Vote to move Server maint's @7PM JP's Standar Time!!!!!!
I thought a hotfix was always done on servers while they are running. Which is why they are called 'hot'.
i'm kind of curious on what has caused the updates to increase in time myself. it was originally 2 hours for patches and 1 hour on emergencies. i'm not really sure what has caused such major delays to extend them this much though.
why they not just turn servers down 30mins to restarted everyone and pop update.... also why always maints @NA time this is creppy
Usually it's EU complaining about maintenance times...
Probably hardware changes because instance lag/down constantly.
yeah Rotate will help. it will put some action into HNM huning also cause no one NA JA EU will have aventajes if each maint is rotate atleast 8hours from his Start time....
It will always be primetime for someone, no matter when they did the maint, and anyway maint is always at this time.
oh man, you cry like babies.
this mean performing changes to server hardware, that's because it takes so long for hotfixes.Quote:
Producer/Director Yoshida here returning to the front lines after fighting against the flu.
Currently, a part of the development and operations team is focused on eliminating the issues with lag in Ul’dah and instanced raids as well as content congestion, prioritizing this work higher than patch 1.22. I deeply apologize for any inconveniences these issues are causing.
Also, in regards to the instanced raid occupancy issue, we have setup a timer on the outside of the instanced raids, and when the timer fulfills certain requirements, the specifications force cancel occupancy. Due to this, there are some instances where the instance numbers will still be reduced even though there are zero players occupying them.
Currently in order to resolve the above issues as well as eliminate the high amount of lag in instanced raids, we will not only be performing system adjustments, but we will also be addressing some underlying things such as server strengthening, so we ask for and appreciate your continued patience.
We are currently working with all our power to resolve these things to make it in time by the weekend peak time.
Also, for all the internet guros here, a rolling restart of servers don't take 30 min :|
Ye know they may end up rotating later on but in it's current state it's much better to have a set time for maintenance rather then revolving it when they are on a strict schedule to push out 2.0. So with what's going on now it's early morning in Japan, not all of the work force is in to work on content for 1.0 and 2.0 so during this calm period they can work to fix the issues going on with the game and then get to work on future content once they are done. If say they did it in the afternoon in Japan like 2pm then it would just ruin the flow of things. They get into work, work on content and other stuff from 6am-2pm, then switch over to maintenance from 2pm-6pm then right back to content again from 6-10pm.
And they can't do it at the end of the day cause I doubt they really wanna work overtime if new issues arise. So if they do it at the start of the day and ends up running over the scheduled time, rather then having to work an extra hour they can deal with it while they are still scheduled. Sure downtime sucks but at least they've been good about weekends lol. And at least they don't seem to have any downtime planned for the Easter weekend.
I fail to understand why people complain about when maintenance is. You can't play something else for a few hours, or read a book or something?
Greetings,
Unfortunately, there are always going to be times when maintenance will impact some regions more than others when running on a global scale. Maintenance is never targeted to disrupt the play of one region over another, so please don't think that it is.
As for the length of the maintenance, while a hotfix is being deployed with the maintenance, there are more critical things that are being addressed at the same time. Please take a look at the update notes here:
That said, I know that it can be frustrating when you want to play and there is maintenance, and we work to ensure to minimize it, but these updates and changes are important. Thank you for understanding in this matter.
what lv are you on RL? like 30? cos RL is borred!!!!!!!!! i want game!!!!!!.....
are you sure? how many patches or hotfixes have been done during jp prime time in the year and a half the game has been out? i'm not a eu player so they come back up close to my prime time, but i can see their point in the fact every single one has been done within their time.
would it be so bad to rotate the times on when they are performed? at least the eu players wouldn't feel like the black sheep that are targeted for every down time.
it's called SE is a multi-million dollar company, get a 2nd and 3rd shift. I play mostly NA eastern time. or -5gmt. Patches are always running into this prime time, starting in the middle of it, or starting at the begining of it.
Back in my day, we had to walk up both sides of the mountain twice before being able to get a connection to the main servers during maintenance, and that was before downloading the 12-hr patch.
Bayohne,
It's not the time more or less of the update but someone there knew exactly when this patch would be implemented and you can't even give us a heads up. Sometimes I wonder about SE but you think you will say "Thank you for understanding in this matter." We don't understand what we do understand is that SE can't even tell us when each patch will be and please don't tell us someone decided at the last second and said hey let's do it NOW.
All we ask is to let us know even if it's 24 hour notice but let us know but it seems to be to much to ask for.
"Maintenance is never targeted to disrupt the play of one region over another, so please don't think that it is."
I would believe this if I actually seen a maintenance in another time zone other than ours.
then don't say it's not targeted against another time zone. like i said it don't impact me because i am not on that time zone, but i can understand the issue they see. don't say something when that it, in fact, exactly what is being done. just come out and say it's always done at this time because this is when the staff is working and is the most logical time. that's the issue of why it is done that way and i understand that, but don't come out with a lie about it. just state the truth and you get alot more respect from me, but i have zero respect for a lie.
edit: after looking at your ignorant post again let me explain to you that there is something called reading comprehension and you may want to look into it. when someone states they are not on the time zone being affected and that it doesn't go into theirs then it would very possibly mean that person is not having their playtime bothered so they are not asking for anything that is related to them.
That should be common sense tho If anyone thinks the dev teams works 24 hrs a day are just plain stupid. I assume 90% of the ppl here have jobs they know people have work times etc. So what i am saying is are they that dumb that they can not understand that this si the best time to do them, but alas i realize this is the FFXIV forums and the folks here aint playing with a full deck.
can't you guys just get drunk and pass out for four hours like normal losers
Maintanence was always 10am-12pm in New Zealand but this one is 9am-1pm. Works perfectly usually, because I'm normally in class then. And when I'm not, maintanence gives me a reason to leave my computer and enjoy at least some of the day. I get that it's a pain for EU players though, but I highly doubt they're doing it just to piss you guys off. I know i wouldn't want to have to get up at 4am to start working on a maintanence, just so it wasn't such an inconvenience to some of the other players. Go do something for a few hours, it'll be good for you :)
Because right now, it's 7am in Tokyo. STUPID-MAD HOURS, BRO!
They could easily do updates per region, too. Bring down the US servers before or after primetime (or in the AM), then do the EU servers, then do the JP servers. From what I've noticed, most other games with international servers do it like that. Looking at the time differences, the only difficulty would be the EU servers, I suppose, but then I've seen them taken down with US servers as well.
I'm going to assume there's -some- staff who are there overnight to at least call the people who bring down/up servers in case of an emergency or moderate to some extent. It's not too out of line, considering the game/servers and all the other hardware runs 24/7.
Thursday's are my day off and maintenance always falls on this day, while I mind; its life. I don't expect people to stop playing when I don't feel like getting on. They have maintenance when its convenient for them. If it brings 2.0 faster or smoother I'm all for it. Stop being selfish the world does not revolve around you. The patches are for helping make the game better and they are responding to people's complaints so be grateful they are listening instead of ignoring the problems. If they wanted they could just ignore all problems and say it will all be better when 2.0 comes out. No lag then just hang tight. They are trying to fix problems for us too.
If you are this upset over not playing a silly game for four hours, either move to another timezone or try to accept that the world does not revolve around you.
North America is 5 time zones wide, plus Hawaii. And the Maintenance should end at 9PM EDT which is a little before usage peaks. So stop fretting and watch TV or see a Movie or something.
Right and that's normal work hours you dumb ass, what time do you propose they do their work so everyone is happy, oh you know what? There is no time. Simple fact is maint's gonna happen and its gonna stop you from playing for a few hours get over it. also you can't do updates by region when its global game your pretty smart there bro!
Oh wait, nevermind...I just realized there's only one dedicated "international" server...for EU.
Well, still. I like the previously mentioned alternating downtime pattern.
They could prolly delay the EU server, but the other ones basically alternate between two 12 hour differences. They do it 6PM their time one day, then 6PM ours on another. Better yet, 12 o'clock seems to work better, if you base it on Pacific time.
I guess EU still gets screwed, lol.
Haha, don't worry about it, just wondering if he had some theory to back that up. But hey, you never know, I certainly don't, maybe there is a way.
For the rest of complainers, you are certainly entitled to voice your opinion but please at least try to bring a compelling argument to the table. After experiencing the level of service we've received form Yoshi and crew this past year, you would think twice about saying "They do this just to piss customers". EU players are the minority (They have their own recommended server) so the impact to all customers during maintenance is felt less if done in their prime time.
