Valentione 2020 Phase 2

Hi, everyone.

So the Valentione event 2020 ended today and I was really upset after watching Meoni's video and realizing that I had missed the quest added after voting had concluded and I had thus missed the achievement too despite actually participating in the event :( I was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation as me and what their thoughts are about this. To be honest, I'm a bit angry at this because I'm used to being done with the event after finishing it, so missing the achievement for this event has left me really bitter. I either didn't quite understand that there would be more quests later, or I had forgotten about it altogether. I really wish we had gotten the achievement after voting instead of finishing the additional quest. I know there have been instances where SE had done additional quests after we had gotten the achievement.

So what do you guys think?

I think they put an announcement on the chat log every time you log in. As you said meoni done a video on it a week ago. And the general curiosity of you taking part in the vote, there must be an outcome.
It is what it is I guess.

I won't lie; I didn't pay attention to the purple message you get when you log in. I guess I just assumed it was still saying the same thing, and I haven't been on much lately. I also thought that the vote was only for the decoration. As for Meoni, it was his "FFXIV: Valentiones Day Post Mortem" video that I saw earlier. I don't recall hearing about this in any of his other videos that I watched. If it was a tea time video, I kinda don't watch them ^^;

Either way, sorry you missed out but its on you sadly.

The idea was great on paper, but not so great with its execution. I don't think it should have been postponed for so long. Maybe day 2 of the event would have been better. To be honest, it was only because of the forums that I decided to log in and finish because I simply didn't know about the vote. I've been on an extended break so I've mostly just been logging in and out every couple weeks. But still, I think it could have been handled a bit better.

Yeah, I know I definitely share part of the blame, but since I thought I was done with the event, I didn't see a need to log in that much. And since this is the first time ever that they had done something like this for an event, I guess this contributed to my predicament. I was so used to how previous events were done. Luckily, we'll be able to put the stuff we got in the Armoire in the next patch, so I guess it's not that bad. Losing 10 slots of inventory is such a waste.

When you completed the first stage of the event, Lisette specifically tells you to come back and speak to her again once the voting period is over.

"Ages ago" meaning "two weeks"...?

I'm sorry, they had multiple announcments in multiple ways - Lisette telling you about it, the log in message, the special website stating it... if you dont look or remember any of those, it really seems like a problem you created for yourself and nothing the devs are to blame for. They wanted to give everyone time to cast their vote without having to rush through the quest within the first two days and told you again and again that there would be a follow up quest.

To be fair, people rush through it over the course of a few days anyway. By the time the end of the event rolls around very, very few people have not completed it and those that did were 100% done with it within the first few days.

Dude, dude, I didn't make this thread to start a fight. I also didn't blame the devs. I just stated wishing we had gotten the achievement after finishing phase 1. And 2 weeks is enough for me to forget about it since I have other things to focus on in my life.

Ah... didn't realize there was an achievement added at all. I had zero interest in finishing the quest because I got all of my rewards and don't care about Lisette or her and her sister's terrible relationship advice.

Shame I missed it, but oh well. At least I have both outfits already. :/

I missed it, too. So you're not alone. I don't even look in my achievements, though, as it's always going to be incomplete in some aspect so it's not an issue for me.

I put the few achievements with prizes I want onto the watchlist, and don't look at the rest of it.

I missed it too, oh well...

Looks like I missed it too. Didn't even know there was a phase 2 to it. I never had anything pop up for it. When was this second phase to it?

You don't have to read to get your rewards, duh.

I see all these people saying: "It was all over the place." or "Read." But honestly, we're all human and we all make mistakes. I checked the special website multiple times, but for some reason, the part about additional quests slipped my mind and my brain only registered the part about the decoration. I got everything from the event in phase 1, so the fact that I hadn't gotten the achievement yet slipped my mind too. To be honest, the rewards were more important to me, so once I got all of them, I felt at ease. I rarely check my achievements list, and when I do, I never ever check the seasonal one, so it's not that big of a deal. (Aren't such achievements deleted from the list after the event ends, like the Garo event?) It's just that I was left feeling bitter for missing the achievement despite having participated and still being an active player. I don't blame the devs for it, but I think I'm allowed to feel bitter over it.

Honestly they should have just tied to achievement to obtaining outfit - not to some odd part about "coming to see the results". I participated in main event, just because I didn't join after-party, doesn't mean that I wasn't there.

And you. Reality check: im one of those who dont read event stuff unless it interest me to my taste. And whos blame for that? Us players and we deal with it.

I second (or whatever number we are up to) this post. I know I missed it, and that is my fault, but the achievement really should have been tied to the same quest which gives the seasonal reward and not the final results. There have been events with cumulative results and state-changes in the world before but none relied on players coming back to gain the achievement or any unique rewards. I am not certain why they decided to go with this design this time but I am hoping they see this and realize it was not a great idea.

I had put off going to do the finish quest once I found out Astrid won everywhere.... guess I missed this year's achievement.

Pro tip

Unless a Season event gives you an achievement it is not complete. This applies to every season event ever.

Yeah, but I was so used to doing the whole event in one go and be over with it. This was the first time where you had to come back for the achievement. That kind of break between the 2 phases in this event threw me off. I remember noting not receiving the achievement after voting, but I just totally forgot about that later (T_T).

I guarantee you that more people would've been upset for being punished about not doing the event on Day 1.

I agree that it's always good that these events leave time for players to do the quests at their own pace. I've been playing the game for almost 5 years now, and I've never ever done an event as soon as it started (not day 1, or day 2, or even 1 week after sometimes). I understand the way they designed the event with 1 week for votes and 1 week for the follow-up, and I think it makes perfect sense. However, I personally consider the follow-up part as way less important than the first part (it had no rewards to offer, after all), which is why I think it might've been a better idea to tie up the achievement to the first part instead of the second one.

Does this mean we can't buy the dress from the calamity salvager either?

Last I heard, it checks them based on your achievements - and I can't see those on NPC.

Really wish SE would change this. I have outfit, I did the event, I want my achievement (and thus ability to reclaim those pieces).

I'm afraid we can't. That was the first thing I checked when I realized I missed the achievement (T_T). I'm so glad we can at least put the stuff we got in the Armoire now.

No one can but them off the salvager. Even if you got the achievement, they are not there. Maybe later they will update it so you can. They can do checks on quest completion too. It wouldn't make sense to do the check on the achievement for this event when you could get the items without the achievement.

I haven't checked but since the items were purchasable during the event, they may not be available from the salvager even if you did complete the quest.

I confirm, missed the second part, was simply busy irl and though i had the achievement after the bell and wistle of the first part.
Ho well, it didn't give a title or item so it isn't that bad as long as i don't trash the clothes.

Meh, I wouldn't be too hung up over it. I never do the Heavensturn events when they pop up and always miss those achievements, and not once have I cared about ever getting them.

Trust me, it'll blow over soon enough. Just don't stress over it too much and the newest stuff with make you forget about the old.
