So FFXIV has been nominated for a few awards.
But why the hell is it not nominated for score and music?
It has way better music then any of the nominees.
Anyhow, feel free to vote, lol

Maybe they listened to the background music in Coerthas Central Highlands? I had to mute it every time I went there just to not hear those same few chords over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
Except for that zone I've loved the music I've heard so far.
They're not even a real awards ceremony anyway, just a method of selling Doritos and Mountain Dew while paying homage to Hideo Kojima, God's gift to gaming.
Watch it for the trailers, but don't expect anything more than for people to fellate the current "best" game on the market.
There should be a category called headscratchers, where games like Jump Force are nominated and you don't know why...
It's a marketing conference disguised as a "Game Awards" show. Last year was mostly 'exclusive' game announcements and shilling the Epic Games store. it's the Paid Advertisement Awards.
I will hope XIV wins its categories but in reality the Game Awards is just what I call "GeoffE3", as the awards are just hiding the fact it's a glorified combined press conference for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft for the next year. I enjoy watching it (especially last year with the Joker reveal) but saying I'm watching it for the awards is a lie lol
...uhm, Kingdom Hearts 3 has a great soundtrack, and DMC has some great music as well? Both give Shadowbringers a run for it's money, and quite honestly here the real travesty is Death Stranding being in every goddamn category.
I just visited the website behind the OP's link, and surely enough, it hasn't changed my opinion at all.
Yearly media awards, be it for movies, music, actors, video games, etc, just flat-out stink.
I'll continue to come to my own conclusions and laugh at these "awards."
Please keep in mind that the nominees are chosen predominantly by gaming-related media outlets from around the world.
As in gaming press. As in gaming journalists.
I think that should in no uncertain terms set everyone's expectations as low as humanly possible n_n
However, the show is still worth watching for the world premieres, I suppose it can be treated like a mini-E3 in that regard.
/Looks at all the Death Strandings. Wow. It hasn't been a great year for gaming. Glad I have FFXIV.
We lost Best Ongoing Game to Fortnite, guys. Not surprised but still disappointed.
*does the Fortnite dance*
C'mon did anyone really think XIV had a chance? It's like having a non Miyazaki anime next to Star Wars at the theaters. Everyone knows who the tickets are gonna go to.
Yes exactly. I love XIV, truly I do. Seeing that trailer before the announcement made me misty eyed, because memories of that summer hype and hearing fans at the event cheering loud.
But against Fortnite? Yeah. Journalists will look to the more shiny, $$$ thing.
I'm probably overlooking something, but the following games are those that I enjoyed the most this year:
- Resident Evil 2 Remake
- Final Fantasy XIV
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Death Stranding winning so many awards is incredibly suspicious. Though there's always been a weird cult surrounding Kojima, the guy hosting the Game Awards has a cameo within the game itself and pretentious, 'artsy' games tend to be praised highly by critics only to fall flat with regular people.
A number of negative reviews over on Metacritic were also nuked recently, which is worthy of concern given that nothing was done to eliminate the flood of '10/10' reviews from fanatics seeking to inflate the score.
Even as someone who regards Kojima as a genius, I think Death Stranding was a fiasco of a game, and that it was only spared the sort of opprobrium that most games would attract if they amounted to nothing more than wearisome treks across empty landscapes because of the Kojima brand. Fortnite's win is easy to understand: it's by no means a good game, but it managed to steal the crown in a burgeoning genre populated by competitors who weren't/aren't even capable of making semi-competent products. Death Stranding, though? I suspect that it's strictly the critics' darling, and so how it won the popular vote—if popular vote it was—is beyond me. I would have thought that the halo granted by people actively willing themselves to somehow enjoy the game would have faded by now.
Bit funny losing to fortnite when yoshi said "dont have to worry about fortnite due to different genre and audience"
They explain the votes are 90% journalists, 10% fans on the TGA website.

I'm not mad as mad at the fact XIV lost but rather it and the other choices (which actually have pretty decent years) lost to Fortnite.
No one was happy about it. Watched a clip from a streamer that showed no one clapping but a lot of applause can be heard.
But yeah, money talks and game journalism sucks. What's new?
Fortnite has an audience of children for its player base. I honestly think this award ceremony is a complete joke. Most of these games I’ve never heard of. 90% Jury decision and 10% player vote? I didn’t even bother to watch it and I’m glad I didn’t.
Most things related to video game journalism is a joke award shows like this are no different
Instead of the "righteous anger" at FFXIV not winning anything, have you ever stopped to consider that perhaps this may be justified?
FFXIV has grown incredibly stale in terms of content cycle. Its primary relevance years ago was that it was rebuilt on the ruins of a failed project, something that used to be rare (although by now several games have had such a revival, so the story is now old and not important anymore).
Fortnite is probably the most important game of the world right now, in terms of what it achieved, and how it has transcended past simply being a game, to being one of the most important leisure activities for young people. It also maintains its hold on an extremely fickle market (young players), drew in more new gamers than any other title since, MAYBE, WoW, in which shadow FFXIV continues to stand.
Last but not least, FFXIV has not seen any big headlines for multiple years now, with the good game journalist criticisms of Shadowbringers being the sole exception. Other than that, its just a small game happily chugging along a completely predictable, conservative content plan year after year. Maybe after 6 years thats simply not award-worthy?
All rewards shows are blargh in my opinion. It feels like high school all over agai nwith these things, people, places or things being rewarded cause the -kool- kids like them and not being fairly judged and rewarded like they should. Cause again, Death Stranding shouldn't be in there as it JUST came out. Like... I feel like that being there is proof enough that these things are nothing but a wank fest :c. I can't believe I live in a world where video game awards are the same and pointless like the -stars- awards. T.T
Wow has less mechanics to encourage "zombie subs" than FFXIV. Its much quicker and easier to leave and pick up again after an extended break. As such I am sure there are more blind subs here, percentage-wise, than in WoW because there are reasons for it (housing, MSQ progress, limited-time rewards).
FFXIV has less players, less cultural impact, less revenue, less endgame content and less engagement on media platforms such as twitch. Its youtubers have less views on their videos, gaming journalism produces less headlines and content for it, and SE doesnt hold a candle to Blizzard in terms of brand recognition either.
That doesnt make it a bad game. But it very much is in the shadow of WoW, being the "other pve themepark".
Also not surprised about Fortnite. Lot more kids and so called "journalists" like IGN that play that lame game i guess.
Did enjoy trailer for Ghost of Tsushima and a few others though
WoW is dying slowly and everyone is coming to XIV or moving to other stuff. Considering the fact that all of twitch was in agreement that XIV is one of the best MMOs on the market today, that it won the popular vote, and the reaction of people who DON'T EVEN PLAY XIV when it lost, I can safely say it has garnered enough attention to. WoW is blantely copying it now. XIV has issues, to be sure, but I assure you it's very much not "undeserving" of praise.
Funny that they had to pipe in cheers / clapping for the winner.
The real reason I'm upset it didn't go to xiv, is despite any issue's I've ever had I know everyone who works on xiv works hard, real hard. Something that's easy to forget when they do something you don't like but I digress. I'm upset because everyone and their mom's mom knows about fortnite, while xiv doesn't seem to get much recognition from anyone outside of xiv when it comes to acknowledging it exists. Despite the tidal waves of hatred and anger wow fans throw at wow, the media and such always treat it like the second coming of Christ. It's a big massive deal when wows gonna release an expansion, twitter, fc, twitch youtube ect there's a ton of exposure. Yet xiv is genuinely treated like it doesn't exist.
That kinda stuff gets on my nerves when there's hard work done, but barely recognition for it. And that's not to say I hate wow, haven't played it so I can't really form an opinion on how hard they work, but the point is wows had the spot light for years, I'd just like to see xiv get it just once, that's all.
Sure xiv is far from perfect, and again it's easy to forget how hard yoshi an team work sometimes but they do deserve the spotlight just once.
I think people just watch TGA for the announcements tbh and the awards are secondary except maybe GOTY.
Big boi here we go.
This kind of stuff that makes people call this community a big circle jerk.
FF is not the all might MMO as you guys think it is.
The game is pretty niche, its a cute anime weeb game that gets the same content since 2015. Not much people play this kind of game, as opposed to fortnite, which is easier to approach over all.
It's kind of funny tho, you guys claim that gaming media picked the nominees, so you shouldn't take their opinions seriously, and yet, you get mad because your dress up weeb game didn't won any prizes. Are you even serious lmao.
And don't even try to play "the ff team works hard yadda yadda" card when you could pretty much say that to every other studio out there, lol.
Don't get me wrong, even tho the game has its flaws, I still like it a lot myself, but stop trying to put it in a pedestal, get back on reality, folks.
It's not a niche tho, ffxiv is 2nd only to wow and is about to pass it in subs, and it's a main series entry in quite possibly the biggest rpg franchise in the world, or at the very least in japan. Plus fortnite has kinda been dying and the only people who really care to play it are small children and people who pander to said kids, most everyone else agrees it's mediocre at best. You're dismissing ffxiv more than we're dismissing fortnite. I personally dont give a damn about 'game awards', but the whole 'lol ffxiv isn't that good' arguement is laughably bad.
