Heck even when I'm waiting on my party members and they que while I'm in the cutscene and it pops instantly. I wish for another option to help.

Though if I accept while in the cutscene it CANCELS the progress so when I'm done I return to the NPC to re-start the cutscene. It's there, just not well-known.

No, in this case, the engine's demonstrably able to handle it (since it does exactly that behind the scenes when you're on the correct job already and just click accept). It's just that Escape is used to skip cutscenes, and we evidently don't have any user-triggerable input bound to the 'cancel out' function.

I've been having trouble with the "accept without skipping" approach to cutscenes lately. Half the time it gives some kind of error when you try to accept the duty - something about being occupied, I think - and it will not let you do it without skipping the cutscene (or cancelling the duty queue). I'm keeping track as I come across them and might try filing it as a bug report if I get enough data about which ones do and don't let you skip.

If it's technically possible, a good solution might be to pause your place in the queue (or let you climb to #1 and then pause) while you're watching cutscenes.

I have to admit that im pretty flabbergasted that some people would be oppose to a QoL change that effects no one but themselves (in a good way...)

Being told "Stay your lvl 60 rdm if you want to queue" oppose to being able to level up say my monk at 45 while I wait... Love the community but cmon...

Some players arn't what some would consider "casual" and can put alot more time in than others.

Everything you suggested is everything wrong with the system and can be fixed with a simple Quality of Life update. What exactly is wrong with updating a feature that does literally nothing bad. Instead of suggesting a "work around" to a faulty system, tell me why "Commence duty as queued role" is a bad idea & how it wouldnt benefit players?

It's FAR more efficient to be able to queue for duties while doing job quests on the side. Makes ZERO sense how it isnt. THAT would be managing your time better.

Queuing for DPS then waiting 15min+ DOING NOTHING sounds "real" time efficient...

Many times it's not even an option. A LOT of scenes are not in there.

In SWTOR you could hit (I think) esc during personal scenes and you would cancel the scene. It would be as if you never watched the scene, and you could just start it again with the NPC when you got done.
