I kinda wish they had the option to request for a Duel PvP anyone in the world without having to queue for PVP instance Or not just at Wolves' Den Pier. But anywhere in the world. Like in many other MMOs.
Any class/job vs any class/job.

That would get annoying real fast. I'm glad it doesn't exist
I want a DoH PvP tournament.
Want to root for goldsmiths after seeing what Godbert can do but sadly ARM would destroy the others with their superior vitality and strength stats.
That would get annoying. Add in an auto-ignore challenge feature and add high-risk stakes/rewards and it could prove entertaining. Think of all the RP opportunities!
Nah it would easily work just like party invites. Where u have to be on a main jobs. Like u can easily be spammed with party requests or friend request already anyways...it’s just in the nature of online games. Level wouldn’t matter. Just keep it like the currents duel but just without having to be at wolve’s Den. It is pretty fun in other MMOs, and it’s not like an openworld pvp. It’s just request for duel.
I think that'd be a great idea, though there has to be some limitations. So many silly people honestly believe they'd get challenged to no end, thinking an option to not accept duels in the first place wouldn't be a thing. What is a legitimate concern would be the lag induced from potentially many players dueling in already crowded areas. There should be a restrictions that limit duels to outside city limits OR designate an area within cities for duels.
There's a reason I don't play those 'many other MMOs'. The PvP anywhere stuff always drove me away from the game. I'd rather them just keep it the way it is. If I want to kill my friends it'll be either at the Wolves Den, or in a 24 man where I rescue them to their doom.
If implemented with forethought and care, there's no reason to deny the idea. No one is going to hold a gun to your head to accept a duel you don't want to take. If anything, it would be a change that doesn't affect you in the slightest and only increases the game appeal.
That would be even more chaotic. The city-states have peace, for the most part. It'd be pretty lore breaking to just suddenly have combat everywhere in town.
I wouldn't mind a few more square dueling circles around the world, just to give some variety of backgrounds to duels. But other than flavour it's not very substantial.
GL fighting against a tank or healer
*5h later* still no winner.
First there must be a huuuuuge change in this unbalanced pvp system ;)
Only if invination to it will be somewhere in the corner without popping up so it could be completely ignored without any additional actions. With, preferably, ability to set a toggle for rejecting duel invintations by default (this one is optional). Otherwise - no, thanks. Random party invintations can be annoying as it is.
I like how duel works in DC Universe Online and Borderlands 2. It’s quick and no menus. I wish we could randomly duel with players anywhere. While waiting for someone to finish a cutscene in a dungeon or in a city. Of course have an option to turn off duel if player don’t want to duel.
Duel doesn’t have to be major. I would want it for quick pass time or random battles with people in the city.
What if we get to play a quick rock paper scissors type of minigame with other players instead. I agree there should be a way to resolve an argument on the spot, but pvp is hardly fair with how the jobs are balanced.
I don't wanna see full open world pvp unless the devs design a world per data centre strictly allowing it.
However I would actually be fine with them adding designated dueling zones to each major city.
-Limsa, Upper Decks, on top of the tower above the airship docks.
-Gridania, Old Gridania below the leatherworkers guild
-Ul'Dah, obvious coliseum is obvious
-Ishgard, Temple Knights training grounds
-Idyllshire, top left corner past the hard place
-Kugane, Shimisegumi barracks just extend it a little
-Doman Enclave, add it past the fields
-Crystarium, wide open space between pendants and stairs to Crystal Exarch
-Eulmore, Vauthry's throne area.
Could add achievements like
-win 100/200/300 times in an area 100/300 for titles like 100 having Ul'Dah's rising star and 300 having Ul'Dah's Finest, 200 for an area specific minion
-win as <insert job here> 100/200/500 times, 100/500 having titles like 100 having <insert job here> duelist of the rose and 500 having Master <insert job here> , 200 having job specific minion based on the artwork of said job.
-Could also have mount rewards for getting 200 wins in every area and one for 200 wins on every job, can be reskins of the very old ranked pvp mounts like a completely black Hoarhound or a yellow magitek conveyer.
Just an idea I ran with XD
Not going to lie. When I first saw the Coliseum in Uldah during 1.0 I was hoping it would be like an open viewing arena to watch people (players) fight. You could place bets and such. Nope... but it would be cool to use it for just simple PVP matches
As for Ishgard, they could actually make use of the Chocobo Proving ground for PvP.
The game actually has a lot of unused spots in the cities that could be used for friendly PvP and such.
I would not mind as long as these limitation are in place.
1. Option to automatically refuse duel invites
2. Must happen outside of cities.
3. Duel invites cannot be issued with in fates or with in 40 yrds of hunts.
4. Cannot be issued to those who are in combat, crafting or gathering.
5. Attacks of dueling players have no effects on any npc's in the present area. Npc's will not aggro onto dueling players..
6. Dueling players cannot be targeted by other players. Players who are close to the duel will get a party like window showing the dueling players HP, buffs etc.
ESO proved that just having 'anywhere' duel pvp is a bad idea - their cities, merchant area's and tp places get spammed with duel's & duel request's. It's annoying, irritating and obtrusive. Fact is most ppl have to resort to addon's to auto-decline duel invites, as they get spammed like crazy by some ppl.
However, I would 100% be behind SE adding specific duel-pvp arena's to every major city for those who do want to duel. This would make it easier for them to get duel's going, and give them more vareirty of scenery while dueling. Have the ability to send duel request's limited to the duel area's only, no other place - I got sick and tired of ppl trying to duel-spam me in ESO when question, gathering, etc and all the PM's insulting me and calling me coward, wuss, etc because I was auto-declining their duel spam (leading me to add them to my block list as well).
Would be cool if the existing PvP modes get more maps before we give nonexisting PvP modes 1000 tons more resources than the whole addon had yet.
ESO has an built-in auto-decline option (that was true since they added the duel function), no need for addon. Also on my megaserver (PS4/EU) duels mostly shifted to some common areas (most just outside the city gates next to the Undaunted enclave, some spots in the desert, etc). Sure there are always idiots who dueled next to wayshinres, but that was not common.
I personally would rather see some more public duel spaces without the need to travel to the Wolves Den instead.
It's a great idea provided it's completely optional. As in a setting that's automatically turned on at release and has to be manually disabled that fully blocks any PvP duel request. Also restrict it to outside major hubs and cities. Then by all means, go nuts with it.
You're being overly optimistic about it. Nothing has been implemented perfectly and is constantly getting worked on, but the more of these smaller things that are added to the game, the less the main content will actually get. We're down to a pittance of dungeons per major patch now, and there's a good chance we won't be getting the 5.X version of PoTD/HoH.
They keep revamping old things to try to make it 'current content', but a lot of it does feel recycled.
I don't think it would work well in this game due to the hard separation between pve and pvp abilities, and the lack of gear scaling. WoW for example has some extra pvp talents/abilities, but for the most part classes function the same. A duel in the outside world in FF would mean taking away the pve toolkit you have out there and swapping it with the pvp one on the fly.
My dancer has 93k hp. When I zone into a pvp area I have 15k hp as one example of the wonkiness at play here swapping between them.
We already could annoy people with triad challenge or trade box, and there is none who does that, so whats the problem? ToS already covers virtually everything so you could just report the annoying people if they spam it, the "issue" is a non issue.

Dueling in the main cities or anywhere else would be such a cool idea, im all for it.
It could or could not be an issue, who knows. But considering people have abused and spammed features in the past (ready checking constantly even in the middle of battle making Crystal Tower a constant nightmare before they patched it out sometime in 2.x), there's also zero harm in implementing a "this must be manually enabled, and anyone with it disabled cannot be duel-requested" feature either to stop potential abuse before it even begins and save people the time to report.
That being said, I'd be of the personal opinion to keep it out of the cities, or create a dueling ring in each city. Out in the zones is fine though.
Guys, really ?
