What's up with Minecraft Exarch?

I've seen some stuff about textures but I don't think I've ever seen it as bad as these late cutscenes in 5.3. I've done some 3d modelling before and I don't even know how they could make the maps this bad. I can't be the only one loving 5.3 and then you get to that one scene wondering if we went back in time to the N64 days.

It's the same as everything else, it looks good at a distance.
Sadly, the parts where it was used had a lot of cutscenes that wanted closeups.

It's pretty hard to make pixelated textures without it being someone messing up the uv files. It's not even a distance thing.

The textures just are what they are. The overall art style of this game is fantastic and the character models look great as well so I can overlook the textures while observing the game as a whole.

Maybe we will get a texture update in the future or maybe not. I’d be okay forgoing an expansion pack if they spent an entire 2 years upgrading every texture and polygon in the game however.

My Exarch's staff was floating a few feet away from his hand the whole time during the cutscene where he crystalized lol

Hien suffers from a similar problem. The textures for his attire look very grainy which is odd for a character that is not only front and centre for most of Stormblood but who also has his outfit available as a paid acquisition for players...

I honestly didn't even notice the pixelisation at the time - or certainly didn't process it. I was too worried about him.

Its pretty much this, the bigger the texture is, the more pixelated it gets.

Clothing is the worst. Hair isn't great either.

Hence the slice of Archon Loaf looked amazing - The size made it easy to give it a detailed look. But when you stretch the texture to the proportions of a Hyur .... well, yeah.

Yeah that bothered me the whole time. It's like they had 6 pixles to work with. It kind of worries me how they're not making new gear or at least primary npcs at a higher resolution. The PS3 is gone, we don't need to keep optimizing for it.

I'm just under the assumption that the spagetti code is so bad that the engine will literally melt down if they go over some arbitrary memory limit for character textures.

Right now the game is being held back by minimum PC requirements, not PS3 or PS4. I've noticed bad textures for awhile, but I'm not going to let it get in the way of enjoying the game. Hopefully we'll get an update either next expansion or the one after that with better stuff going forward and the minimum requirements will be raised. But considering the game is very successful as it is and looks OK despite being 10 years old, I don't see SE making drastic changes to existing textures or the long list of coding issues. I don't think WoW started updating their own textures on characters until they started losing subs and Yoshi-P said there's no intention of fixing the spaghetti code.

As mentioned earlier, Hien suffers from the same problem - and there wasn't a pandemic during Stormblood. Mysteriously, such issues also never seem to emerge when it comes to the textures of female characters - who typically seem to look fine in cutscenes from every possible angle.

I'm on maximum settings and low quality textures really stand out, but honestly? They aren't important. I noticed, but I was more enraptured by the story and wtf was happening to my baby. The only times I'm truly taken out of the scene is when I clip through the scenery on the account of being too big (Far Eastern maiden's dress on female roe during the war table scene) or if my hair goes through my collar.

They might have used all of their high quality pixels on something else of Hien's. WINK WINK

I’d love that myself but Yoshi said that it would require a massive amount of work which would take the place of an expansion, it’s that resource intensive. Now it’s possible to hire a new art team just for that task, there will be tens of thousands of item to recreate and that will take years to create.
