5.3 is a long way from now so...

We know now that the patch is a long way to come and the content is pretty much dry atm

The moogle Tomestones are good for mgp farming or the mounts that you missed but... lets face it. Its good and fun for 15 days before the patch, not 2 months.


So, why not letting players something to enjoy, mainly speaking:

- Remove the cap for Allegory tomestones, so people can gear up some more jobs while waiting for the new content, i have all job at 80 now and i could gear something more if only the cap wasnt so ridiculous after all this time.

- Release 1 completed content that is ready for 5.3 and its just waiting for the 5.3 release. (if you have any) (new Eureka / ultimate or whatever)

I know im pretty much pretencious and that some changes require the right timing, i know that the virus wasnt kind to anyone and made things worst for everyone.
Im just throwing out and idea, a request that may sound disrespectful, but im supporting this game and i want to enjoy it at best even now.
Little changes out of the usual schedule could give many benefits to those who are spending their time now on FF14

Its hard to just "release a piece of content" because its tied into other bits of things. They've have to release the entire patch.

I feel like they could remove the savage restriction in the meantime though. Just a tiny bit ahead of schedule.

Would be nice but then any player doing Savage has zero reason to touch the 24-Man or EX Primal beyond clearing it once or the usual farm. Not to mention, it gives more players a reason to unsub since once they farm what they want, well...

With that said, I think these are unique enough circumstances they should just swallow that so people at least something more to do.

savage unlocks only happen a few weeks prior to the release of the next raid tier. if it was done now there would be no reason to run the next 24 man or EX trial. you might as well just invalidate all the work that goes into that.

very much agreed, i got my shiba necklace and now im done with XIV, currently playing FFXI and Temtem

Surely by releasing restrictions and uncapping Allegory, people will get through content/goals quicker and therefore have less to sustain their continuous play...

If anything, they should be promoting fan works, like another housing, furnishing or gear design contest. That doesn't take that work much to do and can keep the players busy.

I actually returned from a break on FFXIV a few weeks ago after I completed FF7 Remake.

Coming back to FFXIV after another game just makes things refreshing.

To be fair, many people have taken breaks. Some spanning months. Your response was "take an even longer break!" At what point does it become a fault of the design having very little longevity? Or are people expected to take a full year off so they aren't rushing?

Don't get me wrong. This delay is due to unique circumstance which are completely understandable. It still shows the design flaw of the content as a whole. Hence why people are critical of it. You don't have to agree but constantly saying "TAKE BREAKS!" isn't a good answer, especially when they do.

I am well aware of that. No developer can. That doesn't mean they can't make content with that lasts longer. Take the current relic step. It literally takes no more than two hours and you're gifted three relics; the remainder being easily farmed by simply running roulettes each day. Had that first step been made better—both in what it offered and the grind itself being better—you'd have something with longevity. When other MMOs can figure this out, FFXIV shouldn't be exempt from criticism because it's "a casual game."

You're also missing my point. It isn't taking breaks itself that's a bad response but constantly using it whenever someone brings up FFXIV's lack of longevity with its content is. In another thread, several people said they were had been on breaks spanning months, they were told "take even longer ones!" That's when advising people to take breaks is bad. They already did. It's essentially dismissing any and all criticism.

If FFXIV's content can only last if you barely play the game, then yes, it is a design flaw. Most other media doesn't have a monthly sub attached to it. So the expectation isn't there for longer enjoyment. Put simply, when people criticism the lack of longevity. Most aren't expecting to be entertained indefinitely over a three month period. They want something that lasts beyond a week that isn't Savage. And it shouldn't take you playing two hours or less a day to have that.

And then they put in something like the old Eureka and people complain it takes too long and is too grindy. I get that players want more content to churn through but the devs really can't win either way if they do that. They could easily make content take longer but at that point the game becomes a job. It becomes something where you are literally punished if you don't put in your several hours every single day.

Has it swung too far in the other direction? Sure, I can see that argument but I haven't really seen an acceptable answer for what exactly the devs are supposed to do in order to please the millions of people who play the game.

The problem is the speed at which some players consume the content.

I have been playing since 1.0. Once Yoshida took over, I have only taken one break that lasted long enough for my sub to lapse (by which I mean I didn't play for a few weeks, rather than not playing for a few days). I still have massive amounts of stuff to do in game, including 7 jobs that are still not max level. I play several times a week, usually for at least three hours, longer at a weekend. But I know I'll regret rushing through content or get bored or get burned out, so I take my time. I don't think it's physically possible to have literally everything accomplished in the game unless you've been putting in 12 hour days at some point. I know people who've maxed out all their jobs, for example, and they've done so by being in game almost nonstop over a period of time. Which is up to them, of course, but that's why they can claim to have nothing to do whilst I still have plenty to do.

Just give your money to another MMO, lol.

People complained about Eureka because it was handled so poorly. How many threads were their suggesting likes like hunting specific mods (sort of like our old hunting log), quests of some variety, chain bonuses spawning more mini-boss like mobs aside from NM? The list really goes on. What did we get? The same trash mobs except instead of 10,000 HP they now had 50,000. They still mostly auto-attacked and were basically riskless fodder unless you pulled like six of them at once. And adding to that, you needed to kill 300 of these in Pagos when it first released. That's the definition of a lazy grind. It added almost nothing but make boring mobs into massive damage sponges.

Conversely, when Logos actions were introduced; and later BA, complaints simmered down considerably. Ironically, they outright said they held off Logos actions in Pagos because they "wanted people to adjust to Eureka mechanics." Yeah. It backfired immensely. Had they released those Logos actions from the get go, Eureka wouldn't have nearly as poor a reputation as it does now.

The higher level floors of Deep Dungeon are another good example of taking existing things but giving them new life. There you have priority mobs, encouraged crowd control and debuffs all meant to make otherwise boring trash mobs more interesting. It goes to show that not much is necessary. Unfortunately, HoH saw a less innovation. And now we aren't getting another at all. I am reserving judgment on that though until I see the replacement content.

While to some extent, yes. That excuse really gets overused. Lets look at 5.1. Only the Firmament and Ultimate take longer than a few hours to complete. The former does have a secondary grind after Ishgard Restoration is complete but that isn't exactly quality content. Ultimate is, well, Ultimate. Playing through the MSQ and Copied Factory when both release isn't what I'd consider rushing.

It's not about more fresh content to churn through and devour, most people are fairly satisfied with the game overall, that's why we're still here. It's just about asking for a few minor things to keep us occupied. Uncapping tomes, removing loot restrictions early, turning old events or buffs on or w/e isn't even content, it's simply a small time sink that could be enjoyable. Chance to try some new classes or such perhaps.

It's also worth remembering the length between this patch and 5.3 is not the intentional length. It's a much longer delay than usual. It's not a case of us having devoured content faster than intended. Most have been quite understanding given the circumstances and asking for something minor is hardly unreasonable. All other games with content delays are managing this. WoW has exp and rep buffs running until their next expansion for example.

I'm not going to riot if we get nothing, it's perfectly fine. At the end of the day it's just a request and feedback. However, if it's a case of not being able to flip the switch on anything that easily, I'd hope they learn from this and work on having some sort of back-up content they can flip the switch on in the future.

I'm I the only one who can spend an entire day doing things in the game and still get nothing done? I've been playing off and on since ARR, have picked up every expansion at release and I'm still nowhere near running out of things to do.

That's really entirely subjective. Just because you don't consider it quality doesn't make it so.

You can find people in the Firmament and the Diadem all hours of the day. I'd say that makes it quality regardless of my opinion on gatherer/crafters. People are engaging in the content in large volumes with little complaint.

Fact is, FFXIV playerbase is made of niches. We have two majority groups which is "people who complete the MSQ" people who use glamours. Everything else is a minority. Raiding, roleplaying, gold saucer minigames, housing, side quests, gathering, crafting, BLU, PVP, etc. are all minorities that SE caters to, and sometimes you just have to accept that the content being made isn't for you.

You're attaching a value to "monthly sub" when it has none. It's 13/15 dollars. If you subbed in and played for literally two hours and put the game down, you got the same or more value than: a middle class restaurant meal, a movie with out concessions, 1-2 drinks at a bar, an ice skating trip, a pool game for 2 for 1 hour, and I'm sure there's more examples but tbh I'm a shut in and don't really know what other people do for fun.

As for savage, around 90% of the NA playerbase doesn't clear the final fight in a given tier. We're not all starving with nothing to do because we don't raid savage. There's content in the game, and just because you don't like it doesn't make it a design flaw.

I have been in the Diadem. While yes, people are there. It's no more than a handful. Likewise, the same goes for the Firmament. The population pretty much crashed the moment the crafting ranks halted. Regardless, I'm referring to the 500,000 Skybuilder points on every DoL/H job. That isn't quality content no more than grinding 10,000 FATEs is. The Firmament itself is fine, and actually pretty decent.

And I do a lot of that content. It still doesn't last unless you do every little thing. That may be their model but that doesn't absolve it from criticism. Hence why practically every other Q&A people bring up Mythic+ and a slew of other things.

You're implying all I do is Savage. Which is quite not only an assumption but an incorrect one. I've done everything from FATE grinds, crafting all the way to Ultimate. So please spare me the "you're just a raider" nonsense. I simply disagree. The game doesn't have a bevy of content if you're actively playing for any significant length of time. Sure, if you're only playing a handful of hours a week, you'll be tons waiting. But if not, you're burn through everything even at a slow pace. I brought up 5.1 for a reason. The Firmament and Ultimate are the only two things with any sort of longevity to them. The relic typically fills this gap but it's over in a heartbeat now.

To hopefully put this conversation on the right foot, I don't think you're wrong that you'll eventually burn through everything, but I do disagree in the way it should be handled and the expectations from SE.

"Just make more content" isn't an answer I'm sure we can both agree on that, so what's the alternative?

Is there something you feel that this expansion lacked that previous ones did?

Personally I'm down with the crowd of Mythic+ style dungeons.

Also I'm not really sure why you mention relics considering your disdain for the skybuilder's points. Most of the meat of relics was just grinding the same content ad nauseum, at least until pyros was released.

simply flipping a switch and uncapping tomes/unlocking savage is not feasible. if that happens before the catchup patch is implemented, there is no reason to run said content for gear. you've just completely invalidated the work put into it.

turning on old events again... if it's already gone to the mogstation then it's too late for that content.

if you want to try out new jobs then just try out new jobs.

as for relic steps. 1st step is ALWAYS easy. they also specifically said this time they didn't want it to be difficult so it was a more easy first step than others. they're just following their plan. if you don't like the plan... tough tamales.

The Elder Scrolls Online may not be everybody's cup of tea, though content within the game is built with staying power in mind. It's perfectly possible for a game to appeal to various niche tastes but not lose much of its relevance within a week or two. FFXIV's content simply lacks staying power lately - which is a real shame, since the development team were on the right track when it came to POTD/HOH and Eureka. Refining those two types of content to be further improved and more engaging makes more sense to me than scrapping the content altogether or releasing the equivalent very late in the current expansion cycle.

There is so much to accomplish in this game that I doubt you have nothing to do.

You probably need to play another game as a break

The Singularity Reactor was epic the first time.
The Aetherochemical Research Facility was epic the first time.
The Praetorium was... pretty ok the first time.
This game is really good if you don't repeat it much.

Can I get a reason to revisit story locations?
Weekly expedition to Amdapor to recover artefacts.
Daily Halatali score attack challenge against Flames' finest and captive beasts.
Just to spitball some examples.

I'd trade away 80% of the instances if the ones that remained had replay value.
Note some RNG is needed for replay value, can't be exactly the same run every time.
ARF was epic the first time, but how happy are you on the 37th time roulette brings it up? Pull that mob, take a left, stop at the wall, etc. You know how it goes, you've learned it, you play it like working at a production line now. No variation. Ditto for trials, you know how the phases go, you pre-position for the thing you know is about to happen, excepting some minor rng for things like which player gets a target marker.

You've seen this movie, you don't need to still be here. It bribed you back with tomestones or exp. What are past raids worth when they are no longer part of the current tier item level progression? They had a nice story at least and were epic the first time. How many new players want to farm Weeping City or Deltascape V3.0 now, long past their windows of relevancy? There's a giant amount of content in this game but like 97% of it isn't made to last. I think that's what people mean when they complain. They don't have unrealistic expectations about content production, just want a game design philosophy that gets more mileage out of the assets we already have. For every highly repeatable randomised PotD, there's dozens of scripted linear duties that are only great once ever and made with a single player adventure sort of design mentality.

I know you all keep looking for a reason to keep playing but stop. This isn't a time sink like old world mmos just stop playing do the things you want then stop till new stuff comes out. Or take the chance to to do things you didn't want to do if you must log into the game each and every day.

Just add an extra glamour plate slot but make it unlocked with 20k poetics. There, people have something to do, hire me SE.

As if you need a poetics grind to make glamour fill up vast amounts of your time...

I'm also surprised no extra incentive to keep playing was added to help pass the time for the delayed patch. Obviously it isn't SE fault or anything but it would have been a good will gesture for the people that want to keep playing. Double exp, double totem drops, or increased drop rates for Dragon mounts. I don't know, just something. On my server (Ragnarok) PF seems to be extremely quiet and there's very rarely Hades or Cinder Drift mount farms up. Maybe about 3 each in a day, some of which struggle to fill or disband very quickly. There seems to be a general lack of things to do currently as no one wants to bang there head on Cinder Drift for 10+ mins for 1 token and would rather wait for increased drop rates and Hades farma have come and gone and people are just waiting for the mount to be buyable.

On a side note, I really wish they stuck with the idea of 2 per clear for Ruby EX. 10-11 min fight for 1 token is ridiculous or do Hades and clear in 11-12 mins for 2... Just doesn't seem right to me...

The issue isn't the amount of content, but the low replayability of most content in FFXIV. FFXIV is a game that is technically great, but is in dire need of depth to improve its replayability. As an exemple, please find me a level 70 dungeon/trial that couldn't be a level 80 dungeon/trial in FFXIV ? There are none, the gameplay has been virtually the same since heavensward. Gear also has a very limited impact on the capabilities of the classes. Getting gear only increase your raw numbers but doesn't alters the gameplay in the way gear in FFXI, wow or even TESO functions.

The free period of FFXI is actually over atm but getting there during the free period only highlighted how lackluster FFXIV is in some aspect. When getting some piece of gear in a 18 year old game (FFXI) is more exciting than getting any piece of gear in FFXIV, then it should be obvious there is an issue somewhere.

Also I'm not really sure why you mention relics considering your disdain for the skybuilder's points. Most of the meat of relics was just grinding the same content ad nauseum, at least until pyros was released.

Indeed, we can. For the most part at least. I do think SE could invest a lot more back into this game which would naturally allow more content, or increased improvement to what's already offered. But that's a whole separate topic. And more a SE problem than anything the developers could be faulted for.

It isn't so much what passed expansions did but the lack of innovation and depth content has. Take Eureka, for example. The concept of an entire zone dedicated to our relic and exploration is a neat idea. Instead of expanding on that after Anemos, we instead got mobs with insanely bloated HP pools partly because the dev team disliked NM trains. How much better would it have been had quests been added, some form of monster log, mini-bosses that had some mechanics or something. Basically, make Eureka feel like that expansive zone with several different ways to progress your relic or knock of achievements. Deep Dungeon shows you don't have to add much to make content feel better. The higher floors are all the same dungeon trash but the necessary crowd control, priority mobs and etc make it more compelling. So why not expand on it and other content in a similar way? That's what I feel FFXIV lacks.

Don't get me wrong. Everything doesn't need to have some massive scope to it. But think of it this way. If they put more attention on a single niche, it could potentially hold interest beyond its initial patch release so they only have do minor updates next patch and can focus on something else. Going with the above example. That improved Eureka could maybe hold out for two full patches. So when they do things like Ocean Fishing, Perform or other smaller activities. It doesn't feel like the game has no content for people disinterested in those smaller things.

Mythic+ Dungeons fall under that same category. And it's more than a little frustrated when they keep dismissing it for silly reasons like "what if the healer dies!" That's part of the challenge. Although, on that note. Why not take all those healing potions we never use and make them useful? Buff them to properly accommodate our current HP pools and there's your solution to healers dying. They added sustain potions in Deep Dungeon, and Logos action meant you could theoretically run BA without a healer. But ultimately, I think we both agree Mythic+ would be a nice benefit to the game.

As for bringing up the relic. It's more referencing the same problem. Both the Book and Unidentifiable steps were awful but I actually think the concept itself had merit. Imagine if the book phase played out more like Wondrous Tails or Unidentifiable gave a unique currency so ARF spamming wasn't the far and away best option? Both had the core idea of farming old content but trying to encourage variety. They just... tripped pretty badly along the way. I guess what I'm saying is I wish they'd improve on poor implementations instead of abandoning them outright. Admittedly, Blue Mage is somewhat a step in the right direction. After its awful reception in 4.55, they gave it a series of buffs and encouraged more Blue Mage only runs. Ten months is a bit too long getting there but hey, points for effort.

Ultimately, I just want to see more depth. Even if it's something minor.

its not as if he have nothing to do, you can level alts, crafters, get past relics for glamour, farm MGP, raise a racing chocobo, fishing, do the past beatstribes you missed

Sure if you already have done ALL of those and have all collectibles, more tomestones would not change much anyway.

And sure, a little more bonuses due pandemic delay would be nice but you can pass the time as easily without them.

What I would like? more exp points bonus as I am leveling other combat jobs, but certanly dont "need" it

Any more bonus would just be a nice gesture from SE team.
