What I expect from the expansion reveal livestream

New Expansion: Forspoken!

We will be heading to Sharlayan to defeat another evil dragon and go head to head with Zenos once again!
The world map will still be covered with clouds.

Expansion Features:

Dungeons
Making 1 new dungeon every patch is too much work for our small team so we decided to only add 1 new dungeon every other patch. We will use the extra development time from this to instead improve upon the Diadem and make it more engaging and fun for botte-.. botanists and miners.

Male Viera/Female Hrothgar
We heard your pleas and we decided to not add the missing genders to these races because it will be too much work to make them be able to wear hats. Instead, we will make hats compatible with the current genders. Please know that since it is very very hard to do, we will only be adding a few hats every patch.

Character Customization
We cannot let WoW's new character creator outshine us. We will be adding more hairstyles for all races (except Hrothgar and Viera because that is very difficult to do, please understand).
Due to our spaghetti code, we will not be adding other customization options in this expansion, but someday in the future, we might. Please look forward to it.

Housing
Ishgard housing will be available in 6.1. We looked over our budget and decided against fixing the current housing conundrum as it would be too expensive and difficult to do (please understand).


Battle System

Job Changes!

Level cap increased to 90.

Tanks will be further homogenized and the only difference between them will be animations, so please choose which aesthetic you like the most!

Same with healers, but we removed all DPS capabilities from them apart from 1 DoT skill.

New Limited Jobs: Beast Master and Chemist

Beast Master
Beast Masters will use a whip and will be able to tame any monster on Hydaelyn. Level cap will be 50 at launch and will have the same restrictions as Blue Mage.

Chemist:
Chemists is a limited job that requires you to be level 90 on Alchemist before you are able to acquire the job crystal. Chemists will be able to mix potions to heal! Due to the nature of limited jobs, Chemists will only be able to heal Blue Mages and Beast Masters. Chemists will have the same restrictions and Blue Mage and beast Master.

Because it feels like some people hate subscribe to this game so they can complain about it constantly.

There's people who are passionate about the game but aren't blind to its flaws. Lately, one of the biggest issues has been the claim that various desirable features would be 'too hard' to implement.

I thought the original post was pretty funny with that in mind. Why not take it as a bit of playful ribbing instead of some deeply personal attack?

Mostly because it's constant on the forums from a few people.


It gets old. Real old.


Sure there are things I'm not thrilled with in the game. The "do you want to open this door" messages in dungeon, lack of updated player models and textures.


But that doesn't remove my ability to enjoy the game, and I don't feel the need to constantly moan about things I don't like on the forums.


Usually negativity is met with things being removed. Hence why people complain about raids not being raids anymore. They were negative about trash and skipped/complained all the time.

Reinforcing the things that you like is a much better idea imo.

It give them something to build on, instead of something they need to take away

Haven’t taken it as a personal attack. Taken it for what it is, whining from jaded players who might be better off moving on if they can’t find something about a new expansion to be excited about.

A lot of us have fun with this game and get tired of seeing the same people btching and crying about the same things over and over.

whatever expectations you have, you will most certainly be disappointed. I can tell you that much for sure. lol

If they don't fix healers in 6.0 I'm stopping with 14, seriously, healers have been a mess ever since 5.0 and everyone knows why, they along with tanks have always been my two preferred roles in games and it sucks so much that they have no substance in 5.0.

If they further homogenize tanks? I'd be REALLY done with this game.

This thread is kinda fun, so gonna make my own contribution:
- Since pets are so annoying, summoner and scholar pets will now be temporary and given a recast timer like Bahamut-egi and Phoenix, and will have their own assigned skills during their temporary summon, you also can't control what they attack, much like the
Machinist autoturret and automaton queen
- Removed tank stance entirely, tanks now have a trait that makes them generate more aggro for the damage they deal, now instead of forgetting stance you can spend more time forgetting to use cooldowns during large pulls
- Because healers dealing damage is so problematic, we've removed all damage skills and given you a chocobo to heal for open world and solo instance content instead, now you can truly embrace your role of standing behind things spamming cure 1 while waiting
for everyone else to actually kill the mobs
- Made changes to the ranged role as a whole, removed Tactician, Shield Samba, and Troubadour, replaced them with /comfort, /soothe, and /console to fulfil their role as support dps

They will announce the fourth healer. What they don't say outright is that they will be making this fourth healer by giving it the abilities they pruned from AST and SCH. They removed them in ShB hoping we would forget these abilities existed. It will also have shield and regen stances.

They'll add a single new item to the achievement shop.
Following the 2 PVP armor sets per type in SB and 1 PVP armor set per type in ShB, they'll now add 0 new sets in next expansion. Also no weapons, maybe some new towels.

I don't know why people are so excited about WoW's updated character creation. It's still way less than FFXIV has and barely better than what they had before. Mostly just a new UI. They separated a few features and added a handful of more options, like a few more skin tones and hair colors.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to see more in FFXIV.

I think it's more because Blizzard showed off a lot of stuff and concepts when they announced they were updating the Character creation and people here are going off of that, when very little of what they talked about or showed was actually added (like upright undead) While yes, WoW did update their creator, a lot of it was just changing the UI or adding previews like see some armour, see some animations that kind of stuff. The other stuff was just more hairstyles and jewellery, things we already get every patch and other things we already have, like the ability to customize eyes individually.

Ironically, people who say because WoW did it 14 needs to step up neglect to mention than all WoW's done is actually almost bring theirs on par with what 14 has now, and if ours is so lacking (I'd like more too) Then it's kind of sad to herald WoW's for just getting to about the same state.

Maybe I'll have to download wow and check again, but a couple years ago I worked out in excel the possible visual combinations of a single race/gender.

Wow Male human was 183,600. FFXIV Male Midlander is 43,834,139,568,563,300,000,000,000,000,000. (all those zeros may be a loss of precision in the spreadsheet) Granted FFXIV has a lot of subtle differences that you would never see, such as two or more adjacent skintones, or height differences, etc., but that subtlety is what makes it better imo.

EDIT: New WoW Male Human: 30,433,148,928

I have my expectations, but they are pretty well tempered. An expansion announcement and trailer is probably a given, seeing as Fanfest isn't happening this time around. Other than that it's hard to say. I think it'll be a pretty big information dump (new jobs, features, etc) but it very well might not be.

To clarify, I am in no way saying I do not want nor should 14 update it's core features, I recall in a past interview Yoshi saying he wanted 14 to "go the distance" and that a time would come when 14 would need it's core systems upgraded and it's engin looked at and that would be when things like the creator and graphics would get looked at.
I just don't agree with the notion that it's "do or die" now, Shadowbringers is enjoying critical acclaim and pretty much when anyone talks about MMO's it's WoW and 14 being the first mentioned.
I've been saying to my friends that 14 needs a Cataclysm expansion (In the sense of one heavy on improvements not an actual calamity) but I predicted it would come no sooner than 7.0 with it being the beginning of "Season 2" it made sense, "New story, new game" ect, though I'd welcome it sooner.

I would say that after Shadowlands' customization additions, their character customization (not for every race tho) is almost at the same level as XIV, that would only get the upper hand due to the truckload amount of hairstyles and much broader color palletes to choose.

In the end, I really think XIV's models are aging much better than WoW models did, but here we lack (apart from the 2 examples line above) meaningful customization options. All characters look the same, because we have just a tiny amount of face options and the details (nose, mouths, eyebrows...) barely make any difference.

They could give in 6.0, not a character model revamp, don't think that's needed yet, but more character options to play with. Detach Au Ra horns from the faces, add more faces, new tail models, make face details more consistent, and above all, since we are no longer tied to the old playstation system, they got to give us better textures... There's no reason to keep the blurry ones we have.

To be fair, a lot of FFXIV's customisation options are also not used very often. Some of the base faces are very unconventionally attractive/uncanny valley and typically avoided as a result. Some race/gender combinations suffer from that problem more than others.

you won't see much in terms of body sliders because they can't refit the gear for all those things.

TBH I'm not expecting sliders, really. I think just more distinct static options across the board would be great.

I'm expecting either of two things:

A real addressing of the bot problem in this game

or

The admission nothing can be done and the bots are just as valid as the rest of us, if not more so.

Since forum threads are thankfully not limited unlike certain jobs just create a happy positive thread. People are always angry if someone stays something positive and gets negative replies, yet the other way is fine?
If there is too much negativity on the forum (the only place where people can truly post their opinions and views of FF14) then be the change and start posting positive threads. And if those are buried under negatives ones then maybe there are more people unhappy about something not being right in their view.

I expect no new dungeons besides the initial 6.0 push, all new content between 6.1 to 7.0 will be crafting related with some attempts at PvP. PvE content will represent 10% of the developers time and they may make the new relics somewhat PvE related but mostly Crafting and have the final steps in pvP.
