Market tax is too simple

Unlike IRL taxes, you could teach market board taxes to a 5th grader without confusion. I believe this is why we were getting all of those tax dodgers clogging up limsa. The current market board tax could use updates.

The first change that would greatly help out is change the sellers tax into a listing tax. Tax the seller whenever the item(s) are listed instead whenever, if ever, it sells. This would greatly reduce market board hawks waiting to undercut by 1 Gil if they had to pay another listing tax for updating the price. Always 5% of listing price.

Change number two is to add a purchase tax. A standard fee of 2% of listing price for the buyer only. Not be confused with area tax, aka where is the retainer is. This to add to the minimum tax for buyer. Buyers visit a different world are charged an additional 3%(5% total)

Lastly an area tax change on item purchase. Tax on buyer is halved if in the same area as the retainer. Half to the tax for items unit price under 200k Gil. same as current for 200,001 to 999,999 gil. Double for 1 million to 9,999,999 Gil. And for 10 million+ triple.

So say an item is sold for 10k(listed price) but the retainer is somewhere else and the tax there is normal rate(5%)it would only be taxed for 2.5% for both seller and buyer. The buyer(same world) would pay 10,450 and the seller would get 9,750 and would have had to pay 500 Gil to list it once.
Or 10,750 for a world visit buyer.

I propose these tax brackets very low 1%, reduced 3%, normal 5%, high 7%, flooded 10%. Limsa would pretty much always see flooded tax rate due to its market board being in the same zone as aetherite making it the favorite trading area.

Well deep im on phone so i can't edit it. But a 30k retainer relocation fee to go with this.

I mean more gil sinks would not be a bad thing inherently. I personally wish they were in the form of expensive items outside of housing but merp that is me.

.....of all the things to suggest in FFXIV...I never imagined anybody asking for a more Complex Tax system on the Market Boards...

So all this is supposed to be just a counter measure for Limsa congestion?

There's already a tax for the buyer, and the location of the retainer was made redundant with Shadowbringers, tax is uniform now no matter where the retainer is stationed.

If they wanted to counter Limsa congestion, then they'd just move the Aetheryte back to the Aftcastle where it used to be.

The thing is, a meaningful sink would be taking a ton of currency for things people actually want. Look at WoW's hilariously expensive mounts; they take a ton of gold, but you get a fancy new ride for it. A tax just penalizes you for using the marketplace. It's an empty sink.

Not saying FFXIV couldn't use a gil sink, just saying this isn't a good one. (In theory, housing would be our gil sink, but since it's not readily available to much of the player base, it doesn't really work.)

Huh, I didn't know that. Would put it in line with the other cities for the relative placement of the inn and markets. When did they change it, and did they say why? And what was in the aetheryte plaza?

When they redid the cities for 2.0

In 1.0 all the starting cities were one single zone and the Limsa Aetheryte was in the large square by the Aftcastle.

I guess they moved the aetheryte because all of the combat guilds are on the lower decks, but it does make Limsa the only town where the Aetheryte is in a different part of town from both the adventurer's guild and the grand company. It's a bit annoying in that regard.

Yes and no on it being annoying. It's much better for marketboard access.

Definitely odd that it's placed in the opposite half of the map to the other cities, and doubly so if it used to be where it makes sense from a consistency approach. Mostly the utilities are divided up the same way.

(From a realistic city layout though, it does feel more central in its current location.)

Also not all the combat guilds are on the lower decks - the Marauders' Guild is on top.

Mauarader's guild use to be on the ship where the dance jig emote quest takes place.
