Cannot finish ARR MSQs due to raids

I'm sure this is a hot topic (and if not, I'm flabbergasted as to why it wouldn't be), but having to finish three old 24 man raids as part of the way to access new content is awful.

I am incredibly disappointed as I was highly enjoying the game but this is just absurd.

The equivalent would be having to do Classic raids to reach Burning Crusade content and then have to do BC raids to reach Lich King content all the while you're way over-leveled and outgeared.

It's just mind boggling. I enjoy the story but not enough to slog through old raids just to get to new content. Sitting in queue for 25 minutes as a tank and still not filling. It's miserable.

Please allow a story skip for this. I want to continue to play but this feels like a major obstacle.

Part of the reason is due to further msq in a later expansion actually ties into those raids. Also oh no a 25min wait for a tank. Seriously that is nothing compared to what most dps have to wait for almost anything. The only complaints people have about those raids which btw have an easier time unlocking now then when they came out is people purposely lowering their ilv to get only those raids or only ever unlocking those raids. It's the only time this happens unless at a later time you want to get you a relic weapon for the current expansion.

You're having trouble doing the 24 man ARR raids of LOTA, Sycrus Tower and World of Darkness? Those should be pretty easy to queue for and complete. The other raids are pretty much optional unless you want to do relic and then you would need the 3 70 level raids.

Considering how absurdly easy the ARR raids are, and what a pain in the ass the Classic raids can be, this is an incredibly unfair comparison.

If long tank queues are the problem, it's because raids only have 3 tank spots and 15 DPS spots. If you've purchased Stormblood, you can go to Ul'dah, pick up samurai or red mage (both start at level 50 and give you a decent set of beginner gear), and burn through it. You never have to use them again if you don't want to.

The wait time for tank is going to be skewed compared to other content because the party makeup is different: the balance of tank/healer/DPS is 1/2/5 for alliance raids vs 2/2/4 for everything else, so tanks are in lower demand and there is less of a buildup of DPS. On my data centre at least, I regularly see DPS listed as in need for alliances.

Additionally, from my own observations, I think that the "adventurer in need" bonus can lead to an overstock of tanks in lower-level content because if it's trying to find a tank for Lv70 or 80 content but people keep queuing as tanks that are ineligible for that content, they instead pile up in the queue. And all the while, tank is still listed as in need. I could definitely see that leading to a long wait time for tanks while actually you'd get in quicker as another role, maybe even DPS.

No, This game has a very different view on Raids from classic/vanilla WoW. Most Raids in this game are just dungeons with more people. They put these raid at the end of ARR, which is appropriate. You just "slogged" through old content to get there. If you don't like the content, you probably won't be too thrilled with the rest of the game. It is often quicker to do these raids on DPS or Healer.

FFXIV raids != WoW raids.
Hell the 24-man raids are barely raids, just large-scale dungeons with less trash pulls.

You're queueing as a tank. Out of 24-bodies, tanks make up 3, healers 6, and DPS 15. You're just going to have to wait longer to get in.

They matter to later MSQ events massively, so making them mandatory makes sense for the impact the ARR 24-man series has on the over arching plot.

As was pointed out to me, and as I found is true... They are not raids, they are alliances. There are almost no mechanics left, they are just large number of players doing a fairly simple dungeon now. I went through the three with only one death/rez. Zero wipes.

As those three alliances are pretty much at the end of ARR... https://store.finalfantasyxiv.com/ff...gb/product/574 is the skip. You will sadly miss out on the final fight into Ishgard and a bunch of important cutscenes.

I think you would be better served to grab one of the DPS classes unlocked at 50 and let yourself be carried through the alliance, then change back to tank after.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but how exactly are they "old raids" if you're only just up to them in the MSQ? When I did them I realized that for up to date players, this was old stuff, but it wasn't old to me, because it was my first time doing them. Are there ways of unlocking the crystal tower raids without doing them for the MSQ first? I just don't see the issue as you have to slog through a LOT of dungeons for the MSQ that are now "old" content for most players (but still "new" to you if you haven't done them before) this is just another set of them, only with 24 people.

way back when there was a more tedious method to unlock them.
SE wanted the crystal tower to be done by everyone, so they eased up on those requirements. then they made the tower mandatory for 5.3's MSQ.

The only "more tedious" thing about the unlock, unless there was some older and worse method that I never experienced, is that you had to do specific FATEs rather than fixed battles when you travelled to the beast tribe strongholds to collect crystals. That potentially added a lot of tedious waiting time in the middle of the quest, but didn't make any difference to when or how you could do the quest chain overall.

You can buy a story skip potion off the mogstation if you don't want to do them.

Since you mentioned WoW - you know the LFR difficulty in WoW? (Or at least what it was up until Warlords of Draenor, when I quit for good - no idea if it's changed since.)

The 24-mans are likethat, but easier. And the level 50 24-mans are *significantly easier* than those. Other than taking maybe a combined 2-3 hours of your life (including queue time and cutscenes), they present absolutely no obstacle.

I'm pretty certain this is just the newest bait thread and sockpuppet from the forum's "favorite" poster.

Sycrus Tower becomes required content for current 5.3 MSQ content.

honestly the CT raids are no different than a regular dungeon at this point in the lifespan of the game. Its just 24 people steam rolling the CT essentially
AS for the requirement I mean a good chunk of the ct story ties into shadow bringers and honestly the CT story isn't too bad.

Did you personally validate this, or are you assuming? I had to do the Raids at level 80, since I hadn't bothered with them back at level 50.

Might be that a level 70 story skip still requires the Crystal Tower raids once you hit 80. Anyone else go that route?

i just bought one for a raiding alt and it marked the full CT quest chain as complete (with "I Hardly NOAH" available to unlock the repeatable quest to get Allagan Catalysts) and lets you go straight into ShB. It does not do that for any other alliance raid (i had to complete Ivalice raids myself to be ready for doing relic on that alt because there's a decent chance the completed relic weapon will be BiS over the raid weapon)

admittedly, this was a Tales of Adventure: Stormblood (the skip all the way to 70), but with CT being a requirement to enter HW now, it should work similarly for the other 2. If you had used the skip prior to the patch that change was made in (5.3), it did not complete those

It's actually required to finish 2.5 now. The MSQ won't let you progress into the final quests after the Steps of Faith if you haven't finished the Crystal Tower quests. There's even a short cutscene added when the Scions move to Mor Dhona in the first place to direct you towards it, although it doesn't make it mandatory until later.

Technically both. People who stopped playing after passing 2.55 and return to the game will still experience the story block at 5.3 if they have not completed CT, while all the new players coming in will have that block at 2.55 like you said.

If you are already 50+ and completed the first bit of the MSQ can't you unlock RDM or SAM so you can temporarily go DPS for the alliance raids? They start at 50 and I think you only need to pick up some accessories cause SE doesn't set you up with some for whatever reason.

You mean the ARR dungeon set that takes less time than Praetorium?

For the entire tier?
