Suggestion to equip rouge arms in the off hand for cosmetic purposes.

I personally really like the idea of having 2 different weapons I always find it’s more aesthetically pleasing in games like FFIII remake, FFXI and bravely default.

I’d really like to see them allow ninja to equip a second rouge arm in the offhand, not for stats, but purely to change the weapon in your second hand to a different weapon, essentially a glamour for a second hand weapon. They could also apply the same principle to pugilist arms.

To be clear, I’m not asking for them to make a second part for each weapon or a separate offhand version of each weapon like shields for PLD, purely just let us equip existing weapons into the offhand slot to change the appearance of the left hand weapon.

This would be nice for other colors besides red, too.

I think this would be a cool glamour dresser option.

While a cool idea, but I do not think they can do it without changing how rogue/ninja arms work.

Friend was able to do it with a model editor in a morning, i'm sure even an indie company like SE would be able to work it in.

I don’t doubt it would take some time and resources but it’s definitely doable. I’d prefer this to the next umbrella or cuddly toy or whatever they’re adding to fashion accessories.

to be fair here, modders can get away with a lot of stuff because IF in some way or another it breaks something thats not their problem, quality control probably takes a lot longer than actually implementing any kind of change.

Aside from that though, sure ? they have time for umbrellas, they might aswell have time for that, as long as it does not break anything i like the idea, do the same for monks while at it (equality and all).

also IF possible maybe in a limited way for things like ast card holsters, bards quivers etc.

I have no doubt the client can render different main-hand and off-hand weapon models; Gladiator/Paladin Arms and Shields easily prove that. A modder using a model editing to swap out the current rogue/ninja arms models displayed in each hand by the client is different from changing the server side item data that tells the client what to display on others. Currently the best we can hope for is that they can make Rogue/Ninja arm sets that use different models for the main- and off-hands. Any true ability to mix and match models would require reworking how Rogue/Ninja arms work as items and inadvertently necessitate the rework of Samurai, Red Mage, Monk and Dancer arms to allow for blade/sheath, rapier/gem, martial arts and thrown weapon mix-matching as well.

I honestly wouldnt mind if they just dropped duplicates, like how pld sword and shield drop after primals and just had 2 equip slots. that empty square is there for every job, and after level 50 pld is the only that uses an offhand besides crafters

for glam uses only this would be hella cool just like paladin has 2 hands with sheilds and swords

I would prefer that PLD sword and shield became a single item, and then equipping an optional sword+shield in the offhand would set the shield model. NIN, PLD, RDM, and maybe even MNK and DNC would all be able to benefit from such a system.

Weapons would be uniformly one slot across the board, simplifying loot and item acquisition for PLDs (though effectively making shields more expensive, as you would have to buy an entire sword+shield in order to set a mismatched shield), with all stats set by the main weapon. Meanwhile, anything optionally equipped to the offhand slot would contribute no stats and just be there for glamour.

Either way works, but the current system is already really good for glamours(for offhand like shields), typically they reduce the charge of the sword and put the rest into the shield, when it comes to relics or tome weapons respectively. As much of a pain it would be for current Ninja, just splitting the stats and damage wouldnt actually change the current system besides having to buy two for the price of one at tome vendors(and the fun part of min maxing a secondary with different secondary stats etc). That being said it makes the off hand slot box which is primarilly unused by most jobs, fill up slightly more. I like your idea too, just that the system is already in place for off hand as is. The problem is as op stated getting the secondary weapon looks to reflect what is equipped, glamoured. That seems to be mostly on the graphical end. Not to really bust their balls or anything but i am pretty sure they didnt do offhands for Rog/Nin is primarilly because they wanted an easier time. This is why you saw shields on casters disappear after the first coil of bahamut. I dont think that its that the system isnt there(hence op saying it was done in a day by an indie) but that they just didnt want to deal with crunching numbers, and people complaining like early pld when say 1 shield or 1 sword would drop but not both. They have even less to worry about in that sense, as well because weapons dont deal status effects or elemental damage or any of that nonesense, they would just add the total sum of both weapons as the damage. Also they had to design the single weapon anyway

but you see, the system isn't there, and it wasn't done in a day by some buddy of his, texture modding is not remotely the same thing as actually making it run server side in a way you can just swap it out by changing an extra (not yet defined) item and having this actually display and work correctly for everyone.

that isn't to say theres no way it can be done, and again, i really like the idea. IF doable without too much hassle than yes, i totally agree that square should go for it.

However, lets not be blind to the reality of it, the amount of work this would in the end require is depending on quite a bit of variables.

True that, it isnt necessarily a qol improvement neither, as the system working fine.

I wouldn't mind them doing this, but I think they've said before they won't. I would also like to see a weapon for them that is something like a blade in one hand and a claw in the other, or even just a single blade in one hand. Looking at their animations, I don't think it would look too off-putting.

I would strongly support this, particularly for the option to glamour the off hand as empty. As you may recall, the iconic ninja poster has one weapon and one hand free (for mudra).

Did your friend, add in code to be able to change the 2nd weapon or did he merely design the offhand differently while still remaining it as a set. Because those are 2 things and their WAY different. Being able to decide from 2 different weapons or simply making 1 with a different main and off hand.
