Safety Dance

So I was running the MSQ with my male roe alt when I got to the mission where I had to dance for the sylphs of Little Solace and I gotta say, the default dance is just, bad. Like really bad. It's just bouncing from one foot to the other. It's not just male roes either. My main is a male hyur midlander and all I get is feet shuffling. How can you even call that a dance?

We get so many other expressive and flamboyant dances through various means throughout the game, so why is our default dance so terrible?

I doubt there will ever be a change, but one can hope.

Male Elezen /dance is also awful. They're not even trying.

I have a male elezen too, but haven't tried the dance yet. Is it only the males that get shafted with the dances? I think it's female au ra that have a fairly expressive dance, though it's been a while so I'm not sure.

Can't speak for all females, but femroes got shafted pretty hard, too. I know it's subjective, but imho the stupid little prance they do seems way off for the race. Ironically, it's my go-to emote if I want a "I'm a prissy little princess" screenshot, though I always have to change the facial expression because.... /shiver

Maybe they were worried that femroe's weren't "girly" enough for their waifu simulator.

Yeah Female miqo'te get a pretty trash dance as well with a limp wrist and four whole twirlies.
Like it's such an unemotive emote that a screenshot of it wouldn't even suggest that you were moving, let alone dancing.

I think it varies, though males are generally worse. It might come down to the motion capture actors and what they could think of doing when told to "do a dance" rather than something choreographed...

From memory, male Au Ra is also a bad dancer (but with a bit more effort) and male Miqo'te is decent.

Female Roegadyn emotes have always seemed like an odd mixed bag to me. Mostly tough but then that very demure bow and the cutesy dance. Though I don't know if the average person would do much else if put on the spot.

I didn't know they used mo-cap for the animations, though I figured if put on the spot most people would do something similar to the Manderville.

I assume it's motion-captured anyway. Some things are and I remember seeing them listed somewhere in the credits, but I don't know how much work they do.

It would make more sense than someone actively deciding to animate those awkward dances, anyway.

I'd say it's just as bad for them to have seen someone "dance" like that and go "that'll do" and add it.

Most of these were made 10 years ago.
I'm just thankful we have multiple dances.

Me too. The Moogle dance has been my new default for a while now.

I tend to go with the Yol dance myself.

I love my lala /dance emote.
The male lala one is good too, but mine is cuter.

Every other race has awful dances.

It seems to me the default dances are supposed to be just a basic dances almost anyone could do.

Yeah I think male Elezen is probably the worst. They do like a weird awkward foot shuffle like someone they don't like told them they had to dance to get to the punch bowl and was like "there, I danced, good enough?"

No... no it isn't.

I do like fem Au Ra, fem Miqo is cute but yeah it's also literally just spinning one way then the other, and while I do like Viera, it is also just spinning with arm movements similar to some dancer abilities.

Some are decent, a lot are meh or bad, and they don't loop. I stick to my unlocked and mog station dances now. :P

You haven't been on these forums long enough or have turned on the news lately.

If you want a god-tier dance, play a female Highlander. If it weren't for Viera being Viera, I'd still be Highlander gal just for that dance alone.

I just wish we had a /cdance like /cpose, to change your default dance from /dance. Any quest that requires you /dance forces you to use the default (in the same "what flexibility?" logic that means you have to match capitalization and lack of punctuation exactly in a lot of Tribe quests that use /say), and it'd be nice if my dance-off with Shakingway wasn't the stupid little twirl. I wanna show him the Moonlift Dance.

I don't mind necros when the thread is discussing an issue (or plot point or whatever) that is still in the same state today as it was when the conversation was held.

It's different when the situation has changed since the discussion was held and the earlier remarks don't make sense any more.

I was just thinking something like that the other day. Either write the quest so that any dance works or something like your /cdance idea.
