I kind of hope the reason why it is taking so long is because they're considering whether to make the new forms be actual content or just be an image. I mean that I wish we'd get more content than just some images, I feel a little sad if they were like 'yeah whatever Shiva, Ifrit, Garuda, they're all the same so like sure there is no difference' lol. Not that I'm entirely against the glamour concept, although I'd promote more for the Zodiac Espers having counter parts to ours, or the other advance summons, so like Ifrit could be Belias, or in example of our Titan he could also be represented by Sephirot. (Trying to keep a vague theme together, rather than Titan = Shiva = Belias = Odin = Alex = Nothing Matters).
Hoping that they add many new functional pieces of primal content, spend all their resources onto that. Big bucks on new demi, egi, egi+, demiurge, tempus, whatever big cool thing. If they were either going to add egi glamour or not, and they definitely were not going to add a bunch of neat content then of course I'd prefer toys over no toys lol, but kind of hope for 'toys with context'.
With their current vision I don't really care if they do or do not remake of SMN (I think it's fun as is and has nice vibes with the two demi, and I can see the current format evolving/smoothing more primal and gameplay stuff so that's also cool), but I wouldn't argue if someone or SE was going to (so long as it's to add more primal content). Pretty open to whatever people want so long as it doesn't mean removing primal concepts lol.
A further detail example on what new egi might look like would be something like adding Levithan, Shiva, and Ramuh egi, and then adding a second tier to every egi. Such that the 6 egi become demi-lite via some sort of new mechanic and or passive that you obtain after certain level. (Demi-lite taking away the egi's chibi appearance but still being reasonably sized). A new system would be provided that would encourage egi rotation while also maintaining the niche of each egi. For example after a certain completion of your rotation you'd gain a buff that would consume when switching to a new egi, this buff would be timed but instantly removed if you switched back to your previous egi. Meaning you can choose to ignore it if you needed that niche dearly (like titan's shield) but you'd get a big encouragement to cycle your egi and choose between best of two rather than best of one.
Titan - tank
Garuda - AoE
Ifrit - Single Target
Shiva - Balance + Offensive Support (CC)
Ramuh - Recovery / silence (like if you flubbed or if the boss wasn't present on the battle field due to a lull) + Burst
Levithan - Balance + Defensive Support
Hopefully with some extra character built into each one too, even better if each primal out infects your kit slightly, like Titan would gain his hp bar back and auto-cover the SMN and certain damage you do helps restore his hp (like GNB's attacks) and he'd get a lot of his old vibes back (while still being more balanced since you're the target instead of him, he's just covering you, also makes him not feel like a buffer doing stoneskin but an actual tank), Garuda would add movement speed after your actions and increase their radius (perhaps something else more fun), Ifrit adding burn to your attacks that he will increase duration every time he hits a target with, Shiva having a freeze mechanic after a certain stack will freeze (stun) the monsters (lowers damage on bosses) and she has a mix of aoe / single target (that deal a little less than the expert Egi, but the aoe stun would be mega helpful in huge trash pulls if your tank or healer needs just that tiny bit extra help, or if a monster has a 'must stun' move), Ramuh would have some slightly different egi assault mechanics and he'd allow you to burst off him occasionally as well as some semi-random / proc based concepts (like BLM) and as you use him he'd help recover your resources if you goofed and died, spammed raises, and have advantage when there isn't anything going on, Levithan would provide a balanced damage output like Shiva while focusing on team defense (while titan is selfish, Levi is not). There would be situations where each niche would shine, but as we all know often one egi will see WAY more use than the others - with the new cycle mechanic that rewards shifting then you get to choose best of two and because each niche you might be switching up that secondary through the other options depending on the situation.
So that'd be just egi lol. Ideally new demi, or some other new tier, like calling down an Elder Primal move (Odin / Alexander), big splashy limit break like content or whatever. Or toying around with demiurge, idea that temporarily the summoner sweeps themselves off the battle field like Yuna in FFX and you control a closer to full form (still not full form) primal (demi-like). May even keep many of the similar spell buttons, just hyper-tune them. Like if it was Ifrit-demiurge your Ruin might cause you to dash to the target if not near them and do swipe attacks, your fester gaining a charge each attack, your enkindle attacking as a short buff window for you to dump your stacked festers, etc. Clearly would need to be careful that it doesn't become too many systems on top of systems though lol.
I'm amazed there're people who still have some hopes about this
I think at the very least they should redesign the original three like people have been asking for and add the other 3 original that was mentioned in 2014. Make three melee based (Summon III) and three range based (Summon I). Also as much hate as I'll get for this one, remove Summon II because at this point we don't need a tank pet but allow chocobo companions in instances during undersized parties.
They have talked about it, they just haven't actually done anything about it. Which is probably worse.

Press: Any updates on the "Egi glamour" system? I know, I know. A short answer is fine.
NY: Yes, we're still working on it. Look for an update around Patch 5.1 at the earliest.
According to another forum poster (ArcaneCarbuncle) it was again talked about in a live letter rerun in May or June and "it was still happening, but he (Yoshi) wasn't at liberty to talk about it". According to the unofficial translation at least, so make of that what you will.
They did mention the PvE adjustments in the Live Letter this morning. Of course, they didn't go into detail that I saw (I haven't seen the translation yet), but maybe then? /shrug Either way, it does feel like a dead topic with no mention of it for a long while.
Hopefullly they are making ai fixes as well. I think they will probably add them during 6.0, if not then then they will never add them.
Dunno, but I had this theory that it's taking so long to actually hear something tangible on it because they are planning on removing Egis and making SMN more centered around different Demi summons... So an egi glamour system coming before 6.0 would be work for nothing.
It would be nice, in case this happens, that the egis and the carbys became cosmetic companions.
I'm treating it like the GS ball from the pokemon anime. It was a huge point at one point, but they just threw it to the side and never did anything with it and hoped that people would forget about it.
Honestly, I didn't even know this was a thing. At this point, there's really only two egi that we use, Garuda and Ifrit, since Titan is no longer a tanking pet. So, I can't see them adding glamours to them. But who knows.
Carby is too much of a mascot so I doubt they'd remove it altogether. Maybe keep it as a single default egi [that you can change color] and it 'evolves' when summoning the demis, now including Ifrit, Garuda and Titan? it'd shift its niche to involve more summonings without entirely overhaul the job /shrug
Why do you need official word? Just assume it's not happening, and be pleasantly surprised if they ever get around to it.
I doubt we'd get any more functionally unique egis.
If anything it'll be reduced down to two...
But I could see us getting some direct upgrades.
Personally I'd like some of the skills reskinned as brief summon skills.
Outburst > Thunderstorm
Painflare > Hailstorm
Tri-disastre > Gyre Spume
Devotion > Mooglesong
Then perhaps maybe direct egi upgrades:
Titan > Sephirot
Garuda > Sophia
Ifrit > Zurvan
With the formers becoming new glamour options.
Am I alone that I would rather the gameplay issues with the pets themselves be addressed before any additional egi glamours?
It's at the point that I wish they never would have implemented it. The lore itself is made out so that we can make an egi look however we want, and for some reason we only choose Carbuncle. Perhaps the idea was to satiate the nostalgia from losing the ability to summon him when we equip a SMN or SCH soulstone, in which case I wish the questline would have been set up in a way where we express a grieving as result of the detachment, and it is then we learn we can shape the Egi to our heart's desire, and the result of that is Carbuncle.
The devs underestimate the seeds they throw away. Some of them take root and grow into something like the egi issue of today. The way they worded that damn quest gave the majority players a continued and false hope that more glamours would be available, and now the devs have to own up to it, or deflect it when they get asked about it.
I don't really disagree that the pets in this game aren't the best. But SE has shown that they ether are not willing or cannot fix them. The least they could do it update egi glamours (since you know they stated I release that it would get updates every patch) so at least we can pretend they care
I still care. I want my little army of minions to have more options in how they look.
If SMN is getting a rework to make it a useless change, that at least would close the issue and let me not have to dream.
Hope hurts.
Meanwhile SCH's would LOVE a "fae" skin for their fairies. . . you know, after traveling to Il Mehg and all.
We'd love to keep our branch with us.
Kinda surprised we didn't get Feo Ul as a minion like Midgardsormr.
I'm still holding out hope for Egi glamours, regardless.
Else, and while I completely disagree with people wanting to remove Egis (them being a part of SMN's entire identity), I do agree that we've been waiting long enough for some official news on their status/progress.
Hell, even showing some concept artwork/models would go a long way...
I'd love a pixie glam or a fe oul glam for my sch. *shrugs* As long as I'm dreaming, right?
I really couldn't picture how they'd rewrite the entire story if they took away sumoner minions...
I play a few mmo were you can do stuff, but are the only one who sees it. For example, your character can be really Kaiju big......To you and only you. Or, in regard to things such as armor. Imo they are thinking of ways to monetize it unless they 100% said it would not be. They could have said that, but I am not an avid poster here, so could have missed it. I reckon they could make a few bucks from classic summon skins from past titles.
By throwing darts to predict the prices of course.
