Dancer Improvisation and Healing

As a Dancer, I love using Curing Waltz whenever people take damage, even if I can count on one hand how often its actually made a difference. I've made more of a difference as PLD or RDM using Clemency/Vercure and I would love to have that feeling as a Dancer too.

I feel Improvisation falls into the same problem as Curing Waltz, it just doesn't feel like it makes much of a difference in the healing department. Personally, I would love if they changed it from a 10% healing buff to a flat out channeled healing skill.

Healer dies right before heavy AoE damage? Pop Improv while someone raises the healer.
Healers running OOM with a heavy DoT on the group? Pop Improv and save the day.

That's my hope but how do my fellow dancers feel? Would you like having more healing or just want more offensive power?

For the longest time, I really wanted dancer to be a healer in FFXIV but that time has gone and pass and I really don't like FFXIV dancer.

FFXI Dancer can roll as a healer using curing waltz l, ll, lll, lV, Healing Waltz, ( esuna) Divine Waltz ( AoE heals) as long as you have TP ( convert Steps into finishing Moves and use Reverse Flourish is the fastest way to get TP)

As for FFXIV dancer, it is what is it. Just a range DPS with a tiny AoE heal that makes little to no difference.

So if you want to be a healer and be a dancer, go with FFXI dancer, I don't think FFXIV curing waltz will change anytime soon

Also to add, hybrids doesn't exist in FFXIV so as much as I would love DNC to have a strong AoE cure, they will leave it as it is sadly

Curing Waltz really only shows its usefulness in a trial/raid and everyone is near your partner, other than that, it does nothing, even at 300 potency.

It may not do much but i still use it and Shield as well.
In the patch notes i thought i had read that Curing Waltz potency was increased, it just does not feel like it however

You should be stacking for heals anyways and that's 600 potency together, which is higher than Cure III and ogcd. Of course if you just toss it randomly whenever, it's not going to be very effective - utility and heals have to be planned to get most out of them.
Even outside of that, you can still use it to save people sometimes, you just need to be smart about timing and position, but that's just a bonus.

Improvisation is.... not great.

I've been learning Hades this weekend and can't tell you how many times I saw that one player standing just outside the very obvious radius of the skills in the phase transitions. Honestly I don't see where the skill couldn't be made into something like Mantra where it's just something you can pop and impact a radius around you for additional healing, which would then let it combo better with Curing Waltz, or be a smaller radius than Mantra but goes off around you and your dance parter.

Then leave the animation you have for the down phases to just let you passively build esprit without having to have your full party near you.

I blast it whenever raid wide damage goes off because everyone at least knows to "marry" the healers when it's coming haha.

yeah... that's why RDM will never be balanced and Blue mostlikely won't ever change to a normal job... - sad but true : /

Improvisation really needs a buff. It's extremely lackluster for being the DNC cap skill.

I like the idea of it being a big healing cooldown, to be used when the healers are trying to recover. The 10% healing buff is nice and all, but most of the time in my experience it's being overkill, so maybe another stat buff like Direct hit or crit?...

One thing for sure... You can count on your left hand the moments that improv is useable on current content. And if you ever think about using it during another time just for the Esprit gains, first, good luck on having people stack on you, second, even if you manage to do that, the damage you'd gain with Saber Dance is not worth the damage you would be doing normally and the risk of being turreted there.

I rarely use improv. As a capstone it'd fairly weak, but at least the rest of the job has a strong note to it. I really only use improv in phase transitions. Eden 1 Savage is about the first time I felt it had a use because there was a period of doing nothing whilst healers get people back to health, though the impact isn't felt.

Curing Waltz to me is a clutch heal, if I see health is low, its just a nice to have, my healer instincts usually kick in to use it. Because it's insta cast, I find it's worth using in those situations. But I guess it's that, both are situational.

I wouldn't mind a potency boost BUT normally that kind of thing means SE nerf something else, if it'd be the case, then I don't feel strongly enough for them to not adjust something we need because 'balance'.

DPS curing walts potency does not equate to healer Cure III potency.
ilvl 470 300 potency curing waltz heals for about 7.5k (non crit) so thats 15k stacked (600 potency).
ilvl 451 550 potency cure III does about 19k (non crit).
So even with a ilvl difference of almost 20 the dancers 600 potency curing walts healed for 4k less than the white mage's 550 potency cure III.

Meanwhile I think curing waltz has it uses obviously, just pointing out that the point you made about it being higher than Cure III doesnt really mean anything given that our scaling is entirely different.

Honestly, it doesn’t help that healing is pretty broken in this game. Most content outside of Savage and Ultimate doesn’t call for extreme amounts of healing, so skilled healers rarely struggle to keep up with the damage; and, more times than not, a healing cooldown unbuffed by Improv’s +10% is more than enough to heal burst damage, so Improv feels more like overkill.

It’s useful in raids, I guess—but I honestly dislike the tie-in to Esprit because if it’s used when people aren’t stacked well, you end up with 3~9 random gauge that you can’t do anything with (and that drives me super crazy—OCD cannot handle staring at a gauge of 79 Esprit).

I really love this idea. I would make it so we have to stand still will chaneling thus making the DNC a help for the healers but not to OP
I would not make us a hybrid per say but it would give us a little bit of raid utility wich I think we lack considering we are kind of a support job.
- We do not have the utility of a BRD/MCH or a raising SMN or RED
- We do not have the DPS of those who don't have much raid utility (BLM for instance)

Personally I only play this job because I can hide my bad DPS behind the proc system :p
