Were common people aware Bahamut was a primal?

Its likely been answered before but I've just been wondering why it hasn't be re-summoned like Ifrit, Garuda, Titan? Faith doesn't seem to be the only way considering the eden quest line we can summon them. Bahamut left a big impression and showed up in a large area even attacking a city. Am I missing something?

Because the Original Summoners are either long gone or hiding out in Azys La in a in a lament due to Summoning him.

Doesn't mean other people cant summon it. We aren't the original summoners to the 3 primals but summoned them with Eden. If common people knew Bahamut was a primal they could summon him but be vastly different in temperament like titan from that little kobold baby.

Nobody really seems to worship Bahamut, so nobody's tried to summon him. In theory, it could be done, if someone had enough power at hand to do so; but that requires a massive aether source, like an elder dragon's eyes (see Shinryu), and they're not exactly easy to come by.

Well do the common people know Bahamut was a primal? It would explain why people haven't tried something thinking it was just some super dragon of some kind. You don't need a lot of aether to summon a big primal as their strength is determined by the amount of aether given like with titan if I recall correctly.

Did anyone know Bahamut was a primal until the Binding Coils? I honestly forget.

In any case, it's rarely brought up, but it doesn't seem to be common knowledge. It's never specified one way or the other.

you do need alot of aether, in fact you need as much as what nidhogg had managed to gather in his eyes for 1000s of years. i know this cause shinryu was supposed to be as strong if not stronger than bahamut. Not only that every primal needs more aether than the world can sustain since they keep taking aether after they are summoned.

So size is affected by aether, not just strength? When ng+ does ARR, i'll focus more on the mechanics of primal summonings.

Firstly nobody would probably want to, except maybe a mad cult or something (glances at Lambs of Dalamud)... but if they did, then it would be the same as any primal: reliant on the amount of aether that its summoners can power it with. He could be called up and have all the strength of Lv20 Ifrit.

im pretty sure size isnt something they think about when summoning X)
Its not like you couldnt create a small but immensely powerfull primal, or a huge but really weak summon.

Oh yea we have an example of that. Thordan, isnt he like barely as tall but he used one of nidhogg eyes to power up himself. so ye there you go.

The physical form isn't really important. The Warring Triad aren't any bigger than a regular primal (aside from Sephirot's giant phase), but they're each on par with Bahamut.

they most definitely arent on par with bahamut.

Calamity Bahamut was so insanely strong because he was being fueled by a moon-sized aether power plant combined with the desperate pleas for salvation from thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of imprisoned dragons, for thousands of years. You can't just whip up that kind primal juice on the spur of the moment, so no single primal will likely ever have the sheer immense size and destructive power we saw Bahamut unleash when he broke free of Dalamud.

If someone were to try and summon him again, it would be with far reduced summoning resources and the resultant primal would be far weaker, and on par with the primals we have already faced.

The Warring Triad we fought were stated to be far weaker representations of the actual Warring Triad as they were originally summoned by their races back during the war with the Allagans, where each one was in fact a massive force of nature capable of leveling entire nations, due to being summoned by their entire tribe as a last resort. The ones we fought were simply smaller scale versions being summoned by a small number of captured representatives of their race.

Should also mention that the only reason we are able to whip up our own personal primals to fight in the Eden quests is because we are using the massive power of Eden as well as our own unique abilities as the Warrior of Light (and who knows what else) to summon them.

No one currently wants to resummon Bahamut. Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan, Ravana and Bismark have all been resummoned because the tribes worshiping them did so in a desire to get back at their enemies. Bahamut's tribe is currently either in suspended animation or does not want to resummon him.

Shinryu was technically based on Bahamut.

Nope. Ilberd wanted to recreate and exceed the devastation caused by Bahamut at Carteneau and used the sacrifice of himself and his people to summoned a bigger badder dragon primal inspired by Bahamut. The new dragon primal was named Shinryu by the Doman refuges after a legendary beast (which was likely Midgardsormr) described in Far Eastern Legend.

He says in his dialog
I will call upon a deity more terrible than the very black wyrm of calamity itself, not that he wants to summon a dragon thats like bahamut, and he is indeed based after a far eastern legend, so where exactly did you see its based off bahamut?

TL;DR, nobody entirely knows why Shinryu looks like a dragon. Other than that dragons are awesome.

@ OP: Nobody was aware of Bahamut being sealed within Dalamud until the Calamity itself (Nael's deus Darnus phase in 1.x strongly suggested it though), and common folk are not all that knowledgeable on world events or the deep truths of the world. So... veeeeeeeeeery unlikely.

As for Shinryu, its form is implied to be the result of interplay between his power source (Nidhogg's eyes) and Ilberd's wish for a primal more powerful than Bahamut with which to lay waste to the Empire. More strangely is that Shinryu's form echoes an evil, crystalline Midgardsormr at his full power; Middy even refers to it as a "vile simulacrum [of myself]" during the Omega storyline, and he was chased to Hydaelyn by Omega (Final Fantasy meta-mythos has a bit about Omega trying and failing to destroy Shinryu, which fits more with Midgardsormr here).

So basically Shinryu is an evil, shoddy knockoff of Midgardsormr.

Bahamut was also augmented by the massive cascade of astrally-charged aether from the Seventh shard rejoining to the Source.

Even if someone did attempt to summon Bahamut again it wouldn't likely even look like the Bahamut we saw in 1.0/2.0 really. It seems like for a Primal to remain a particular shape seems like it needs people to believe in a particular form or appearance. It's the reason why when we summon Primals during Eden they have almost nothing in common outside of general attributes because it was forged from our Character's memories then any kind of unified belief.

Though most people saw the impact and experienced the calamity, not all of them probably witnessed Bahamut directly which would impact the ability to summon it in the form we know him as. It would probably be a completely different primal at that point.
