Report them. They actually do ban/warn people if caught, so whenever you see someone doing it report it to the mods and it'll get handled.
theyre doing the opposite of wasting your time. why are you getting mad at someone saving you minutes of a run?
It's an exploit, so they can be warned/suspended for it. The problem is proving it. You can report them, but unless they outright say it in chat, it's unlikely to actually go anywhere.
I usually take a screenshot as I zone out of the cutscene to show whose on the boss, how low it's health is, as well as a screenshot while in the cutscene to show skipping is happening because all the bosses in there dialogue vomit during the fights. Then present that in my report after uploading it to discord to create a link and or just use gyazo. Generally has worked pretty well for me.
How much of a skip are we talking? Several seconds or the whole cut scene?
you guys really love the taste of boot
Says the person trying to encourage people to do something that will get them banned. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Don't like how the roulette is now? Don't do it. I don't unless I need that extra EXP boost and my day isn't ruined because of it. However for the love of all that is holy don't expect people not to clap back when you're arguing about something that can literally add a permanent strike to someone's record.
i dont even run the roulette, i have everything at 80 and the other rewards are pathetic. and im not encouraging anyone to do anything. i asked why you'd be so upset at someone doing something to save you time during your roulettes that you feel compelled to report them for doing it.
you cant even give a reason beyond "the tos!!!"
I mean... Yeah, but you also gotta respect the fact that the game has been out for 7 years, and perhaps maybe they need to rework those instances to have a cutscene play out before and then after so it doesn't become impossibly boring for people. The whole point of increasing those rewards was to incentivise people to replay them. I want to help newer players too, and I would with MSQ stuff, if I didn't have to sit through a TV show worth of CS every time.
I skip cut scenes it saves me and the group time. People are free to watch the cut scenes they properly will just not see much of the fight that is all.
This again? Wasn't this JUST a topic?
You. Can. Get. Banned. For. Skipping. The. Cutscenes. Even a minimal chance is STILL a chance; why even risk it?
Even just for a second. It is still against the ToS. I'm just mindblown by how nobody understands this. It's as if people literally go, "Eh, I got it away with it this time. It will never happen to me."
And as for the quoted poster, how does this save time? I can understand if a whole party does it (maybe even 4), but 1? That seems like a waste of time to me.
If people don't want to waste the time, why do they even do it? Because of Poetics? Exp? YOU HAVE SEVERAL OTHER OPTIONS FOR THAT!
Might just be my luck, but often times I end up with groups where half the group often skips the cut scenes. Sure it is against the ToS. but if SE does not enforce it people will keep on doing it. Might be because where I live but I view it like no smoking signs on my campus we have them but most ignore them due to the lack of enforcement.
This will be one of those things that SE will have a hard time enforcing. Sure people have several options, but it falls along the same lines as why anyone does anything because they want to.
More power to ya I guess. I don't know if this is truly a significant problem to warrant an extreme action, but I wouldn't risk it.
I guess my personal pet peeve is the hand-waving of the reason it was introduced in the first place. I got use to it after awhile, but I totally can understand the frustration of running these dungeons back in the day, only to be completely lost to what was going on.
Be careful who you report (if you do) some people actually have internet problems and get disconnected. It happened to me a few times this week while farming Prae and Castrum.
I'd hate to get banned for something I didn't do !
Ha. I've seen that before. It is pretty funny.
The final thing I'll say about this topic is this. I hear what you're saying because I hear it all the time in my line of work.
I'm not advocating for "breaking the rules" or anything like that. You're old enough to make the decision for yourself. Do whatever makes you feel right. Just feels like a stupid risk to risk years of an account you spent time into.
But ultimately, these players knew the consequences set before them and decided to go against them. Based on what I read in this topic, they like to act as if "they're saving time for new players" which is the biggest load I've ever heard; it never was about the new players, it was only about them.
That's just the thing about reports. There are times when you simply cannot prove if someone is actually doing wrong.
Like emote spam.
It's spam, but a surprising amount of people do not know you can turn off emotes in the chat and have been playing since the start of ARR. I do not think anything short of, "I am disconnecting right now to skip this cutscene, please look forward to it." Will be solid proof unless they are doing it /every/ cutscene and it is logged.
Having gotten though those dungeons last week while leveling it didn't feel that bad. But I guess if you're doing them everyday it can drive people to look for ways to skip sadly.
Not everyone wants to completely "turn off" emotes. I want to see emotes, just not spammed ones.Quote:

Interesting. Hope this catches up in Light as well
But that's the thing. People (when experiencing the dungeon as the grand finale of the story) don't just want to watch the cutscenes. They want to experience the fights as well.
That was the whole issue with people not waiting. You are forcing the new player to choose between seeing the story or participating in the fights.
Again, whether you personally enjoyed it or not, the dungeon is set out like a movie. There are talking scenes and fighting scenes. You don't force people to watch one or the other. Either on its own will make for an unsatisfying experience where they are missing out on a part of the whole.
You're not helping them by "saving them time" if they want to spend that time experiencing the dungeon.
There's no misunderstanding on my end. You're saying that people can turn off emotes in the chat to prevent spam; I'm saying not everyone wants to turn off these emotes in the chat and would still like to see emotes that aren't spam without just dropping a nuke on all emotes. Your post was a non-solution.Quote:
Maybe you misunderstood me, or I'm misunderstanding you. I'm talking
/em slaps <t>
/em slaps <t>
/em slaps <t>
being the problem and people not knowing they can disable it to just do the motion itself.
What would be at least a passable solution would be the act of blacklisting also stopping you from seeing/hearing a person's emotes, but obviously that one's up to SE to make happen. I already know that fairly recently I tried to blist someone who was spamming emotes and it had no effect.
To be fair, unless you log back on, notice everyone else is still trapped in the cutscene and proceed to lay waste to the boss while they're still inside no one would even notice you got disconnected and reconnected and accidentally skipped it. That and SE can see for themselves who was engaged with the boss while others were still going through the majority of the cutscene through their own records.
Never said I was out to help them in the strictest sense. I queue for the roulette and will do everything in my power as a healer or tank to make sure the run is successful that is as far as my help goes within a roulette. Is that the intended purpose of mindset? I do not know, nor do I honestly care. SE barely enforces their rules, and if by some slim chance I do get action taken against my account I highly doubt it would lead to anything worse then a temporary suspension.
In the end I am of the mindset of let the group choose what happens. If people want to skip cut scenes so be it, one of two people is not enough to kill the boss without letting someone take part, and honestly with how over geared we are for the content the whole take part for the experience does not hold much water since the fights barely tickle.
Though if they did start to punish people for skipping cut scenes would be interesting to see how many people would still end up doing the roulette.
If it was a simple adjustment, they would have done it already. Not only do I suspect revamping both into solo dungeons would take considerable time, it'd also shift work away from current content. In fact, that was a big reason they weren't implementing flying in ARR. The only reason it happened now is, apparently, the dev team did it on their free time.
So, there's skipping the cut scene and there is making it shorter by setting your client to...I think german? Maybe french. It makes the cut scenes shorter and you can engage the boss before people in english finish watching the cut scene. So, be careful if you do report people because they might be running the game in a different language and that is 100% allowed.
