So I tried the new crafting and while I was expecting it to be a bit harder, this is on another level entirely.

So you came up with 42?
I just gather random stuffs, sell them, and use the money from it to buy the things that I actually need to make something.
Yeah..not really worth it tbh unless you really need that mount. I harvested about 200k worth of mats, thought to sell t but decided to try the scratch tickets. Made 10 things, traded them in and even went on the guaranteed 2-4 rarity. What did I win? 2 grade V mATERIA and some moogle tchotchke. Sold those for a whopping 10k Gil.
Yeah no. I will just grind and sell my mats from here on.
Easier to just gather if want everything not in the scratch cards, just focus star items if got a Miner/Bot 80 & just kill the mob that drops +20 like for miner kill the Titan looking Golems only, I make around 3K scrips a full lockout.
Seems pretty fun to me.
I honestly hope they keep this style of recipe going into the future because it makes having good gear a lot more beneficial and also hopefully makes it impossible for people to automate the crafting of items with bots due to the amount of forethought that's needed to reliably max out the quality.
You can't macro these as you have to take advantage of conditions if you want to succeed.
We already know macros don't work, but bots aren't out of the question because they aren't locked into a single sequence of actions like a macro and already vary skill usage based on item quality (Mostly for the sake of not botching crafts by using byregot's under poor condition)..
I've done the expert crafting for a while and I can't say I'm a fan. I'm able to do it successfully about 1/3-1/4 times and while that seems alright, it's not exactly a thrill. It takes a few tries to figure out what you should be doing and by then you realize you have almost no control over how things are going to turn out. The scrips are negligible compared to when you just macro the lower-tier item and... well, much like 'Whose line is it anyway', the point don't matter.
All in all it just makes me glad the crafting that matters is entirely macroable. Getting your materials wasted because of bad luck out of your control sounds like it'd be a nightmare if you're trying to make something that sells for 2 million gil. It'd work a bit better if they let you see what the next 4/5 step conditions are going to be coming up (Like normal>good>normal>sturdy>pliant, etc) it'd be less about hoping and more about planning.
I guess it'd keep a lot of people out of 'true endgame' crafting but how many people are going to be buying the latest gear if they cost 8m gil a piece to make up for the materials lost?
Well to be fair, you don’t necessarily have to do these expert recipes as theY are optional. Master recipes have such a laughable difficulty, it is basically just spamming macros while watching Netflix. I’m glad they have two barriers. One for people that want challenges and one for people that just want to casually craft. That’s how it should be.
I... I'm well aware. I even said it does not matter in the slightest. I'm expressing my opinion of this entirely optional content. RNG as a 'challenge' isn't my idea of a challenge. It's like a crane game. I fully understand the concept behind pliable reducing CP usage means use big CP skills to maximize its use. But there have been times I've gotten 7 pliables in a craft, and times I've gotten 1.
And I'm not going to ask them to change it either. It works for what it is. I'm just saying I'm glad this isn't what day-to-day crafting turned out to be.
As an aside, for anyone having trouble, keep in mind that waste not II, patient touch and rapid synthesis are a thing.
Honestly, I'm not too thrilled with the expert crafting. It's just RNG-heavy hasty touch and observe spam while waiting for procs and hoping you get lucky. Yay.
