who even gave alphinaud any authority? one day he suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started bossing everyone around and no one bats an eye? what? hes still 13 years old and your telling me a bunch of seasoned veterans and leaders listen to a 13 year old who just bosses everyone around?

plus can we stop having alphinaud monologuing right before a boss... who gave him the authority to monologue in front of vauthry about peace and justice and righteousness... like oh my god he's a villain he's not going to listen

in sum the solution is to kill off alphinaud in 6.0 i wish i could slap him or ignore him telling me what to do but apparently i have to listen to a dimwit 13 year old who spends all his time in a library. what a nerd.

Yep he and his sister are the worst part of the story. Unlikeable characters

I am the 1% who really likes Alphinaud. He's been one of very few characters with a notable, continuous character arc.

Same. He's one of the few that actually grows with the story. In the beginning, he might seems annoying, but later on, he really grows as a character, which is enjoyable.

seems to me the only person who lacks imagination is alphinaud since he cant imagine the WoL will ever deeply dislike him

At the start of the game (ie, level 1) both Alphinaud and Alisaie are 16 years of age.

Their grandfather worked with the people who later joined the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The Scions are, in part, funded by Alphinaud and his sister, continuing their grandfather's legacy.

You seem to hate the story-line as written. Perhaps this game isn't for you? Faux outrage does not become you.

So do you not read the text? Listen to his words? Like its all spelt out for you.

Because apparently if I go by what my WOL looks like she looks like she's 19 she's no better. Who said a 19 year old can go around beating people up like she doesn't know what the big deal is. I'mma get sued D:

I did not like either of them in ARR, but playing through all of the story and the side quests and especially Coil...their characters grow so much. I love them both now and they, along with precious cat boy (Graha), are always my trust group. I wish I had more chances with them and I love the storylines when it is just Alisaie and I. Plus, they are older than they look.

If FFXIV were a console game, Alphinaud would have made a fantastic main protagonist. Being a pet using healing class would be quite the changeup for SE, and something I would love to see them do. It is true that he starts out as a pompous runt, which only goes to show how much development he has received from then until now, as he is nearly a completely different character. He has retained some of his more redeemable features from early on like the strong connection he shares with his sister, and valuing the WoL for more than just their strength, and his carbuncle.

As a character whose hardships are more mental than they are physical, he is very relatable. He gets a thumbs up from me.

We follow him because he's rich and we're just in it for the money.

I never thought this is even possible, but I mostly agree with the OP on this one.

The WoL is ordered around by everyone. Its the one issue I have with the game's story. You're supposed to be the main character but are often used an errand boy/girl.

I really do like Alphie though. He is one of the characters that does show a lot of development throughout the overall story arcs. Starting off as an annoying know-it-all and later becoming a confident leader of the sorts. You really notice this in ShB with Vaulthry.

On the other hand, I personally find his sister incredibly annoying.

He definetly gets a lot more tolerable after ARR, but still... I feel like in big part, the reason that Alphinaud is so dislikable is not Alphinaud's character itself, but rather everyone around him. How am I to believe that Minfilia is useful or our leader, for example, if I haven't played 1.0 and every time that Alphinaud opens his mouth she is shocked by his ideas and asks him what to do?
If he was a fellow adventurer without these tendencies to just...lead (pretty much like he is after heavensward), he's ok.

Female characters getting away with attacking men for no reason is a dull, uninspired trope. It's a real shame we didn't get to peel her shattered remains off of the floor after she was flung through the air by a certain character at the end of Shadowbringers. It would have been a fitting end to a character that, unlike her sibling, hasn't gone through any meaningful character development or evolution. A point which she herself highlighted, in fact.

I like Alphinaud but find Alisaie shrill and a little predictable.

Oh yes, she's exactly the same as when she first appeared and literally stormed out of the plot because she couldn't stand Eorzea. Hasn't changed at all.
