I wish she would too #nomorefakeoutdeaths
True. The minfilia modish is another one. It's like a light pink, so it is extremely difficult to get anything to actually match. I'd probably buy the Y'shtola set for the little finger armor/boots. At least it is a fairly neutral black/grey.
Unfortunately, all the NPC sets don't dye. It's really dumb— some of them would look gorgeous with other colors.
I hope they change this someday.
It's a really strange design choice for sure.
I assume it's a development thing with the pieces simply not being designed to dye in the first place thus requiring a texture rework to add that.
Even if the process of creating a dyeable texture is quite a bit more work than making one that isn't, you'd think that the extra sales would handily offset that development cost, especially as even outside of the body pieces, many of the minor parts are really neat glamour options in their own right. I wonder if SE appreciate how many people buy an NPC set just for the hair, shoes or such.
I've heard people say, though I don't know the source, it's done to preserve the 'iconic' look of the outfits/npcs. Which baffles me because the same restriction doesn't apply when they add outfits from OTHER games, like Cloud, Squall, Lightning etc.
I'm sure it's a bit of extra dev time to make outfits dyable but I'd gladly pay more for a mog station character outfit to be dyable to compensate.
Considering there are certain.. alterations available in certain places, this is a weak excuse. They're clearly able to be made dyeable with relative ease - I feel like, as you said, the increased number of sales would surely offset any modicum of extra work that may have to go into making dye channels.
At this point, I truly do think SE doesn't realize we ask for NPC costumes specifically for the glamour ability, not because we want to cosplay.
This is where I would ask for the outfit to be made dyeable too.
If SE had actually let me wear the darn thing.
No, I'm not surprised they kept it gender locked. Still hurts that it is though.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if SE's decision regarding the lack of dyeability had everything to do with wanting to 'preserve the aesthetic' of the items in question. We know SE can dye them - Alma's outfit being the perfect example due to the flashbacks during that particular questline that had her past self wearing a red version of the dress. And we know from modders that it isn't necessarily hard to adjust the color maps for the textures. So unless SE is just that incredibly lazy, which to be fair is possible, I have to wonder if they are just being bullheaded about the outfits being changed aesthetically and think that most of the player base will be happy with just the ability to cosplay as Kaoru speculated above. Which is kind of moronic in an MMO, where everyone is going to want more options especially on items they pay for, but I can't see why SE would be intentionally gimping their sales potential otherwise.
Nooo not my Y’shtola!!
The outfit in Mogstation should be dyeable tho..i was gonna get the Hien outfit the other day until i saw it wasn’t dyeable.. like common..
I don't think she's the face of the game either (derplander probably gets that title), but...she's very much linked with it. I don't care for her so much personally in the game, but I will say back in 1.0, I absolutely loved the Limsa intro with her. Her shield tossing skills were quite impressive even back then. :3
Yes! It's pretty annoying. With Minfilia's Modish again for example, there are a lot of things that would look great with it, but no matter how close you can get with a dye it just isn't good enough. Completely ruins glamour potential. Honestly, I regret buying that set in particular. I don't use it.
The default dye for the boots got it right and no off colors to shift focal points. Not my style though..
I wish earrings among all things could be dyable, I mean the ones where dying would make sense.
It'll probably happen at some point.I don't see how a permanent death can be prevented unless they drag out her existence for a long as the game is active lol.She is using her aether to see after all and it's draining her life force as a result.
Then maybe they should stop teasing it...
seriously:
2.55: Explodes herself and thancred into the lifestream, presumed dead
3.0: Told by Matoya that her aether powers are slowely killing her
4.0: Is struck down by Zenos, teased as her dying
5.0: Is killed in the ronkan ruins, only to be brought back by Emet Selch
Thats a whole lot of fake out
Don't you dare touch my Y'Shtola!
She's way too much fun to be killed off. Esp her voice acting.
I feel like the title of the thread is unfortunately going to end up derailing this discussion into a completely different one - but the topic of dyeable NPC attire is one we really need to push more than we do. It's been years at this point, and the same complaint comes up every time they release something new, but not enough of a stink is made about it to possibly attract attention. :/
Ah, well this certainly went a different direction than I thought it would. Was going to chime in by saying that I think 'Shtola is the dues ex machina queen, and is unkillable.
But yeah, her gear along with many others that cost real money should be dyable.
That seems like a copout excuse, considering the original Allagan, and high allagan gear was NON-dye-able and yet, we have craftable versions now that are dye-enabled. And they repeated the process for all gear after that with each of the tome gear having upgrade parts to allow dye-able pieces. They could copy the text format and code it the same way they've done with every other piece of gear in the game.
Also, I'm more surprised that they added Yshtola's outfit RIGHT AFTER the expansion first part ended, but Yotsuyu's outfit isn't available. I was expecting yshtola's outfit to be available after the next expansion releases, kinda like they did with Hiei's outfit, and Kryle's.
I find it kinda odd they let people pay money to copy an NPCs unique outfit but not customize them in any way so they aren’t straight rip-offs.
As much as I want it as well, Yoshi-P has a policy of not releasing outfits for characters that are villains. On top of that I don’t believe Yotsuyu’s outfit would work for PCs due to its length while remaining slim. There would be some wonky stretching when running or DRK pose. Maybe one day we can get the Yotsuyu/Koh smoking emote.
I wish she'd die too. She almost dies every expansion, so eventually someone should succeed.
Couldn't agree more. She's such a boring character only liked by weebs and the Japanese base purely because of her voice actress being Ai Kayano and she never does anything. And yes they kill off other characters that people love but she gets a constant I'm immortal free pass because everyone butt licks her uninteresting self.
I don't care about your stupid sassy quips woman, actually start doing things.
She is a popular character and practically the poster child of FFXIV outside of Derplander. However the non dyable aspect of these outfits really grind my gears which is why I do not buy the NPC outfits for that sole reason.
After Dissidia NT, they should seriously go ahead and lift the restriction.
