Why are you so obsessed with crossovers...?
To make this short: No, thank you. Not intrested in crossovers, specially not from games that are not even closely connected in any way or form to FFXIV.
Crossovers take months if not longer to prepare and setup, its not something they can pull out of their hat in a few days. To top that off, there already making an FF VII crossover and struggling with the delays that COVID-19 are putting on their team. If anything, I'd expect to see fewer crossovers than more, at least for now.
The only crossover I want is with Chrono Trigger. Needs me an Epoch mount!
I'd be less interested in a crossover and more interested in minions or housing plush decorations of some of the famous Animal Crossing characters. Maybe some Orchestrion music?
there has to be a point to having a crossover and it usually takes around a year in advance to plan out.
No thanks. Not even remotely interested in that.
Ugh why animal crossing? I'd much rather see Nioh are whatever
While not outside the realm of possibility due to other crossovers we've had, extremely unlikely to happen. Also I'd argue internal world consistency wouldn't mesh well with Animal Crossing's aesthetics but after Yo-Kai Watch and some of our minions/mounts in general flying in the face of that internal logic I can't say that outright makes it an automatic dismissal.
You got a problem with Animal Crossing?! :p
The MHW crossover began its planning before either game was even released. Yoship said as much in a recent live letter - Him and the the MHW director are good friends and always wanted to do a crossover between two of their projects, whatever they were in the end.
Nier? I wouldn't really call it a "crossover" when you consider that Nier hasn't gotten anything FF14 themed - The Nier raids is more like Nier themed content than it is a crossover, especially as the Dark Apolcypse storyline is canon, supposedly.
All the others? Actual CROSSOVERS or in otherwords the game got something from it too.
What do you want out of this crossover? Raubahn as a villager in your town in animal crossing?
Come on...
Hmm. Maybe a crossover would get me interested in Animal Crossing.
Animal Crossing Crossover? Try saying THAT 10 times fast. Bonus points if you can say it as fast as those critters can speak.
Imagine making them with one's own IP, instead of ripping them from another. You know, like... most IPs?
Ultimately, if the devs decide increasing housing items would be what's best at the time for getting more profits in the foreseeable future, they'll add more. If not, then we're not going to get something that amounts mostly just to what wasn't worth adding.
too different genre, no thank you
As an absolute lover of Animal Crossing, this is a horrible idea and shouldn't happen.
how about a tetris crossover with tetris furniture pieces you can stack on top of each other.
Seems like a weird crossover, but I wouldn't knock it, seeing how there's bound to be others that enjoy it. On a side note we should be due for a phantasy star online crossover sometime in April or so I assume. Finally coming to the US so may as well make whole on the crossover idea from back when PSO2 got their XIV Crossover. They have a ton of amazing emotes over there, along with outfits. I don't see the outfits really making it but at least some of their dancing emotes maybe?
There is nothing inherrently wrong with crossovers or with borrowing from other games (technically, Nier wasnt a crossover, because nothing went "over" so to speak).
But to me that doesnt mean we should just suggest a bunch of different games and see what sticks - an event for DoL/DoH (...something maybe... like... rebuilding a city...?) sure, I'm all for that. But a crossover with the reason "They didnt get one yet!" seems silly to me.
With crossovers theres also always the question: Does the game fit into FFXIV from a lore- and design-perspective? Monsterhunter and Nier do that - at least in my opinion. I suppose you could argue that we're having gardens and are apparently supposed to get farms at somepoint (so lore would be covered) but the whole artstyle of Animal Crossing is way different than FFXIV. Personally I wasnt a fan of Yokai and Dragonquest crossovers for the same reason (and I rarely see people using the pets and glamours from those two).
I'd also consider wether or not its a crossover the devs want to do - maybe this sounds weird, but my reason is that I trust the devs to pick things that they believe they can incoroprate into Eorzea (or things they WANT to incorporate) and by having them pick its assured that nothing will stick out to much.
As fun as FFXIV is: I dont want it to become a melting pot of everyones favorite non-FF game.
(And as a sidenote: With all the money, work and planning that goes into crossovers and all the legal bs behind them, I'd rather not have them at all - look at Garo and Yokai: Those things have been designed, modelded etc. and now they cant be obtained anymore, not even in the mogstation - why? Contracts have ended.)
No. And double no being that it's a Nintendo IP.. so extra no on that one. I rather have more SE ips anyway. Chrono Cross please?
Why has there to be a crossover whenever a new game is released?
I mean, there doesn't and there usually isn't. Nothing wrong with making a suggestion though, within reason. I'd consider most crossover event requests to be within reason. Chances are nothing will come of it but people have nothing to lose by putting it out there. This one wouldn't really be for me, but I'd just shrug my shoulders and move on with my life.
I don't see that technicality as making it "not a crossover". FFXIV is playing host to a crossover story with elements of FFXIV and elements of NieR in it. Whether NieR hosts a reciprocal crossover with FFXIV seems irrelevant - particularly when it is a stand-alone published game.
So. Much. This.
This is why I've been wary of the NieR crossover from the start. It's created a whole extra level of the extent to which they will bring non-FF titles into the game. We've gone from temporary events to permanent self-contained events with a short excuse plot (Monster Hunter) to this large-scale storyline and an entire alliance raid series, which is more than some actual FF crossovers have gotten. Where does it stop now, and how many more parts of this game will be a patchwork of other games? At least stick to the scope of using FF games.
If you want to play Animal Crossing, go play Animal Crossing. If you want to play Doom, go play Doom. Enjoy them in their own games. Bringing them here doesn't necessarily make this game any better.
They're already a thing at this point so they might as well continue - especially since they're a part of the appeal of the game for a portion of the community.
Would have I liked FFXIV to be its own thing with crossovers being limited only to other Final Fantasy titles? Sure. Yet we've been past that point for years now.
World of Warcraft began leaning too heavily on pop culture references and increasingly silly/contrived plot points a while back. I stopped playing when it became too much. I'll likely do the same in regards to FFXIV if things get too dire...but until then, the crossovers haven't been too jarring and have fit in with the rest of the game fairly well.
Although it's not heavy on the story, don't forget Palace of the Dead has been here for a very long time already, so Nier isn't really the first time they've brought something non-FF and made it part of the game's lore. There's also the level 60 and level 69 armor (Valerian and Xenobian sets) that also come from Tactics Ogre.
Ugh. I tried to forget Palace of the Dead because it was a really poorly integrated crossover out of nowhere that seemed to be setting up a plot, because I didn't have the context of it being a crossover - but when I read into it, it was more like a story endpoint for that character? How should I know or care what this is if I haven't played the other game?
Was there anything past Floor 100? I was of the understanding that it was pure gameplay challenge beyond that point.
Why not a Doom Eternal Crossover instead?
Doom Guy takes on Sin Eaters instead of Demons...
Or open up World of Darkness and fill it with Voidsent for Doom Guy to just rage at.
Or Doom Guy enjoys a charming tea party with Nanamo and shows his softer side.
Or all 3, let's go with all 3.
id much rather doom but they reference animal crossing during the event
Oh god, what if, instead it be their April fools this year. Doom Eternal x Animal Crossing x Final Fantasy XIV. That’d I’d get behind.
Why not both? World boss fate where the WoL, Isabel and Doomguy have to defeat a gigantic demonic/evil froggy chair!
We are probably getting an FF7RE crossover which we probably wont see b4 2021[specially with our new friend corona around]
im not interested in AC tbh, Nioh tho id take it. Since they used Yoshis face as a preset of some sort as well, plus it has interesting bosses.
isabelle plush or minion if this ever happened
Still waiting for our half of the PSO2 crossover. They got their part.
Crossovers take away development time thatcouldshould be spent on content related to FFXIV. The MHW was well done, and I doubt you'll find many that would say it wasn't, but it's still not FFXIV related.
I'm not opposed to crossovers from other FF titles. We have 12 Stars in the lore, it's not entirely unreasonable that each one could have evolved in ways that led to each respective FF title. But those are all Final Fantasy, not some other franchise.
I'd rather not see crossovers at all, though.
