As far as I know that isn't against the rules so as long as you're not facilitating any business.
No definitely not. Thanks :)
Edit: it’s against the rules, contacted a gm and they told me
People have links to their personal carrds, twitters, and tumblrs on their character profiles and SE has never minded. So long as you don't try to engage in RMT you're fine.
I contacted a gm and he or she said it’s against the rules
I don't think it's enforced unless someone is using the game to sell something (dunno lets say you sell pc parts and are advertising or creating transactions in the game) or if the intent is malicious such as giving someone a different person's private details with the intent to aid stalking, or you're pretending to be someone you're not.
People share private information all the time whether that's handles for social media, real names and even home addresses. I'd say as long as you're just two buddies sharing information you have nothing to worry about as far as punishment from SE goes.
I think SE "forbid it" to cover their own behind. So that they cannot be held responsible if something goes very sour as a result of players sharing such information in their game. Going back to the pc parts shop example, a player who used the game to buy those parts cannot get help from SE if it turns out to be a scam, because what they were doing was against the game rules in the first place.
Did the GM say WHY it's not allowed?
I'm not sure I understand.
Officially, likely to protect minors like the OP.
Also, its a cover move by SE for liability reasons. They've told you you are not allowed. If you do it anyway and give it to the wrong person and end up stalked or something, you can't blame SE.
EDIT: And don't get me wrong, AajaRyskaris. I think you should definitely follow the rule.
Most places will have some line disallowing sharing of "personal information" somewhere in TOS. Technically against the rules, but largely just a bit of ass coverage.
Hell, look at all the PF listings directing players to discord. Same principle.
Just comes down to "we can't moderate what happens out of game, so if you break the rules, that's all on you."
Yep, it's also technically the reason SE has rules against people commissioning art for gil. They aren't actually going to go after you for it, and they don't mind it unofficially, but to cover themselves if something goes wrong their official stance will always be that it's not allowed. However unless the person is sending links to phishing sites or something trule egregious you'll never hear about them getting banned for it.
Ahh, I see.
Thank you.
How on earth could that possibly be "against the rules?"
I don't get it.
I'm guessing they said it's not allowed because of this:

■Harassment
"Harassment" means speech and/or behaviour that inflicts deep emotional distress on another person. It is an extremely serious violation. Where Square Enix determines that harassment has occurred, a penalty equal to or higher than "Temporary Service Account Suspension" may be imposed.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of behaviour that could constitute harassment in Final Fantasy XIV:
・Discriminatory expressions based on race/nationality/thinking/gender/sexual orientation/gender identity
・Discriminatory expressions about a state/religion/occupation/organisation, etc.
・Obscene/indecent expressions
・Actions that inflict emotional distress using content related to historical events or crimes
・Stalking
・Disclosing or indicating personal information such as contact details with the aim of meeting up in the real world
・Disclosing or indicating another person's real world personal information without permission
・Other actions that are generally regarded as actions that inflict deep emotional distress on another person
These are prohibited in all places where expressions can be made, including chat (including Quick Chat and Emote), markers, comments and names. With regard to character names, if a phrase equating to harassment is formed within the full name, this is also regarded as harassment. In the case of a group action, all of the members involved will be subject to penalties.
There may be other types of harassment that do not fit into any of the categories described above. Square Enix may determine that conduct constitutes harassment, even if such conduct is not expressly prohibited herein.
