This topic already has a few posts and most of them have hundreds of comments. I'm pretty sure most will not want to re discuss...

and I'll lazy too if I play melee
The option to toggle it on and off. my play style varies greatly depending what I'm doing, Soloing Auto-attack off allowing me more freedom as well the feeling of being part of the fight. Group play Auto-attack on to allow freedom to chat with the group as well focus on increasing my DPS with BR, abilities not related to standard attacks.
Or they could just extend the battle queue and give us auto attack when we don't press a button. That would be the best way to approach it.
It's largely dependant what class I am playing as to if I want it or not and also just for the social aspect so i can type out a message and not have to worry about standing there doing nothing while I do.
How would I implement it? Well make it toggle on/off for basic attack by holding down 1 for a few seconds to toggle on/off. When on it would only use the basic attack once your stamina bar is completely full then wait for it to fill again then launch basic attack again and so on, easy.
Same reason I said in the other 15 threads.
i think ppl just wanna be lazy >.> soory I hate auto attack..... but ya the manual arrack in ffxiv coulda been more fliud. Like making an attack button not an action bar number. Look up DCUO combat. Or elder scrolls I would like that type of attack system. It keeos me entertained and its preatty easy to do abilities. :)
I don't "want" auto attack but I will accept it only because I am a very chatty person in-game, in 99% of my parties in FFXI I spent my time talking between JAs, WSs and/or heals/buffs. I can't do that as a melee in this game without forsaking my role.
More chat friendly game.

I do like the aspect of the battles being more involved, but I think they could do it better and include auto-attack. Right now though the battle system is more involved than your usual auto-attack, it does not entertain me. There is a difference between a deep and engauging battle system, and one that just keeps me occupied. Its not unique and exciting, its just busy work.
You really want a reason why people want auto attack and why?

It makes it easier to talk strategy in battle, and tell people what you are doing, or what you need them to do.
The "queue" idea will not work for attacks that require a block, parry or evade btw.
Auto attack promotes communication, co-operation, helps with server side lag/latency, and does not pull away from tactical play.
Communication is promoted because you have time to chat.
Co-operation is promoted because Battle Regimens will be much more likely to be used.
By forcing less actions to be entered per second (especially with those players who spam) there will be less lag/latency due to having a server side client. Making the game much more enjoyable and allow actions like Feint to be used in appropriate time windows. Cures can be cast on demand rather than waiting waiting for your stupid inferior attack to finish (much worse if you have several queued up) so you can mass heal if the mob(s) score multiple critical attacks or use very strong TP actions. Normally you would die by the next regular attack of the mob because you can't cast Cure in time due to some issue whether directly or indirectly because of auto attack interfering with mandatory animation delays or lag/latency.
This does not decrease tactical thought put into playing the game. My reasoning for this is because regular attacks are too inferior to really have any thought of judgment over other than I have to be careful not to screw myself over in case I need to use a specific action immediately without any delay whatsoever which regular attacks can definitely interfere with. With or without an auto attack I'm spending the same amount of time considering which actions to use and regular attacks are second nature to me (require no thought process behind to execute effectively like blinking).
It will allow for weapon delays without messing with stamin too much and allow for more variety in gear choices
the current battle system to me is really slow/slugish, just speed the animations up and I'd be happy and for auto-attack I'd like it mainly due to the fact that the current system keeps skipping animations :'( and the animations are so cool ><
As someone who uses a gamepad, I'll no longer be forced to return to Bar 1 Slot 1 every time I want to use a normal attack. As long as all other actions have priority over the basic attack there shouldn't be any problems.
Who cares anymore? Matsui has already stated that auto-attack is happening.
Now we just need more information on how everything will work out.

Personally I think a full auto attack system is more work than needed. I do admit we need a toggle of sort but I like manual input for a lot of situations. I'll admit it's a disadvantage for gamepad users, however at the same time I always felt like using a gamepad was more toruble than it's worth since you'd have to put it down to type a message or use an awful onscreen keyboard.
I really don't see why people complain about the 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 thing so much either, mages had to use cures manually in XI all the time and nobody cried about it then.
I don't personally want one over the other. I think they both can work fine, although I can admit the current system needed some tweaking. The major gain i'll get from AA is being able to type while fighting. Both work at the end of the day, so i'm not blowing up over one move or another.
I don't really care either way about this option. And would prefer it operated like the Aggro Icon, If you dont want it turn it off.

I don't want auto-attack, as most know.
The monsters overall are easy enough that people can and are just spamming their way through battles. It doesn't matter that they're being terribad players, it works, so whatevs is consensus. The problem isn't attack spam but rather the inherent laziness in most people wanting the path of least resistance.
We don't need auto-attack. What we need are more low/non-TP abilities, and abilities that are more effective in how they affect the outcome of the fight. Right now the incentive for players to be strategic isn't really there, thus we have people spamming their way through battles and then complaining about how boring it is.

Auto Attack =/= lazy. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure that 11111111111114enter....1111111111111114enter....1111111 is not healthy for any keyboard. It's not that I'm lazy, it's that continually pressing the same exact key, multiple times in rapid succession is 1) Unhealthy for the board 2) Extremely inefficient and 3) Completely unnecessary
Bottom line, there is nothing about not wanting to break my keyboard that makes me lazy. Auto attack is coming. You can either stay and play or jump ship like everyone else.
I'd like to see a toggle, with Auto-Attack being the less useful so that you can still fight while chatting (just not do as much damage), then get back to attacking manually. I think this would be the best way to resolve this argument, and it benefits both sides.
I really don't spam the normal attack. I like using skills, so I really don't need auto-attack.
They can't make it toggle-able as it was said that auto-attack is what makes the new system possible. It does not work without auto-attack.

The main objective here, when thinking about battles rich in strategy, pace, and exhilaration, is instead of having to time regular attacks, we will be preparing situations that require proper timing of abilities, magic, and weapon skills. Following this, weaker enemies are a different story, but we will make sure it’s balanced so you can’t win a fight just by using auto-attack.
Due to the fact we still have a lot of elements that need to be tested and looked into, it is difficult for me to tell you any more info in great detail, but if you give me some time I will do my best to share the information with you. Thank you!
Well I already answered why I want it, I was just clearing up the issue of people bringing up toggle.
Even so, that is what they would prefer themselves. lol Its not like they assume it is going to happen. :P
I want it to make battles worthwhile and not a zergfest of enless spamming
I want battles to last more than 10 seconds.
I want there to be some kind of skill to battles, and some communication too.

No wonder FFXIV fails if these are the people its trying to accommodate while also trying to cater to the MMO audience at large who would laugh at all of these stupid requests. Lol. I recently played Dragon Age 2, it has auto-attack on PC. I got a bug in a dungeon where the auto-attack stopped working, let's just say the amount of time I had to manually click my mouse was ridiculous and pain inducing.
Auto-attack allows you to focus on other things and strategies. If the game was more action oriented with cool specialty moves like in AoC I could understand no auto-attack but that's not how this naturally wants to flow. Either make the game MORE action oriented or add in auto-attack.
