NIN Shukuchi suggestions

As-is, when you try to plant the target at the furthest distance, you either fail because it's too far Usually, it takes several tries while you try to feel out the distance. Half the time, I just give up and hit Sprint instead.

One suggestion was to set the target at the maximum distance if you try to plant it further than that.
This would eliminate the failures, but could end up dumping you into some AOE you were trying to jump over because it didn't go far enough.

Alternate fix:

Let us plant the target beyond max distance, but delay the jump until we get close enough. The target remains on the ground for perhaps 20 seconds, then disappears without putting the ability on cooldown if you stay out of range.
This way, you just drop the circle where you want to go, then run in that general direction (avoiding other stuff on the way), until you get within range and Poof, you're there. If you set it closer than maximum distance, then you jump instantly like it is now.

It would still color shift to purple if beyond max range, to let you know it's in the delayed mode in case you want to make an instant, shorter move.

I think I would prefer if they just didn't let the target cursor go beyond it's max range. That way you can still move the cursor to where you want to go but don't have to go through the trial and error when clicking when you think you've reached the max distance.

Edit: I think this should be the case for all ground targeted skills, it's not so bad for ones that have a large aoe associated with them, but for Shukuchi in particular it's very annoying to judge the max distance and lose time because you're 1 yalm over.

I'd accept that as well, and it would probably be easier to code.

I really like this suggestion.

Especially trying to do this on a console, I find that it takes me just as long to set up my target as it would take for me to actually just walk that distance without sprinting. I only ever use it as a dash in if I've been required to move away for an extended time.

Never owned a console, but I suppose one solution there would be to just plant the target at max distance in the direction you're facing, with the option to move it around with a joystick button, then press another to go. (Same for keyboard & mouse)

I'd like them to just make it work like En Avant.

Shukuchi is a very useful and fun ability, unfortunately in its current state it's very much a hassle too.

The above solution of clamping the target to max range is the best imo, because it's quick and intuitive.

How does Shukuchi exactly work, btw.? Is it really a teleport where everything between will be ignored or is it like traveling really fast over the distance, getting affected by everything in between? Or to be precise: If there is an abyss between me and the position of Shukuchi, will I fall down like with some other gap-closers or will I reach the other side?

It used to be a slow teleport to get from point A to point B, and the delay would be enough to technically let you reach places a bit higher than usual if your elevation when you jump mid-shukuchi animation was the same. People were able to go to Kugane or Moonfire Faire's jump puzzle as a result. It was basically the ultimate flex as a ninja in jump puzzles to reach those really tall building spaces and just stare out on a rooftop like an anime character.

Since they removed that though by speeding up the animation (as it was rarely useful in fights due to the animation being too slow), Shukuchi works as a gap closer from point A to point B provided that the height difference from the two isn't too much. If point A to point B has point B at a higher elevation, you wouldn't be able to Shukuchi to point B unless you were facing a slope/incline that lets you run to point B. You can see this easily when you're running CT raids and you try to Shukuchi to the stairs from the side. It'll pop you next to the stairs, but not up the stairs unless you were facing the stairs first.

If there's a gap from point A to point B, Shukuchi currently goes "under the ground" so if point A is 50 feet above, on the building and point B is the next building that's also 50 feet above ground, and between the two is basically a steep 50 feet drop, you wouldn't be able to jump to point B because Shukuchi will drag you down to the ground first and you'll hit the point B building's wall.

Lore wise, now Shukuchi pretty much adapts the 'shrink the earth' definition to a more literal level, because you compress the ground distance rather than compressing the space between the two distances. You also can't really flex jump puzzles so you have to be an absolute madlad at nailing those jump quests like everyone else.

Though that won't stop Ninja NPCs from jumping up in the air and using a form of Shukuchi to leave the map in cutscenes.

I really want it to start at max so i can just immediately teleport without having to move the target cursor. Those seconds are crucial in getting hit by an aoe, especially without a good connection.

It doesn't work quite that way on console, if you change the angle you're viewing the field at, the reticle will move closer or further from you, meaning if you've got your camera angled wrong, it will either be out of range, or too close, and by the time you adjust for that, you might as well have just run there on your own. It doesn't move with just a joystick since one of them is used to move your character and the other is used to rotate the camera, you have to do additional button inputs that also make you need to stand still in order to adjust where you're going.

This is also why other moves like Salted Earth and formerly Shadow Flare used to get macroed by console players

Or just turn it into a dash
