Has your nationality/regional dish been featured in FFXIV's cooking recipes?

I didn't level culinarian in Shadowbringers but I let out a little squee of joy when I saw that both paella and arròs negre were recipes in the game. <3 Moltes gràcies :D

My better half, who is German, got a kick out of the fact that sauerkraut and sausage is also in-game, as is sachertorte.

What about you? Has the game featured a recipe from your nationality/region?

No hot dogs, no peppy rolls. D:

We've got an outdoor pizza oven for housing furniture, but still no pizza we can actually eat.

Yes and no, there are actually a lot of recipes which are done in a very Californian way, and a few needlessly vegan recipes. But the original dishes are from other places and the random adding of certain vegetables which are signature to Californian dishes could be because the Californian recipes became global. ie Tso Chicken, Fortune Cookies, Vegan Milk, Western Sushi.

The recipes which scream California.

Hemp Milk ... Vegan Milk
Morel Salad ... Vegan Chinese Chicken Salad

I'd say the Stuffed Artichoke is similar to a Californian variant but that's up in the air.

Do we have many Hispanic inspired dishes? I have CUL to 80 but damned if I paid attention to what I was actually making lol

Sadly no. A past thread I did mention though it would be fun to have some of Australia's famous culinary icons, and I even included possible in-universe lore correct descriptions for them as hypothetical Eorzean dishes (repeated here with some slight tweaking):

I'm not really sure, is there a Schnitzel recipe?

I also don't even really know the difference of typical Austrian and German cuisine. But then again, while I live in Austria I was born in Germany, so for me it wouldn't even matter if it's Austrian or German.

Some dishes like liver cheese sandwich or sauerkraut are both Austrian and German, no idea where they actually originate. Maybe sweet dumplings? Maybe I don't remember it right, but wasn't there a sachertorte?

I feel like we need to page CUL experts to this thread XD

On that note, is there a black bean paste sauce with rice and fish dish in the game? It's a Haitian delight normally eaten on Sundays.

Baltimore, Maryland, USA (where I have some family), got some rep with Crab Cakes this last patch.

I just looked up the Cul recipes (https://www.gameskinny.com/zehpq/ffx...t-full-version *list does not include 70-80.) and to my absolute surprise, Mole Loaf is essentially the way my family does meatloaf (except we use different meat, obviously) right down to the tomato-based sauce on it. I think tomato sauce is actually the less popular option irl as opposed to brown gravy? But there it is. lol

There's a ton of other stuff on there that is definitely food in America, from mustard (deviled) eggs to mahi-mahi. But I dunno about things that are specifically American. We def need pizza, both flat NYC- and deep dish Chicago-style.

And some southern staples. lol Though, to be fair, they do have Bouillabaisse. Technically french, but New Orleans bouillabaisse is a thing.

No maksalaatikko (liverbox/cassarole), no Koskenkorva booze, no mämmi. So no :(

Each time I've traveled internationally and asked where I could find American food, I would usually get pointed to where the fast food franchises are located. Such a shame that some of our cultures most well-known foods have been drowned out by the over saturation of quick eats.

Anywho, there isn't much American dishes in the game. There are many that are known and made in the US, but originate elsewhere. When they have southern BBQ, pumpkin pie, philly cheesesteak sandwiches, sloppy joes, brauts/dogs n' burgers, and a bomb chili recipe with cornbread we can start talking. Maybe toss a funnel cake in there too. Yum!

Poutine: nope
California rolls: Nope. FFXIV has real sushi, not western canadian sushi.
Nanaimo bars: Nope.
Butter tarts: Nope.
Maple syrup: Stacks and stacks and stacks of this.
Ketchup chips: Nope
Dill Pickle chips: Nope
All Dressed chips: Nope.
Caesars: Nope.
Beaver tails: Nope.
Kraft Dinner: Nope.

(Canadian "cuisine" is not the healthiest stuff in the world.)

It's more llike a donut. Think donut with no hole that's been pulled into a beaver tail shape before frying. They're traditionally sprinkled with cinnamon sugar but can have all sorts of toppings added to the top instead. E.g. nutella and bananas is a good topping combo. You can get something similar at most carnivals/fairs where it's usually called fried dough or something similar.

It's only called that in Canada and there's generic brand versions of it aplenty too, so that wouldn't be an issue. It'd just need to be called something generic but look like dayglo orange pieces of straight macaroni. It's even the same stuff that americans have but branded Kraft macaroni and cheese (sort of: it's slightly different due to minor ingredient differences and sources and stuff, sort of like how McD fries are slightly different between US and Canada) although we consume far more of it than they do in the US. We just usually tend to call all versions of it Kraft Dinner or KD anyway, like how people say they're going to xerox something even though that's just a single brand of photocopier.

The most famous hyper local dish for my area is chicken mull, a sort of chicken stew often sold at BBQ restaurants in a very narrow slice of North Georgia, East Carolina (both N and S), and western Tennessee.

Nope. Vancouver. Or do you think french fries come from France too? And regardless of origin a food can still be considered a national or regional cuisine. E.g. pizza is italian not american. California rolls are typically found on top 10 lists of national foods in Canada and you can't take 2 steps in Vancouver without coming across a sushi restaurant with their lunch special being a bunch of California rolls. It's ubiquitous.

Fatburger is nasty and has no flavor. Easily the worst burger I ever had. Ate that crap twice. Once to try it and years later when my wife didn’t know any better and brought some home. Gross.

As far as that Patrami sandwich. I don’t like pastrami so to each their own.

With Pan con Pollo, you’re in flavor country. Obviously I’m exaggerating as saying it’s the best sandwich (I wasn’t making this a competition), but it is one of the most flavorful sandwiches you’ll ever have. They’re not easy to find, and some restaurants are lazy and throw in whole chicken parts with bone, instead of shredded chicken like it’s supposed to be, but when you find a place that does it right, you’re in for a treat. Other than my parents, the best Restaurant that does it is in Garden Grove not too far from Disneyland. On the same street as the main entrance about 10 minutes away. It’s called La Flor Blanca. There are many restaurants with that name that don’t seem related around Los Angeles, but only the one in Garden Grove does it right from what I’ve tried. I don’t live in Garden Grove anymore and have been trying to find one that does it near me and it’s hard.

That looks like a corned beef sandwich (specifically a Reuben) to me, not pastrami. The coleslaw and sauerkraut gives it away I think, since a pastrami usually just has mustard and maybe a pickle on the side.

Corned beef is basically pre-pastrami. It lacks the peppery goodness of a good pastrami

No. They're quite different, but if you don't like pastrami you probably won't like corned beef since the differences aren't like chicken vs. beef. It's more akin to the relative difference between cooked salmon and smoked salmon. They're both salmon but have different flavour profiles.

Oh, and all this reminds me that we also have Montreal smoked meat up here which is in the same vein as pastrami and corned beef but different. If I ever have a smoked meat sandwich it's likely to be this one.
