Field Commander set unobtainable

Please forgive my ignorance, but is anything being done about the field commander's set being practically unobtainable? Seal rock is on rotation in a dead playlist (havent found a game the past four times I've tried, despite queueing for over two hours). The roulette only queues the latest map.

They said Seal Rock and Fields of Glory will be back in the Roulette with 5.3.

Don't bother queuing for now. The three older FL maps will be brought back into the daily queue with 5.3. It will then rotate all four maps on a daily basis.

I still dont understand why we cant have all FL Maps in a randomroulette. That would be, at least in my humble opinion, more fun.

I think it made sense to have Onsal Hakair or whatever new map there is be the one that always shows up for a bit. It's a good way to get feedback, data, let achievement fiends work on their mounts, etc.

However, this has been far too long. Maybe a month or two would have been fine, or maybe every other day or something. 5.15 was in December of last year, so even if 5.3 wasn't delayed it would have meant they intended for this for half a year which is insane because some of the other FL maps are pretty good, with Seal Rock in particular being my fave. People who have started the game and completed Shadowbringers think this is all Frontline is. @~@

Having one type of match per day is a good thing. It makes it so people can learn the matches a lot more easily than if it were 1 out 3 or now 1 out of 4 random chance or cycling etc each time.

Before the rotation feature was about added, the only map that was active was Field of Glory (Shatter). It had the reputation of having the shortest queue times and it became snowball effect from there. The achievements for Borderland Ruins (Secure) and Seal Rock (Seize) were more or less unobtainable. The Frontline roulette didn't really help anything since it places you in whatever map is the most active.

The PvP playerbase in FFXIV isn't big enough in order to keep several separate map queues active. The existing playerbase want the shortest queue times possible and that meant everybody just swarmed the queue for the latest map, Shatter.

The rotation feature forced everybody into the same map, it provided variety to matches and gave newcomers a chance at earning achievements on all maps.

Or they could stop being so short sighted and remove items from maps and just have them tied to wins. They could then add new win achievements without maps to get a bump in participation. But if they haven't learned yet, they never will.

Some of them are just paced for the pvp crowd that are in it for the long haul.

Plus, achievements that cater to people who don't care much for playing PVP itself seem to me to be of questionable value to the PVP community. The short term events like currently with Rival Wings being incentivized are fine because they draw in a lot of people who end up sticking around and playing ~regularly. If all they did was briefly ruin match quality it wouldn't be worth it.

It does sound like the "X wins on Y map" system for the rewards was designed with ensuring people would play on all the maps, not just focus on one.

Now that they've adjusted the system, that's going to be less of a concern, unless there was a pattern of players collectively avoid the roulette when certain maps are active. It could happen.

I honestly miss Seal Rock. Frontline PVP done right was Seal Rock. I LOVED that map. It had an objective that forced you to fight for territory, not just capture the flag or "see who can hit the rock the hardest"

Bases, points by destruction of PvE environment (ice, drones, modules) or full points by 1-time tapping a flag don't enforce players to play PvP much.
Having objectives that enforce players to engage in combat around the objective is compared to stealing PvE objectives a much better way.

They need to stop highlighting the new maps for such a long time, PvP needs diversity. We got PvP frontline roulette only to play the same map for months now. Even if it's new, we don't need to spam the same map every day.

They are already going back to the rotating match of the day system with patch 3.5 in a few weeks.

I kind of see it the other way lately though. The average match quality in Onsal Hakir is pretty high now from people being much more familiar with it. You can still get matches where there seems to be a team full of people who don't get it yet and play it poorly (which tends to be doing a lot of random fighting while they lose objectives), but on the whole the match quality is pretty good now.

So for roulette, I think it might even be good if they had a weekly match and included the Rival Wings maps. So one type of match per week.

Or for roulette, a weekly match and a daily match and alternate them. So if every match is popping for you, you play the weekly match then the daily match etc.

Both would help players get good at the maps. It would also allow people who want specific achievements to focus more on them when the match type is available. Technically they can do that with one map every four days, but that's kind of hard to plan for, being irregular with the day of each match type shifting every week. Also a lot of people can't just play all evening when the match type they want is up, they have a window of time they can play in on all or particular days of the week.

Yeah. Seal Rock is my favourite as well. Does all the right things I like in a map layout: a good objective that involve engagement, asymmetry, good terrain features with plenty of corners, bottlenecks, areas for ambush, highground, etc. Can't wait to get back onto it.

Meanwhile I am not too big on the Shatter game mode on Fields of Glory. A good mid fight can be fun but attacking ice just isn't my bag.
