Suggestion: Bozja Field notes for other content

As someone that really likes to read about the lore and the history of the world and its characters I loved the addition of the field notes in Bozja. Having such detailed informations on friends and foe alike was great, especially since you could read it everywhere.

I would really love to have such notes for future and even old content too. Maybe one for the dungeon/place itself, then at least one for each boss. Depending on the NPCs that you meet through this, they also could be there.

This could be a nice extra way to farm the content and I would really try to get (and read) them all.

So any thoughts about that? Would you love something like this? What would you add or do different?

I really liked them and hope they add them as drops in the future for dungeons, trials and maybe even FATEs.

Having played Hades (Supergiant game) recently, collecting info has been a fun experience on top of all the other good fun to have.

I could see this being gamified a bit, in context of FF.. naturally it would be something akin to a bestiary :P. Field Notes of course gets around the obligation of adding 'everything' though. So probably better to stick around that name scheme lol.

Still, back onto the concept, it could be a fun side content to get to run around and do - as well might find some nice partnership with the archelogy idea that's been tossed around (with my personal twist of desire on that being a museum / library content being added to Amaurot (one of the npcs looking to carry their previous duty forward, perhaps with some augmented beast tribe concepts for growth and extra interactivity), and the archology being related to chocobo hot and cold like content). All together you'd go around completing all sorts of content and then cataloging it in a orderly system, and some of that cataloging resulting in functional or at least visual evolution to content (like your museum getting larger, new rewards unlocked, etc).

Of course it could be far more straight forward, but if you made it into a Museum like content it could really spread and also add extra justification to collecting them (rewards / content progression).

I am having a feeling that Bozja/Castrum is SE's trial experiment for a 48 men raid content, well, at least I hope it is

I would love something like this, yes yes.

I've been thinking about an Archaeologist Job that would gather lore from going into older dungeons (not focused in combat, something we will be doing with Gpose soon) but I'll settle for more notes!

Very much want this idea added to other content, I'm still missing 2 (no12 and no14) and it adds so much more to the characters.

Love it so very much Kudos to whichever developer thought up that idea I'd give a basket of cookies if they weren't going to go stale by time they reach you XD

Would love this as a reason to go back and do old content to collect lore.on different monsters, NPCs, etc.

As long as the drop rate isn't as bad as Dyunbu's...

I think you mean Dabog's...Dyunbu's got multiple FATEs to get it from, Dabog really only has the one in the northern section of the map and his duel (and you're probably not getting into that duel). And that FATE dies really quickly so you're unlikely to get Gold credit unless you're one of the first ones there. D:

Yes a museum also sounds like a nice idea. Of course this takes away the part where you could read the infomation no matter where you are but honestly any kind of place would be nice where we could then read up on that stuff. And it would give old content some activety again without having to change anything with the fights.

You could also say that maybe the drop rate is low if you unsnych it while it would increase quite a bit if you synch it. This would serve both sides. Those that help out others by running it synch can have it a bit faster and those that want to just unsynch it can still do that.

Yes of course I would want the drop rate to be fine (maybe still not something you get with only one run, maybe one drop is guaranteed in dungeons at least?) since there would be a huge amount of stuff to collect if they would put it in every old content. Maybe they could even put in some safety net. Like you could get duplicates but those can be exchanged for some tokens (that please dont go into the inventory..) and if you have enough of those you can buy one of the notes that you dont have.

Oh I was thinking you could access the codex at any time but there would be a physical relationship to that as an actual in game content, the explorers guild if you will - the game encouraging you to go out and learn stuff about it with a functional reward on top of a phycological one that is multiple layers deep (filling out your codex, filling up and upgrading the museum). I also like the relationship there in 'remember us ' and then building and maintaining the energy (part of the quest content) of a specific area to act as a vault of memories.

Not sure if you played Hades recently but the codex is much like you might find in some bioware games and other rpgs with them, but the codex does have a little game side to it as well and progression - so I picked that one out particularly since say bioware is more like a 'touch it then you know all about it' experience lol.

With archelogy you could get the lore that doesn't make sense to pick up straight from interacting with more obvious things, so you could learn a lot about ancient things with logical sense (of course some of it could be more recent). The visual part of the museum could be filling up the library section (the more codex you have the more books show up), while the museum would also have physical statues and finds (like if you found the bust of some important person, bigger projects could include things like full room statues and such). Also to keep in mind due to the special nature of using the Amaurot you can do some cool things like reforming the museum or other radical changes that would normally not make physical sense, also might use tokens you earned to create completed objects from the pieces of objects you found and just replicas in general, for your museum and or your housing area, or even gear- like remaking the armor of some famous knight from the past).

On bit of a tangent that replica concept is sort of the birth idea I had for a glamour system and token system that would work for the whole game, a crystal library and forge where you could collect the essence of gear and once you complete that section of the library you have the whole glamour set (so like each gear from a content could be turned into essence, using HQ system for the rare pieces, and after X hq and Y nq you unlock that whole dungeon for visual glamour, and then you can use future essence to trade in for the piece of gear you actually wanted - the system was thought of to avoid a lot of memory so like 1 variable flipped to on means you get 20 visual unlocks which is more efficient over many content pieces). Original concept was for it to relate to our mother crystal (with a bit of Chrono Trigger 'End of Time' vibes), but honestly it would fit just as well in Amaurot lol.

@Shougun: I really love the idea with the museum and the archelogy. Sadly I fear that having so many notes would probably be impossible (or too much work for SE) but I would absolutely have a blast with it. I played Rift for a short time and I loved that you could just find lore in the outside world that you can pick up.

And no I did not play Hades (but have heard that its quite great) because sadly there are way to many good games out there that want to be played...I guess the first world problems of gaming.

About the glamour: I have to use Rift as the example again. As soon as you picked up gear it was put into the catalogue. After that you could have either used it to increase your stats or just throw it away because you will always have a version of it now to glamour (which ignored job restrictions if I remember it correctly). Something like that would be awesome here too and gives a huge lot of stuff to collect too. Just like notes for all dungeons would do.

I feel like I've seen multiple Dabog FATEs. While Dyunbu does have three, though, I've done each about eight times each and have yet to see her notes drop once. Same with Sartauvoir.

I think if they don't have plans for another lorebook, more in-game ways to peer into lore of NPCs and locales would be a fine substitute and the field records are a good step in that direction.

I'd also like to see it expanded beyond Bozja. There's a lot of minor and major NPC's/bosses alike who would shine with a bit more context behind them.

Heck I would say even with a new lorebook. I mean the books are nice and high quality but its really sad that you cant get this amount of deep lore in the game itself. The lorebooks could be for those that want to have it at hand in real life while everyone still can gather most of it ingame. This would also solve the problem that if someone has no lore book they are always at some kind of disadvantage and has to believe what others claim to be in the books.

I liked a lot collecting boxes with notes when they included collection in Nier raids, and really like the idea of in-game lore in form of notes they did in Bozja. Would be really cool to see more things like this.

You are right and its nice but compare the text for NPCs with the one from the field notes and its nothing like that. Some of the monster do have nice text but a lot of the NPCs are just quotes.

Yeah it's certainly an idea that could have insane scope lol, but that's where you'd just have to decide on an internal goal and stick to that ('okay we're going to make 20 notes for this patch'). One of the things to consider as well as this content could cannibalize the sight seeing log.. it's the site seeing log now ;). In this way they can keep the content concept but expand it into a new system that also add some more gameplay concepts onto it and further expands the reward (both psychological and literally, since it'd be expanded lore of the game, ticking boxes, developing an area, and naturally actual rewards). So you might be able to get away with a bit more depending on what you do. Since, I think at least, Archelogy would be a pretty friendly concept it would be acceptable to do that (not taking away the log from everyone to give it to a few players only), friendly in the sense it's not something you have to be crazy hardcore in gear and such (and like I suggested I personally think binding it to chocobos would be neat with a decently in-depth yet very replayable and fast paced digging system). Also if done through chocobos it technically doesn't have to be a job, which means the exp for any site 'seeing' boost could still go to your job rather than Archelogy specific job (and in general exp for digging could help your chocobo, which of course I'd like to see expand in a general use case), which could save the resources spent on job like obligations (things made just to justify the job's existence in the game space) and rather spend for things like rewards or greater depth systems (but it certainly could be a job, might be a decent candidate for a limited job, one which doesn't fit combat and wouldn't be a stereotypical gathering/crafting job). In this way you might see the concept as a collection of systems working together, akin to a relic (but more casual lol), at the top sits the codex and museum, below it is the archelogy aspect and in general interactions with the world (like when you read notes and books in the game or first get that cool splash image of entering an area or complete certain tasks).

Again of course haha.... you could make the system huge so someone is going to have to keep it a bit grounded XD, but the potential is pretty decent. If people love it that would be good news cause you could expand it 18 different ways.

Hades is pretty fun, you'll probably have a good idea if you like it or not from a quick gameplay trailer, can be a bit hectic and that may not be great for some people. Diablo 3 used to be one of my main references to blue mage I wished to see (if it has to be limited), but I like using Hades a bit sometimes now too, just that general sense of fun when you build things together and it just blows your mind and makes you feel clever and or lucky lol (but each unit by themselves was also not useless either, and the diversity of options is also pretty high).

For the glamour I might have misrepresented the reason why I made that suggestion on accident, it wasn't that I thought that was the pinnacle of glamour systems but I thought of it because it would be a very friendly memory glamour system. Like right now we have 400 slots, that's 400 items (obviously lol). SE talks about adding slots as if it's a huge strain (and I'm sure it is, not saying it like I don't believe them). So picture you have those 400 slots... but each slot is a flag that says you own the glamour of the area it belongs to. Suddenly 400 slots actually means you've stored like 8,000 items (assuming 20 item average per node). Stacking some content may even allow a higher efficiency (like if you associate normal and hard modes of content, need to finish the normal to get the hard mode glamours, which would then mean the variable to store two areas is only one variable (0= no, 1 = normal, 2= both, now it's like 35 items per variable, your GC rank gear would be an easy example of this working well, 5 = grandmaster gear and below, etc, etc)). Also because of how it functions it keeps a decent market value (turns the item into essence and then is consumed by the crystal library to imprint the image, making what sells a bit more valuable) and add a worst case scenario drop rate (say if you really wanted the mage chest from a dungeon but never got it, so you run it and turn all the gear into essence of that area and turn it in to unlock the glamour of the area, then you take a few more essence (not a perfect conversion rate) and get exactly the armor you wanted). This worst case drop rate also applies not to just stats of the item but the glamour, say you really wanted it just for glamour, then you're still in luck (complete the library, you get the image even if that specific item didn't drop), so in general the drop of items is a bit more useful as a whole, and you could even go as the wrong job and get the item you wanted by converting it (say you go do a content as tank and then use the aether forge to turn the two tank items into the DD chest piece you had been looking for). This means if you had normally only wanted one item from a content you might consider doing it a few more times anyways and each time is 'worth it' because each time adds to your progression.

So it was a little bit mean in that you had to collect more at once but then also came back with some generosity because of it (and was memory friendly..er.. to hopefully make it more possible to implement than our current difficulty with 400 sole items we currently have).

Of course a glamour system that automatically unlocks the image of the item once you obtain it would be nice :P, that system wasn't meant to be the most advanced but like coming up with a reasonably powerful system that works within the confines of 'memory is really hard to come by'.

Now you have done it, with all the Hades talk I have put it on my Steam wishlist. ;) Will check it out sometimes in the future.

Well I guess since this is only about suggestions and not something that has to 100% be implemented that way ingame, it can be as huge as it wants to be. I normally dont like limited jobs but the one you described sounds nice. Also with the coming update that we can "run" dungeons without any enemies it would be a perfect way to implement that. You have to run it first on your battle job and then you can go trought it with the limited one and "dig" for information.

Of course simple drop rates when you battle your way through this would also be quite fine or maybe a system where you get more and more information for each defeat of the boss and in the end you will have your notes for it. Of course that would not be possible for one time bosses but there it could be a simple drop.

It would also be a great way if they could update the profiles of certain NPCs. It would give players a way to read up on how far an NPC has come. Alphinaud from ARR is such a different person than to the current one and it could be reflected by having his note be updated with each expansion.

Maybe for newer content. I liked it, what i liked most about it is that duplicates werent a waste. You can turn them in for lockboxes. I could see this working with FATEs in the future, if they wanted to implement them, similar to collecting the gemstones in the new zones, as long as they werent taking up wasted space in my inventory after use

FFXII had an amazing bestiary and XIV could really benefit from such too.

It would be nice to see something like this in addition to the walkabout mode we're getting for dungeons. Sort of like how it's done with the Nier raids.

I really hope that the Nier raid and now bozja was a test run to see if we might like it. Because there is so much lore hidden in each single dungeon and the notes are such a great way to enchance the experience.

So now that I do play Hades (and its awesome) I would really love to have something similar in this game. Of course it cant be done the exact same way but learning more and more about stuff the more you interact with could be a great way to introduce it in dungeons. Either you have to run it x amount of time (so the notes are connected with a achievement) or you have to just gather all the hidden pages in each dungeon and if you have it all you can get the text.

That would be awesome too. Also still missing some and with RNG just being RNG I have no clue if I will ever get them. So having some ways to get those would be nice.

And of course if those are in other content it should not be that hard to get them, since it would be a huge amount of them to collect. I dont want them to be the drop rate of some TT cards...that is imo not fun.

They could quite easily turn things like the Datalogs in The Twinning, and the books in Great Gubal, into things like this.
Not sure it's something they'd bother to do for old content, but for future dungeons, it's a good alternative to those interaction points in dungeons that you never get a chance to actually stop and read.
