Suspending Auto-demo is always a terrible idea: A small rant.

I'm aware I'm going to get lit up for this, but I'm sorry, it's just a fact.

I understand, and commend, what SE is trying to do with it, but in effect, it's just dumb.

If anyone is having serious problems in the real world, be the cause natural disaster, pandemic, or just personal issues, those problems will be severe enough that losing a digital dollhouse is hardly on their list of priorities.

Meanwhile, it punishes players that can still enjoy the game, and makes abuse far more rampant, by means of bots buying houses on alts to sell them. (To wit, on Famfrit, there exists someone using the tag 'freestyle (class)' who currently owns 7 houses in a single district, none of them with any buildings on them.)

It's a nice gesture, but it is one that I feel isn't thought out, and open to abuse, because we can't have nice things without someone coming along and ruining it.

People that are impacted by national, or global crises may certainly appreciate having access to their "little dollhouse."
Heck, if their real residence is impacted... it may even feel like a blessing to them.

Would you honestly feel satisfied promptly claiming a house from someone who has a victim of COVID-19?
Even if I didn't have a house, I sure as hell wouldn't.

Botting is also by no means mutual to auto demolition suspensions, the very notion is frankly outrageous.
The housing system could definitely use some improvements to curb botting activity, but not suspending demo timers during a global crisis is no such solution.

Ishgard housing will most likely be introduced in the future.
You're just going to have suck things up and wait until the situations change - like many current home owners have done previously.

You're essentially asking to take advantage of people in financial crisis due to Covid or whatever else might be going on. All because you want a house. Do you not see the entitlement there?

It's undeniable at this point FFXIV's housing system is immensely flawed and poorly thought out. However, that is the fault of SE not the playerbase.

If you got hospitalized with the virus and came back only to see a bot had bought your house I'm sure you'd be instead putting up threads about how we needed to suspend auto-demolish.

Those people who buy up every house they can by and large seem to do so in protest to the way the housing system works.
Get angry at them for making housing harder for everyone else. Sounds like your issue should be with people trying to take advantage of the system, and not the imperfect system itself (though it should change too, that is tangential to your point about auto-demolish).

As for your point about how the suspension is being abused, I think you're point is getting a little lost there.
If bots are buying up every house they can (like you seem to be claiming) how stopping people from losing their houses amount lead to bots buying up houses in a way that abuses the suspension? Their behavior would be the same either way. The way things are they're just not able to take advantage of people.

I think I would be even more devastated if on top of severe real-life issues I would lose my house in FFXIV as well. It's something I really love, something that is fun and makes me happy. It doesn't matter at all that it's digital if it makes me happy - losing it would make me sad.

I mean, the way you say it even sounds like those players will return to the game after their problems have been resolved. Returning to something you love after hard times is worth a lot. Even if it's a video game. If someone doesn't plan to ever return, then I understand it, but you should always assume first that the issues are only temporary.

If someone likes to paint and gets their arm broken you wouldn't just give away a third of their utensils just because he can't paint for a while. Even if others would love to use their expensive materials.

Don’t sub loose Home, halting the entire housing market like this is a bad choice and bloats it becoming what it is today. I even say they should get stricter with FC homes. Looking at you 100+ fc with no active members one besides the lead who own an 3 mansions

I'm going to end up simply re-posting what I had said in another post somewhere on this Housing Forum, simply because it seems to fit a bit too well here.

If you were in their position, you would be thanking SE for offering to relieve some of the stresses of the current events, rather than condemn them because you are unaffected.

Not everyone at this current point has the ability to log-in and play. Life takes priority, especially during the majority of this year and, despite what plenty of people tend to believe, not everyone is rolling in disposable income. In fact, during this crisis, I know of plenty of friends and their families having to cut down to barely staving off starvation, just to get by. Purely because they can't work their jobs or get paid as a result of the crisis. I know they all love to play FFXIV and all are very appreciative that SE was kind enough to give them a pat on the back and a "Don't worry, we'll keep things safe for you 'till you get back" mentality.

What SE has chosen to do is purely to help those that can't help themselves right now. Anything that comes as a result of that choice is not their problem, at least not yet. Botting has always been a rampant issue and SE could really do to get more heavy-handed with their response to them. But I don't think now is the time to take the gloves off.

My man low key do you want a plot? I will "gift" ya a small I have on Fam? Will be tied an an FC though.

I totally agree. FC have become a joke in the housing market with shell FC's purchased with a main and alts as members. It's only made worse by SE's willingness to give them priority purchase rights for months before those interested in privates can get a shot at purchasing a house for the first time.

And I'm all for a paying sub is all that should be required to keep a house. The 45 day timer needs to go as well. Seems demolition is off more than it's on.

The issue here is that there isn't enough housing. We should be pushing SE for more wards for the players who are still in the game rather than removing the suspension on the auto demolition.

Hopefully when Ishgard housing is released they also add extrs wards to existing zones.

We're months into this pandemic and the timer still hasn't been reinstated.

Didn't realize that not paying your sub got you such premium treatment from developers. Neat!

Pandemic means job closures and/or furloughs (and that's if you're fortunate enough to not be infected).
Inability to work means inability to make money.
No money means no sub.
The pandemic has made people unable to play the game through no fault of their own.
And you want to punish them for something that they have no control over.

There were 8 wards in the game at that time.

We now have 21.

Are you honestly going to sit there and say they've done nothing since that post?

Isnt that also pre-subdivision? And clearly its pre-shirogane. No one thinks the current system is perfect, but to say that theyve made no changes in 6 years is either ignorance or lies to fit an agenda.

Instead of people getting screwed over who had the misfortune of a lapsing account, the screws were put to PAYING CUSTOMERS who had not yet acquired a house. It was a horrible decision and never should have been implemented.

Say you had a house, yet after getting one, you come down with a terrible sickness, or you lose internet at your house, etc. Whatever. Through no fault of your own, you cannot log into FFXIV for a while and, when you are finally able to return, you get a "You lost your house" message. You'd be pretty pissed off, wouldn't you? You're still paying your sub during the time you're gone, yet you still lose it.

Imagining you answered "Yes, I'd be pissed off" to the above. Why is it okay for other "paying customers" to lose their stuff, yet at the same time, completely forbidden for you to be held to that same standard? You aren't a special snowflake. You pay the same fee everyone else does. Think about other people and their issues, instead of focusing in on the "I'm the only one that matters" mentality. Because that'll get you no brownie points from anyone.

Small problem with your evaluation, I don't have a house and Squeenix has set things up to make it nigh impossible for me to acquire one. A normal person would understand my perspective as I'm being unfairly punished for things outside my control. You, on the other hand, attack me and subject me to labels because I fail to tow the line and accept what the status quo insists upon.

And I'm not here for brownie points. I'm here to give my opinion on things that directly and negatively affect my game experience. If you're actually here for brownie points, then you are a sad excuse for a human being.

Yet another symptom of the awful housing system; some players see one of the ways they will be able to get a house is to take advantage of another player's real life problem.

Not saying I agree with OP, I certainly don't at all. I think their post is disgusting. However such a post wouldn't exist if the housing system wasn't so limited.

This is such poor reasoning because a digital house isn't on top of anyone's list of priorities. People grade things like an income, food, roof over their head, etc far above a digital home for obvious reasons. This reasoning can be applied to literally every player who supports themselves financially.

That snippet is little more than a way to absolve themselves of guilt while belittling how much a digital home can mean to a person. You don't automatically stop caring about the little things in life just because you have big problems.

Actually, you do. Having to deal with the big problems puts in perspective just how meaningless those little things are. There are all sorts of little things I used to care greatly about when I was younger and had fewer worries/responsibilities. When I had to start dealing with the big problems, those little things stopped mattering to me because no matter how nice they were to have they were of no use to me in trying to deal with the big stuff.

But then if you're never truly had to deal with the really big stuff as an adult, I guess that little stuff might still seem to be important.

If I end up in the hospital again, I'm not going care if my virtual house in an online game gets demo'd and everything I have in that house lost. It's meaningless compared to recovering my health so I can return to a normal life. I can replace that stuff later if I'm able to return to the game. Better for someone who is able to play the game to have access to it than to having it sitting unused while I'm unable to play.

If you value stuff in a game so much that you worry about no longer having it, I promise you that you don't have your priorities straight.

I'm not going to tell you how you react to that sort of situation is wrong because everyone is different. I can only give my perspective.

I have my own health issues. I'm currently facing the possibility of being disabled for the rest of my life due to a neurological condition that can affect mobility and render a person blind among other debilitating things.

I didn't stop caring about my game stuff. Honestly it's what keeps me going sometimes. Not only are they a much needed distraction but they're also a way I can do things I cannot do in real life whether that's travelling to places with ease or decorating a dream home.

Is my game stuff my top priority? No, of course not. But does it matter a lot to me? Yes it truly does. At this point I have a wealth of memories attached to some of the things I own. I know that one day these things will be taken away when the servers will inevitably shut down for the last time, but as long as the game is alive the digital things that have precious memories attached to them will matter to me a great deal, and losing them would upset me. Yes I can get another house if I lose mine but it won't be the same house. That house to me is far more than just an area I place furniture.

I know not everyone has my experiences with health or the game, and even if they do it doesn't mean that they feel the same way. But I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. I have met many players who own digital items or assets that have a tremendous amount of sentimental value for them.

You say these things are meaningless compared to having a normal life for yourself, well for me having these things is part of my normal life.

And I'm sorry to read that you have experienced health bad enough to be hospitalised. I hope you will continue to be well enough to not end up there again.
