Can we get some longer hairstyles please?

It's been a really long time since we have gotten any medium to long hair styles. Everything is short... Especially for races not Au Ra.

Could we please get more variety of hairs around this length?

For all races! I don't really care for the clipping to much since just about everything clips if you try hard enough.


PS: I'd also like another pony tail themed hair style. The current is my favorite in the game but is meh in hats. Some other options would be lovely.

Have you yet bought the long hairstyle from Gold saucer, great lenghts? There is also Samsonian locks. But as for now gold saucer has the best long hair for now.

The problem with long hair is that it clips horribly with 80% of the gear out there.
It's love for them to fix that first, before implementing more.

Yess! I'm so sad that hime cut is exclusive to Au Ra and they refuse to give us Yotsuyu's even better version ._.

I personally don't care, I just don't wear gear that clips with it and it's fine. I don't think they should let ANYTHING get in the way of creative design, both in terms of gear and hair. Clipping is a non-issue that players can easily get around by just putting some thought into their glamour.

Want some hair styles that reach close to the ground and long twin ponytails.

I want some of that 80s volume hair the bunnies are rocking. They are awesome!

With the Nier Raids coming, now would be a good opportunity to release A2's hairstyle.

I would love more options but I believe the Devs are dealing a physics engine issue on making things longer. Yes there are people who are willing to accept clipping but I don't think the Devs want to make that decision for everybody. I have seen edited photos of characters with amazingly long hair but it clips so badly that even with my tolerance for clipping, it just goes too far into immersion breaking. Hopefully, technology will offer enough processing power to allow for better physics and its behavior in massive groups of people. Till then, we are stuck with what we have.

My character's pony tail clips straight through the middle of her torso whenever she looks up. As in, I can see the ends of it sticking through her belly. If clipping is their excuse, they failed miserably.

Yeah, long hair is what I usually end up using, unless I want a specific glam. Generally, I wear outfits without hoods, or something causing clipping issues because of the hair. This is probably the reason they don't make more. I would like to see more though anyway, I can adjust my outfits like I already have. The au ra hair I use primarily clips with a lot of things.

It's less about the clipping and more about how trying to render long hair properly would just KILL frame rates, especially on low end systems like PS4. Imagine 20+ people with long hair around you, the system trying to render every one of them sort of properly, yeah, slide show.

Not to mention that there is NO way very long hair would ever flow properly using that engine, it would look incredibly stiff and lifeless.

Middle lengths and decent ponytails are probably the best we're ever going to get, just hope for more of those.

Only if we can get the cross-race hairstyles on Viera and Hrothgar (when possible) first.

While i agree with most of your point im going to say this. The whole “low end systems” is flat wrong.

Its not the ps4 thats the problem and people need to stop spreading that misinformation. The dev team and Yoshida himself has come out and said it plainly that the reason we will not get another graphical update is because many of the player base is on lower end desktops and laptops and if they upped the graphics again they would likely lose a huge portion of their player base that played on those systems. Nothing to do with ps4.

So its the fact that the majority of the player base across the world plays on older more dated computers than ps4 players.

Compare PS4 hardware specs to FFXIV's minimum PC requirements and consider who's really holding the game back.

I would love more long hairstyles added to the game. The clipping and physics are a bit unfortunate. I recall finally getting that one from Palace of the Dead (forget what it's called) and trying it out. It looked like I had a plank attached to the back of my head as it swung side to side when I ran.

That said, I still prefer this to nothing.

Only if you promise not to complain when the hair doesn't flow normally when you move or do actions. Because there's a high chance long hair (like Ice Hearts or A2s) will be glued to your back like capes are. SE already said that hairstyles don't have (a lot? much?) bones/skeletons or whatever that term is in them.

Honestly, when it's as thick as that, too, it tends to hide a lot of the clipping since it may enter the nearest layer of hair but there's at least a decently large portion of clothes that won't be thick enough to exit the outer layer. As for the rest of the clothes, we can just avoid those. Better to have that option, at least.

My larger worry is how obvious it'll be when sitting there stiff despite sprinting, etc....

Yeah, I think the latest (?) new longer hairstyle, the one with bangs works like this. A lot of gear with collars will hide under the hair and it doesn't look bad. Hair all the way to the waste would probably be really stiff, and if it flowed it would probably show off a lot of the clipping. Still, I think it's worth it, there are outfits that can go with longer hairs.

Do we even have any hair physics? Last I checked they were behaving much like long cloths. Which is horribly. Wide, stiff, and averse to any kind of movement.

Given that the other MMO I play is DCUO in which all hair is pretty much static anyway and has plenty of poke-throughs, something like this is only minor. (In that game not to long ago, they released a hairstyle that reached to the feet in which the game even advises you not to use with a back style).

Enough that it moves in the wind and drapes around shoulders when the character turns their head, rather than a rigid piece that clips straight through.

It's animated in chunks and probably does use cloth physics or something similar, but it's convincing enough for a videogame - by my standards anyway. I think it looks better than the HD character models from the trailers with hair modelled in detail. They look like they have too much individual motion.

Seriously, nobody is asking for hair that long.
The op is asking for hair the same length as the au ra himecut and the new bangless long hair in ShB.

People complaining about clipping is the reason we keep getting short to med length hair..

People have been wanting hair that long for awhile and are more than happy to say "I don't care about the clipping!" I'm just adding onto that pile that if they get the hair they want, they better not complain when they realise it has no bones (like Aloy's hair in Horizon. Hair in FFXIV will never flow as majesticly as Aloys' hair).

Personally I'm rather conflicted on this. On one hand, some longer hairstyles would be nice. On the other I hate our cloth physics with a passion, as it handles anything longer than a buttcape pretty badly. Most of our clothes look like they were drenched in fabric hardener a bit too long. Very noticable on slender framed characters where the cloth is hanging in a weird wide angle, positioned away from the legs. Most noticable on open robes, or long coats.

For me, if its going to behave the same way, I wouldn't use the new hairs anyway =/

Consider a console is about mid/middle-high specs; PCs need a decent window for options. You can upgrade a PC at any time, a console will always have it's exact specs. Not really fair to say "PC's are weak!" when you take the cost of a new console to a PC build you can 9/10 make something considerably more powerful.

Proper hair physics is extraordinarily difficult to animate. While I know no one is asking for hair to flow that realistically, I just wanted point out that what we have is decent enough for an mmo considering the limitations of not only server strain, but also dev time.

It is definitely an issue that is exacerbated the longer the style is. However, improvisation is also a thing. Anyone who is way into housing will vouch for this as we use many glitches to obtain a desired result. I did it here using the Gyr Abanian Plait hairstyle in combination with a scouting headpiece to add length and create an image of my character just having a ton of hair:

While I am not saying SE should intentionally use glitches to give us better hairstyles, I am saying to be more creative with the tools they have available.

At this point, I don't even think we are asking for longer hairstyles. They already exist. We are asking for more of them. The devs don't have to deal with the clipping issue at all, as players find ways around it with their glamour choices. However fuller/voluminous hairstyles, ponytails, and updos have a tendency to negate clipping issues caused by collars. So long as we are not too bothered by the limited physics I say SE should start churning out longer hairstyles like sweet butter.

I can imagine such long hair would equally make a mess on sitting down and other animations that makes the body turn or bend. Not to mention the clipping.

The point, though, is that there are people running closer to minimum PC specs, which are below PS4's capabilities. Anyone saying that PS4 is holding the game back is factually wrong.

well hair can be worked around if clipping is such a issue that dress is just poorly made

it also help if so many damn pieces of gear didnt have some annoying collar that sticks up
