REFUND Option for tome gear

Hello? Yoshi-P. This is your community PLEEEEADING with you to allow us the ability to trade back accidental purchases of tome gear.

I attempted to buy cryptlurker's glove.. bought it. was SURE I clicked on it. NOPE.. belt. WHY IS THERE NO SELLBACK OPTION?:mad:

That sounds like a you problem. Also, there is a refund option. It's called desynthesis. Instead of getting tomestones back, you get gil back from selling the item you got from desynthesis.

Would be a user friendly option to turn in gear you accidentally bought if not worn yet. Just like the buy back option we have there should be a return option provided we have a receipt.

I...don't see the issue with wanting or having a refund option. No, Desynthesis is not a viable option when it comes to wasting current tomes. Does the system check with you before you make a purchase? Yes. Does it double check? Also yes. But mistakes happen, and I think it would be great for people to have a way to get their tomes back to purchase what piece of gear they want. I do think, however, that the refund should be forfeit after a certain amount of time has passed, or if the person went into combat therefore increasing the spirit bond.

It's possible that the system can't track whether you've used it when it isn't something that binds to you like marketboard gear, and it certainly wouldn't have a timer record of how long you've owned it.

It's annoying if it happens but I don't think it would be common enough to justify building a system for it.

Anyway, doesn't it bring up a confirmation prompt listing the specific item you're buying?

I think in all of my years of playing I did it once, and it was back in ARR. I don't recall there being actual prompts initially but it has been a long, long time. I can't say for sure. Can't say I hear about it enough to consider it an actual problem either, so yeah, I don't think it's a common occurrence. But I also don't see the harm in having a system like this. Would it be worth it financially? Probably not, no. But I wouldn't be against them if they decided to do it one day because I think it's a good idea.

Here, fixed it for you.

You can have a one time item restoration used for such things. Call up a GM and request it.
Again it's literally once ever, so if a week or two of tomestones is worth it to you, blow it on that.

Just confirming - when you select to buy an item from the tome vendor, it brings up a confirmation box saying "exchange XXX Allagan tomestones for an [item]?" so you cannot simply click the wrong thing in the list and instantly purchase it.

Maybe if you double-clicked it and the "OK" button popped up directly under your cursor, you could accidentally buy it, but in any other case you have that confirmation and it's up to you to read it.

Guys. I have an overactive mouse that works against me-- Logitech G600 are hyper sensitive to pressure so accidental clicks occur here and there.

I was running a low grade fever so, yeah.. I was medicated and also wasn't wearing my glasses.. sure.. all of these are ME problems for this instance but I don't think I'm so special that I'm the only one who hasn't ran into this. I'm sure there has been plenty of frustrated accidental purchases.. especially back when I was running through Heavensward and getting accustomed to how to upgrade gear.. gotta buy the RIGHT reagent for the right piece otherwise that's wasted but it's not nearly as frustrating when I'm trying to keep up with current for your static and I make such a grosse mistake that should be redeemable with a simple refund feature that is non negotiable if you did anything to spiritbond it to yourself.

And? Yes, many of us are aware of the processes but mistakes can happen for various reasons so what exactly do you feel you are adding here?

I'm kinda frustrated with the number of people that are so socially inept that they feel the need to come into a thread where they really have no strong opinion just to shoot down my idea that is fairly benign. I get that forums are a place for public conversation but you are adding zero substance to the discourse. So, please reconsider the intention of your posts and set a trend of making an environment where ideas can be shared with only constructive conflict... not this sorta pathetic behavior.

You don't need any of this shit. You don't need to defend your request. Your request is good and valid on it's own.

Like I mentioned before, this is a request we see about every raid tier. This is something the community has found consistently annoying and I'm pretty surprised that SQEX hasn't added this simply QoL change yet.
You're 100% right. If some of these items can take weeks of grinding to get, what's the harm in having a little "oops button?"

even if it wasn't a common problem it wouldn't invalidate OPs request. i dont know why people saying "its a you problrm" is supposed to be a retort when its a problem that could happen to anyone for any reason

any system with a currency should have a refund option. vendors already have a buyback function, and the game's spiritbond mechanic already checks if an item has been used in combat already. its an easy QoL feature to implement because it can be done with already existing systems and UI elements

Use your one time item restoration if it means so much to you. I know you don't like hearing this, but it really was your own carelessness that did it, and I'd really rather have dev resources go into other things rather than fixing players mistakes that translate into a week's worth of tomes.

tbf could have a refund system
could also tie it in with spirit bond so system is not abused
i dont really see a issue but only for gear not materials,orch scrolls etc etc

It always surprises me when players are against a QoL change like this, one that wouldn't have any downsides to it at all.

People like to praise this community for it’s friendliness, but then I come into the forums and see posts like the ones who replied to you. It just goes to show you no matter what game you play people will always act like this, it’s disheartening to say the least.

I don't get this community sometimes. Other games have a refund window, where you can sell accidental purchases to return your currency. It works fine. It's a simple QoL feature that could quite possibly be added and like many other QoL features, we argue against having it?

FF14 is the only community I've seen that fights against QoL. It's strange.

While I don't have any issue with a short period (meaning 5-10 minutes) for refunds if the gear hasn't been used, there are some potential problems depending on how the refund system was designed.

We get a lot of tomestone gear back from quick ventures. How will the game be able to tell what was purchased and what was obtained through a quick venture? Certainly we shouldn't be allowed the refund if it's something we didn't buy.

Leaving a zone erases the record of what we sold to a merchant so we are no longer able to buyback those items. Would it also erase the purchase record so the refund can only be requested before leaving the zone? I would imagine most players probably have moved on before they realize the mistake was made.

A few people suggest not being able to get a refund if there is spiritbond on the item.

Equipping an item and entering combat doesn't always generate spiritbond. I've got several pieces of Augmented Crystarium gear across my various characters that shows 0 spiritbond because they've done no max level content other than hunt trains with that gear. Depending on how long the refund period is (assuming there would be one beyond a "no spiritbond" requirement), what's to stop someone from buying the gear, blowing through some content designed for lower ilevels with it then getting a refund?

Using an item as the source appearance for a glamour or placing it into the glamour dresser and adding the appearance to a glamour plate doesn't generate spiritbond, either. What's to stop people from buying an item just to get the appearance for a glamour then getting a refund for the item?

SE would need to have ways to stop players from exploiting the system for temporary use of items before getting a refund and I'm not certain current game code is up to the task.

As for the issue of the game asking you to confirm purchase of the item, I don't know about anyone else but we're asked to confirm things so many times that half the time I blank out the query and just hit yes out of habit. Considering how many items have very similar names (sometimes only the suffix is different), it's still very easy to make a mistake and buy the wrong item.

If SE doesn't see the need for a refund system, I would at least recommend an update to the UI to make it much clearer what is being purchased. Display the item name in larger type, show the item icon, list the abbreviations for the jobs able to equip the item in green if the player is currently using one of those jobs or in red if they aren't, then ask "Is this the item you wish to purchase?"

Only allow refunds for the newest tier tomestone things. You can't get those from retainers, and those are the ones people feel they need an oops button for.

I actually get the opposite impression.
After getting a piece people wanna equip it and put materia into it and that's generally when they find out they made a mistake.
Either way, if they leave the zone and can't get a refund that's too bad, but at least having the oops button available while at the counter would still be an improvement.

Legally blind doesn't mean unable to see at all. It means vision is severely impaired. Legally blind people are able to play the game with the help of UI changes that the game is designed to accommodate just as my father was still able to read the newspaper with the help of a magnifying glass after he became legally blind.

You don't have to be able to read all the text to be able to play. People have been playing games written in languages they don't know for years.

There is no harm being done by offering a refund period with reasonable restrictions. It does not give anyone any sort of unfair advantage over other players if done correctly.

The rules of engagement are simple.

If the item has never been spirit bonded and the player has not left the area -- item can be returned to vendor for cost of tomes.

Correct me if I'm wrong; Using an item to glamour another item spiritbonds both items, yes? So, this would prevent players from buying and selling back after glam.

If this is incorrect; simply make it to where any refund is null after closing the vendor window. Glamoring cannot happen with the window open. One gets the "Unable to execute command while occupied." if you try.

It only generates spiritbond if it's an item that can be traded to another player. I had even tested that with an Augmented Deepshadow necklace before I made my other post to make certain. Used the necklace to glamour a Crystarium necklace - no spiritbond. Placed it in my glamour dresser, saved it to a plate, removed it from the glamour dresser - no spiritbond.

I bought a Cryptlurker ring after doing Eden Monday night with FC. I've done 2 hunt trains with it since - still at 0% spiritbond.

I don't think a refund system that only works until you close the vendor window would be much use. Players rarely realize their mistake that quickly. It's after they close the vendor window so they can equip the item that they discover their error.

I still think updating the UI for purchases would be a good alternative if a refund system isn't feasible. Right now, the purchase confirmation is rather generic looking. Wouldn't the bottom be more likely to prevent mistakes? (yes, I suck at Photoshop)

Oh I’ve done this once or twice with poetics and raid gear.. just sometimes you’re in a hurry and you make a mistake. If they could do the buyback option with the same vendor that would be nice. But yeah also it is a kinda ‘you were warned suck it up’ thing as well. Wouldn’t hurt to add something though.

I don't understand why so many people are against this. Who does it hurt having this option? Even if you don't need it why are people so adamantly against a refund option?

Personally I'm not against it so much as I'm tentative to sacrifice other content or fixes towards other things so that they can repair whichever line of spaghetti code that prevented them from implementing it in the first place.

Probably said earlier but WoW added ability to refund gear inside 2 hours or after you use it in combat (or something, cant remember the other thing)

As for buying wrong stuff, this happened to me few times but thankfully not for cryptlurker gears. I bought Excharch gear from MB, had it in my inv, went to tome-vendor and saw chest (that looks good might I add) and bought the chest. Then after opening inventory I see excharch chest lmao. Good thing I could re-sell crafted chest.

Humans make mistakes. Im surprised some people get so toxic over people making mistakes in videogames.

For me it is definitely about the amount of work that would have to go into fixing a problem that rarely occurs, has no long-lasting consequences and is entirely due to individual error.

There would have to be a shop that takes refunds and there would have to be a system added that detects whether you've used the gear, given that it doesn't get the "binding" prompt that crafted gear gets. It would need to be set up so that people can't just "borrow" their tome gear from the vendor and sell it back when they're done.

There is also no existing system for refunds from any shop, even the standard ones that deal in gil - you can buy something and sell it back, but only for a fraction of the cost. Therefore it seems unlikely that they would implement such a system for tomes.

It's not "no I wouldn't want to use it if it existed" as much as "no they logically would not implement this system, even if it sounds like a good idea".

Adding NPCs is not a monumental task. Additionally, they can make a refund vendor using currently existing item turn in systems. There are already vendors that accept pieces of gear and give you items in return. Theres also NPCs that give you currency in return for turning in items. Ergo, they can add an Npc who you give tome gear to, and you recieve Tomestones in return. No new systems to develop.

Lastly why would they not "logically" implement this? in this expansion they have improved QoL of many things, from adding new vendors that sell augmented poetics gear in main cities, to completely overhauling how collectibles work. A tome refund option is not an unreasonable request nor is it impossible to implement as youre suggesting.

It's a good idea, OP! If the devs have the time and resources to develop this feature, I certainly wouldn't complain.

Pretty much this. They've done more QoL changes during Shadowbringers, perhaps too much of a focus on them, so this really isn't unrealistic.

Imagine being relatively new to the game (January), you make a mistake, google to see if there's a way to undo it, and the top search result is a four page thread consisting heavily of the kind of people you left WoW over saying how much of an idiot you must be for making said mistake.

Well, since this is back and you're still here and I never replied...

There is a new system that would need to be added for this, because, as I had said in my post, they can't just add an NPC who gives you the full tomestone value of your gear, no questions asked. That would effectively turn the entire tomestone gear system from a permanent purchase to "borrowed with a deposit" and hand it in for your refund when you're done with it.

The current systems for turning in items for currency don't care if you've worn and used the item, so they couldn't be used just as they are.
