Personally I fell Archers are pretty good right now but any improvements are very welcome.

Well, I like my job so far..putting aside skills that DOESN'T work(points to Farshot). Improvements are always welcome! Looking forward to see actions range in the GUI, and changes to skill animations :).

Yeah changes in the animations would be cool. I want bigger and more shiny animations :D
I could imagine once they balanced everything, that we're getting new weapon types and change to a sub-class of an archer. But we'll see how SE will impelent that uniqueness stuff.
Archer is actually the quest I'm least worried about seeing change, to be honest. It has pretty good animations, but I would like to have indicators on where my AOE effects are going, and making it a bit more engaging than just nocking arrows, using buffs, and then attacking.
Classes in general need to have some crowd control abilities and it would be great if buffs/debuffs became more important across all classes, I think. It would be fun to set different kinds of traps.
The direction they take with the class in general should focus on good spacing! Well I believe every class should be about good spacing, but Archer especially!
Right now we do pretty good damage, get little TP per hit (slow TP buildupt), burn through a lot of stamina. the abilities that we do have for crowd control, such as heavy shot and shadowbind are not really effective, since the bind effect last for an extremely short amount of time, but I'm pretty sure making bind stronger would make this class and other range classes too powerful.
No traps, I dun wanna play WoW :(

Hiya, leveling arc also. cureently 44. It is a fun class and requires alot of thoughts. As in easy to pull out amazing dmg, but surviving monster's wraths after is the issue. Burst dmg vs Steady consistent dmg.
I have seen NM parties wipe, due to arcs, not managing their dmgs and then stealing hate from tanks. baad baad baaad archers.
I love archer so much :o, I cannot wait to see futur skills and i am specially excited to see the new bows!
I am leveling Archer and it is my favourite class, as said before animations improvements would be great to see (Quick draw looks awesome where as barrage is a simple one shot) additional crowd control would be good . our damage is nice but maybe like most other I would like to see MORE! :D... I miss my Sidewinder :P lol.
I think what would be a good addition to our class uniqueness and general improvement is more Ammo for our Arsenal. introduction of poison, blind and paralyzing arrows as well as Bows with unique status effects or ones that make us choose between higher attack less accuracy or Higher Accuracy less attack but still within same ranking to use. Since an Archers greatest Ally is the distance we keep between us and the monster it would be great if we can use the terrain to our advantage. like standing on a hill or ledge and raining down hell upon our doomed enemies. while there are a few spots that allow us to do this I find *you are out of range* message pops up too much for an archer lol.
I also very much agree that i do not want to see traps in this game. the engaging and combat system is tough enough that i can't be worried to run and lay a trap that a monster may or may not run into. and with all the roaming monsters in the area Bad linking and party wipes is all that can result from traps, that I can see
True, a little highlighted area on the ground could be added to show where you're going to hit - and thus what you will hit. They can even implement that for other classes that have AoE/cone attacks.
Arrows......well, they were not exactly cheap in FFXI either, and because there's a high demand for them (we fire a lot of arrows even if you play conservatively, and they are not recyclable in a grand way - yes, I know Scavenge exists, but it doesn't significantly lower your costs), the supply will continue to have high prices. As more and more Carpenters rank up, I'm sure the prices will drop a little and stabilise, but I fully expect arrows (and most likely bullets too in the future when they release gun classes) to still be relatively expensive. Saying that, if cost is an issue, go back to Warped Arrows. They may not be "optimal damage", but they are cheap.
I love archer! I wasn't a big fan of Ranger in FFXI so I didn't try it until recently, and since then I've gone into surplus at least 4 times and have gotten it almost to 30! I can't wait to see what else they do with this job! :D
As for arrows, I guess I'm lucky.... being an Alchemist and Botanist as well, I help gather the branches and make wing glue for the carpenters etc and I pretty much get free arrows. XD
I can't wait to get this job to 50!
I love archer as well, nearly 40 now. The only thing I personally wish for is different WS animations. Currently, some are quite nice. But others are simply boring. This isnt just for Archer WS however. All jobs need new animations.
I like Archer right now but I would like them to bring back some FFXI Ranger abilities/weaponskills. I understand it is a different game but I really want an improved version of widescan and would love some visually awesome weaponskills like sidewinder. The game lacks the power moves that look like you are just crushing the enemy, minus Simian Thrash maybe one or two other abilities that are noteworthy. I would also really love to see 2 hour abilities make a come back, Eagle Eye Shot would be a great asset to my repertoire or some other new type of ability that really brings out the individuality of the classes.
Like I said I am happy with my class but those elements would really make this class and all the classes for that matter stand out a lot more. What do some of you think about what I said?
Hey All I am a Rank 50 Archer And I feel over all the job is great there is a few thing's I think would make it better / fun A little Less spread of weapon skill's due to when your 50 you still really only use the same ones the whole time.
Also I think the arrow's are border line useless use warped unless fighting NM's or Leves runs or your wasting gil.
Chameleon is great for NM's for hate dump when your putting out so much dps.
The Bow's are nice but they look all the same sept the last like 3 or 4 so that could be fixed
PUG and Arch Have like the same gear which i think is really dumb so that could be fixed
Try not to waste time on the NM Faction gear people +1 STR isnt worth the millions. always the harriers
Wide scan like said above would be so great miss that skill
and the STAM system is really something to be fixed i know on NM's youll try and putt out mad skills but STAM bar will block you most of the time from being speedy and deadly like a archer is.
A dagger or atleast a sub weapon i think is needed for all classes but one weapon makes it really limited in the depth you could be in the whole " Archer " feel not to be WoWish but i think skinning was a good idea could always work well with Tanners etc.

but over all its a great job good DPS as it should be it was so GIMPED in FFXI so its about time we get our chance o show archers skills
Bind seems completely and utterly useless. It holds enemies for something like 1 or 2 seconds -- not really enough to make a difference at all.
More variety in bows and make the variety matters. Currently all the bows just act the same with slight variance in ATK/ACC/Crit Rate, a Long Bow has the same range/stamina cost as a Short Bow which is a shame.
About to hit the Rank 50 Archer and agree wholeheartedly with the recent post so far. Hate to reiterate, but new weapon skills would be nice with new animations. WTH is up with farshot? With the patch of 1.16 I think, they reduced the range of the archer. Arrow Helix can be scrapped because of its uselessness. Hopefully with the following updates, us archers can get rank 50 gear from NMs and none of that 'Robin Hood' look either. And on top of my list, I would love that fire arrow move in the opening movie to be added to my arsenal. SE, don't be so cruel and give us what we want.
But but.. I like the Robin Hood look! ;; That Fire Arrow stuff could be implemented as a Battle Regime maybe. Puncture -> Fire III or something like that :) or maybe Flare >_>; since the whole morbol was on fire haha
This kind of combination would be cool, the "enhanced" fire arrows in FFXI were boring ;o But we'll see what SE holds up for us
I want to know when are they gonna add the arrows acc,att etc.. to combine with my bow !!! We may do decent dmg but imo the attack stats on our bows is really slacking compared to other classes. I mean why bother putted acc and att, crit rate on arrows if it's not added to our overall stats? I am a rnk 50 arc with str 166+ and no way should a glad be coming close or even out damaging me.
lol as a Miqo'te I was Sexy Revealing Archer armor some that look bad ass But makes people go DAAAAMMMMMNNNN!!! you hot. I want to be an archer Miqo'te for that gear.. like the RSE gear in FFXI not bikini armor lol but something cool
Yes! For the love of all things sane, we need a rank 50 bow! I really don't feel like buying a couple crab bows +1/+2 and my luck if I did the next patch would come out and have new bow recipes.
I wouldn't mind an ability to temporarily disable enemy ranged attacks. Bind and slow are great and all, but when the thing can still hit me from all the way over there....

Personally, as an Archer I would love a furry side kick that makes jokes and who I can also use as a projectile weapon.
On a serious note. I hope no one touches the burst damage. I like me some burst damage, especially seeing those big numbers and being able to take massive chunks of hp out of monsters in 1 to 2 hits which just makes you feel like you are GOD. However I think the worst thing that would make me sad is making distance relevant. For those like me with depth perception challenges that would making things a bit painful.

Can I get some heroic music to go with my sidekick? No ranging Archer with a sidekick can't be complete without heroic music to accompany his sidekick.
On another note, I love Archer. I loved Ranger in XI and this was the only class that took off for me when I played beta. Easily one of the funnest classes to play in my opinion. Easy binding is also really convenient, and I love the damage output. I was hoping Archers would get the option to use guns too, but I'm fine with the bow and arrow. Can't deny the stylish crab bow on my back as I foot it around Ul Dah.
That said, I'd really like an R50 bow, one that looks downright awesome.
I'd like to see better gear other than Robin Hood outfits, the animations aren't that great for all weapon skills, useless skills such as Shadow Bind II which only last 2 seconds and far shot which you still have to enter aggro area in order to use it which renders it useless, why do we need Subtle Release when we have quelling strike II and Chameleon, kinda sad that we don't get a rank 50 weapon skill, Better Looking Bows, I love playing Archer and i'd like to see great things for this class I miss status effect arrows.
Arc is pretty sweet as it is, (I do miss having a melee weapon like rng, but I can live without it) but I think it could use a few basic tweaks:
First, why do I keep drawing my weapon everytime I use Quickstride? I wind up wasting about 5 seconds putting my weapon away when I want to run at top speed, and isn't that the point of having this skill? Also, I would give Shrieker an AoE terror effect, at the cost of doing little to no damage, we get so many weaponskills that have an AoE effect, but we stand little chance of surviving unsupported against large groups of enemies, which is a bit of a problem for a DD/Crowd Control class. In addition, the terror effect would only affect enemies that have already attacked the party.
Hopefully when SE makes those changes to the class/battle system they'll put in some new animations for weaponskills. I remember back in XI how much fun I used to have doing/watching the 200+ skills. 230 staff Retribution was always one of my favorites. I'm 46 Archer at the moment and I have to say, I get a little bored and sleepy watching my character do the same few actions :\

All they need to do if up the WS animations by 1 tier. Those of you who have it should notice the huge difference between Wide Volley and Wide Volley II. They should just swap out Wide Volley and give it the Wide Volley 2 animation, then give Wide Volley II a Wide Volley III animation (assuming they would make a new one). I'm hoping for new equipment that looks better than the Robin Hood style ones I hate them to be honest. I hope enfeebling arrows come sometime soon, it would add a much more fun side to Archer. Also in dealing with quickstride I hope they just make all job abilities that require no stamina to use no require a weapon to be drawn and then make quickstride not use any anima. New bows will come eventually! Especially when they start raising rank cap and/or releasing new NM's but there is still a ways to go!
Yeah most of the weapon skills Archers have are pretty lackluster. Flashiest skill in game is probably Simian Thrash from pug too bad it blows in most cases.
As for the guy saying Shadow Bind II only lasting two seconds, are you hitting the mob right after you bind it? Bind debuff wears off as soon as the target is hit.
Archer is a sweet job and i'm really enjoying it, great damage output and lots of fun!! Like others have said wish the animations where better but same goes for my LNC they need fixing.

I'm a Noob to FFXIV.. Never played XI.
Though I'm some what of a veteran of many previous MMO's.
One thing that I've always done though is play a Ranged DPS, or Ranged Burst DMG class.
Given Musketeer is in the game, though not as a playable class yet, being quite believably Ranged Burst DMG.
I know what I'm going to experiment with when it's available. (but that's another topic of discussion altogether)
So with bow in hand and quiver full of arrows I'd like to share my brief perception of the class.
Stamina: By The Twelve!! We burn through the stuff like no tomorrow..
Who'd have thought that being an archer consumed Stam faster than a Glad's Heavy Sword?
So, I'd like to see introduced a self buff for Archer/Ranger that reduces Stam consumption (Or increases the rate it regens)
Arrows: Really now? Warped are 2gil each, Bronze are 11gil, and you'd only dare bust out the 'Good' ones for NM's
Even at my level if I'm not careful I can steal agro/hate of the tanks if I equip anything better then Bronze while on Behests/Leve's. Hate to think how bad it gets later on.
Good thing I'm stingy, and buy the cheapest nastiest ones I can find if I have to restock on Consumable items all the time.
Though I can see that once more people rank up trade skills and the market becomes more competitive, Arrow prices will drop.
(A whole 'nother rant about the current game economy becoming overinflated due to lack of Money Sink for LvL Cap players to waste coin on needs not be repeated here)
Just wanted to add something else, since they announced Auto-attack recently, I'm hoping that Archer will be either exempt from it, or if it is given auto attack, it can be turned off. You can't bind a target if you're continously attacking, it'll always break the bind, and it means you have no window to buff up or heal. You also can't stack skills like multishot or Raging Strike, as they will be used and wiped the moment the computer attacks. Right now, the job has a great deal of tactical flexibility, but despite what the people who petitioned for AA say, I still believe that arc will lose that flexibilty when the battle engine is updated.
I agree with the person who said more CC (crowd control) abilities. Maybe some AOE (wide volley) with Shadowbind (that works) or something or a REAL working Shadowbind is good enough for now.
I do like the idea of having elemental arrows but I think it would be cooler to fuse magic (like the animation) to our arrows. I also agree that immobilizing a mob should stop them from throwing or kicking stuff at us, even mobs that don't have range attacks are still hitting.
Quickstride needs to work in passive mode.... and... and... can I smack the mob with my BOW to stun them?!?!?! A great way to run away if needed, lol.
