The Heroes' Gauntlet is yet another misstep in the trend to make all content hardcore

For players who just want to do the story, there shouldn't be any mechanic that will insta-kill you, period. Even when playing with trusts, the Necromancer can insta-kill you if you did not know that the corpses will explode soon, since the trust NPCs sometimes just put the corpses together. That means you get hit 4 times and die... The issue is there is no yellow AOE indicator and that mechanic is totally new so unless you look up a MrHappy or MTQ guide there's no way to know how that mechanic works... After so many people complained about Mist Dragon how come Square Enix still insists on making dungeons harder and harder? Please stop lol

The newest dungeon isnt hard it's just another minor step up I would argue that the corpses isnt even a new mechanic since spread .markers appear for a brief moment which you should recognise. The only new mechanic is on the last boss to avoid the massive aoe. Dungeons have always increased slightly in difficulty and people arent wiping to this one as much as they did to the one in Stormblood I would say this one is easier in comparison.

Are you serious or a troll? Because mechanics are NEW to ALL player on a NEW DUNGEON. It means: you wipe one time, you learn the mechanic, you remember HOW the mechanic works and that's all, you won't do the mistake again. Or you wanna do 1/1 because you're in a hurry? If you have enough time to watch cutscenes (or gpose), you have time to wipe one try.

THIS dungeon is an insult, we get full stopped on so many places where we gotta wait till a npc cleares our way, the mechanics are so easy and forgiving unless you literally roll on 450 or smt and its super linear - if they step up from that the next dungeon will literally be a rail shooter with us being locked on a platform for all dungeon lol

It clearly suffers from the need to be Trust friendly... (and its like 90% reused assets?)

It was certainly the dullest dungeon in memory for me, be it in terms of novelty, fight design, aesthetics... pretty much any consideration. It was kind of like the opposite of seeing Pharos Sirius for the first time back in the day.

Agreed, the extreme emotional strain brought on by this dungeon ruined my marriage and lost me my job.

SE please fix this immediately, or else I will downgrade from 20 retainers to only 19 of them.

I know this thread is very clear bait, but I know there's people who are/will be fooled by it and even agree, so I have this to say:

With regards to the necromancer killing you in one shot: learn by doing. Lots of things in life, not just the game, involve making a mistake and going "oh I see, I understand now" and then not doing it again. Not everything has a neatly written guide for you to follow. Sometimes you just have to do it and see what happens. Making mistakes isn't the catastrophic failure that people have lead you to believe.

why is tc even allowed to post that much?

You obviously never played in ARR then, since corpse mechanics started way back then. Also instadeath has been around since ARR, in main story quests.

-In Heavensward the Weeping City of Mhach had a boss that both used the exploding corpses and instant death if you failed to stand in a detrimental AoE... Forgall did this all before. The crawling zombies that shackle you are from the Siren in Pharos Sirius, which was ARR. Most, if not all, mechanics have appeared in one guise or another across the long life of this MMO... it's up to us to identify them. Or, as others have said, you die and then you get back up going 'Right, not doing that again.'

I don't really fancy a hardcore vs softcore vs casual arguement here... but there's content given to all of us, even if those up the higher end would rightly prefer a lil' more than some 14 fights an expansion (Savage + 2 Ultimates). MSQ has been capable of one-shotting folks since A Realm Reborn and it should be allowed to have those fangs to bear.

Yeah going to dislike this one man. The step up in difficulty is minimal and yeah you should be punished for messing up the bosses big hit mechanic. I have not seen any toxicity because of this and people learn pretty quick after you explain what is up.

Also btw it gets human beings to talk to each other in an mmo.

One-shot mechanics are a part of the MSQ story dungeons almost from the earliest levels so this is nothing new. Story dungeons are in general easy and meant to teach new players some of the basics. Unless at least some of those mechanics can kill you they will just be ignored. I was in a story dungeon yesterday where the boss makes you spread out multiple times and run to different places in the arena, which is hardly unusual. Nevertheless the group tried to stack in the center tunnel the boss and heal through the damage. If that kind of tactic worked that is all you would see on every boss in every dungeon.

I hope this is joke. It is super easy place. Like wall to wall pulls, NPC even help kill packs and boss abilities is so obvious. My 1st tough there was that Enix made it easier bcos people was complaining. And yet it is still to hard? Just how easy contest people want? Dummies instead?

I know this was a troll post, but I'm just gonna say this. You're level 80 at this point. In any other Final Fantasy game, you would expect the mobs in a dungeon to be hard to manage at levels much lower than this.

To be fair, mandatory content in FF games are typically significantly lower level than the level cap. This means that you could easily out level the entirety of the "main quest" to the point where it's almost faceroll. The content being max level combined with the syncing makes that not possible. But I had to come see this when Ilya posted about it, and you're right, likely a troll post.

I did feel like the enemies were damage sponges but really not all that hard. The mechanics of the mobs were cool but they weren't difficult, I'd be happier with mechs that ensured we all got hit by mobs all the time just to add that feeling of Hey, I'm being hit and that something is actually happening, but I'm not looking to dying 20 times just to clear a dungeon hard either. Like when the spectral bards are hitting us with *Rain of Death, just let them hit us with it! Please don't give us a 10-second AOE marker to get away, it doesn't need to murder us in one shot either but geez, it really bothers me everytime I see that particular mechanic in this dungeon. Same with the black mages, at least lower the AOE timer with them.

A stronger balance with the fear of possibly dying and yet also being able to clear the dungeon in a timely manner would be great! It's not out of the realm of possiblity.

Enemy sponges are nothing more but a test on our patience of how long can we stand around hitting something and waiting for it to die, that's not fun or difficult and I wish the devs would understand that testing our patience of how long it takes to traverse from point A to point B like putting a fence or three directly in our path that we can't jump over but have to walk 15-20 malms to get around(I understand when it's a giant block) or by making enemy sponges with near-zero possibility of dying by them is NOT making the game hard, it's making it a chore and annoying. It's hard on our patience in the sense that it's boring because there's not enough happening, that's about it.

After the first 2-5 runs we're grinding dungeons on auto-pilot because we have too, for something we need or want, do you not see anything wrong with this? And not being able to jump over a 3 foot fence in our path that's only 20 malms long and can walk around is really draining our aether doing it again and again when you know you should be able to jump over it! I'm looking at you Outer La Noscea 21.5-16.5 (pre-3.0, yes I'm still mad about that).

There's lots they can do to work this balance, we have self-heals, we have healers, we have potions(which are currently useless in most content), come on SE, work out the numbers and lets figure this out so it's more enjoyable.

Another reason why it's not even hard is because there's common markers for enemy attacks and even a bar that tells you the next attack, simple as it is, makes a whole world of difference. Just learn by playing.

Watching videos to understand the mechanics before you go into the dungeon shouldn't be a burden. It should be mandatory. Standing in bad because you don't understand the mechanics isn't the healer's problem.

Please understand the mechanics before you go into a dungeon, especially if you are using duty finder. Really, it is less than 5 minutes of your life to watch a video.

So a couple things. I see that youre new here, so ill share some perspective. The OP here is a known forum troll. When they go through an active period, they make multiple "infamatory" threads a day. Some of them try to make a salient point in the worst way possible, others are just trolling to troll. This is one of the later ones.

As for your point about dungeons i would actually disagree. Nothing in any normal mode duty is tough enough to require someone to do research before queing. Extremes and savages are another story - going in blind with other people who enjoy that(as in pre-form a group) is fine but the community at large is going to expect some idea what is happening in an open party. But again, thats for the harder difficulties. Story mode has no requirement nor does it need one. Knowing how to play your class and paying attention will get you through almost any normal mode content just fine. Someone who lacks confidence is free to do extra research, but this is optional to make them feel better and nothing more.

Dungeons don’t require videos. The only content that would require watching a video would be Extremes, Savages, and Ultimates. Dungeons, normal mode raids, story trials, and even alliance raids never require watching videos for mechanics.

People are more than welcome to watch a video if they want to—but it is not mandatory to do.

How are the guides going to exist if it's mandatory to watch the guide first but players can't get in because they haven't watched the guide?

No, it should not be mandatory. Many players find enjoyment in doing content blind and figuring mechanics out as they go. It doesn't matter that they're playing the game for the first time years after the content was released - they deserve their shot to experience it blind.

It's not up to you to decide how others must play a game.

Hardly. Dungeons and even normal trials and raids are all casual enough that you can learn everything on your first or second pull. And even if it takes 2 or 3 pulls, that's hardly the end of the world.
