New Patch Thoughts?

So I was reading over the new patch log and realized they basically are planning to make Gathering easier for new players to get into and understand.

However there is always a catch, there has to be. For hard-core gatherers that put time into slotting their materia and gear what's the catch for them, that makes it all worth it and gives them an 'end game'?

Thoughts?

gathering wasn't really meant to be something that is overly difficult. unless you are deep into collectibles for aetherial reduction or wanting to max out yields - there really is no "end game" for gatherers (miners and botanists anyways) - fishing has it's own thing with big fishing and records and log that several times more expansive than the miner/botany log.

A lot of the truly stupid skills nobody used were eliminated. I never read in detail enough to know if the shard and crystal changes actually increase yield or just apply bursts based on GP. If losing the element skills for 'always on' skills when gathering it means they have stopped trying to hoodwink us in to a bait and switch. For me, for a lot of people it was all handed off to retainers so all that effects us is not having to spam 75% fails when it's something you never gathered before.

I am a bit disappointed that gatherers can't participate in the Ishgard reconstruction yet. I am really hyped since they said that people can get special tools wich were compared with the ultimate raid weapons. However, the ranking isn't coming this patch either. I really want a super exclusive shiny fishing rod :x

The changes to desynthesis sound nice. I capped out my fishing desynthesis and it's pretty much useless. After the change I maybe have a 100% chance to get the bikinis, cloth and pet out of the lvl 50 big fish? But maybe this will destroy the market value of these items? So let's wait and see.

The change to the new stealth system sounds good too. It is probably a bit too powerfull to be in stealth 24/7, but pulling aggro and having to run or becoming 2 shot didn't gave much to the gameplay anyway.

After they added the times of the unspoiled notes into the gathering logs for botanist and miner and now removed the "out of reach" mechanic and also added that nice material tree for the crafting log - I really hope they will rework the fishing log and add all the informations about time, weather and bait and whatever else is needed in the future. I fear the day when "cat became hungry" goes offline...

personally I've only gathered a bit when new mats would be out to save some money, otherwise I never bothered learning how to properly gather since I mostly craft.

I didn't catch all the nuance of the change but if it makes gathering more straightforward and, possibly, cristal farming a thing, I'm all for it (I'm always in need of more crystals T_T)

I'm curious if Quick Gathering is going to be a significant time saver, given that you already clear most nodes in 10-12 seconds.

I don't really expect it to be a huge time saver, just a convenience thing. I've always absolutely hated when I thought I timed the click just right for a gather attempt, but ping or lag or something kicked in and I just sat there. Then I get frustrated and just start spam clicking. Will be nice to not have to do that anymore.

I’m excited with all those skill gone. Crafting and gathering felt like a chore. Just to craft one item I have to visit so many locations to gather so many items and craft one item with so many button presses... Zzz

This expansion looks so sci fi dominated. I'm excited. :)

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but i dont think this part is changing. They got rid of and consolidated skills, but i dont think that changes what materials youll need to make a thing or where those come from. Just the buttons youll have to press to make them into stuff.

It was listed on the chart in the live letter as a "future update" along with the new Diadem and ranking system. So I guess 5.2 or so...

The changes so far to gathering I am happy about.
Getting rid of the dumb 'discover' mechanic when you already know what nodes they are gave us an extra attempt which is sooo nice now you get skills to proc now without needing to be lucky on if it was a + attempts node.

If you have the melded dwarven cotton / swallowskin set the facet gathering set is useless overkill.

All the legendary nodes were at 100% for me. In 5.0 they were 93 - 99%.

On an alt who is still in the yamashi set zonurskin maps, formerly 83%, are now 100%. Petalite is 100%, etherael cocoons are 98%.

Not true. It'll still raise the HQ chance. Its not as useful as the new crafting sets but still helps. I'll probably craft a set after I'm finished with my crafter gear.

SO.

1). Quick Gather DOES save lots of time. That 1 second or so that the game pauses before it registers your click is quite noticeable.
2). The Auto-Sneak is just so good. You aren't slowed by sneaking anymore and it's always up. HOWEVER, if you change to DoL while in town your Sneak will NOT be up. Don't forget about this if you go out after changing while in town.
3). As far as I can tell, the crystal yield skill does exactly the same thing as it used to, only there's 1 button that works on all crystals and shards.
4). They appear to have somewhat boosted XP gains, I was just gathering materials for my crafting binge and I gained a level or two on my 70+ gatherers today quite easily. Or at least it felt that way.

Otherwise, it seems to be pretty much the same as it always was.

With the big skill shakeup, this made a decent opportunity for me to go back through and basically reset/reorganize my hotbars on both gatherers and crafters.

I think there may still be a few gathering skills that could still be cut out, though, I can also see their purpose. We've still got a number of skills that are only good for a single gather attempt, rather than for the entire life of the node. I can understand still keeping those skills, pretty sure they stack with the better versions, and they're cheaper, if you're not chugging cordials or too impatient for passive recovery. Idk. I get it, but, they still feel kinda like useless bloat.

Convenient to have the Toil skills auto-activate now as well.

They've set it so exclusively-collectable crafted items are only ever crafted as collectables now, so, wonder how long before we'll see something similar for the gathering equivalents. Would be nice to know when not to collect a pile of something that sounds possibly useful only to be garbage.

Hasrat, the one-swing skills do stack with the all-swing skills. I was using King’s Yield 2 on the new ore last night, and Pick Clean, for 4/swing. Once my GP rose back above 100 using Bountiful Yield would see the next swing garner 5.

As for gathering ‘garbage’ ... you should be able to avoid that now. Item tooltips have the words Crafting Material on them when they are used in a crafting recipe - with the possible exception of gear, that is; I’m not sure if the low level gear that is used to make a stronger piece of gear has that term on it. But seeing as gear is not something you mine or harvest anyway ...

I like quick gather. Auto Sneak is nice. Not seeing much difference to Aetherial Reduction but that's fine.

Personal preference if that makes it worth it, but due to Brunt Force, extra GP and an extra gathering attempt I'm getting more than enough HQ from legendary nodes. I'm using a cotton/swallowskin set with no overmelds, just 6's in the main slots and have 100% gather rate and 10% base hq. I see no reason to upgrade, especially since my current set allows me to convert my accessories to materia continually. Seems overkill tbh.

I want to have Sneak's babies. I had a ton of fun last night setting myself down right in a mob's face. I went to Castrum Oriens and flew around buzzing the Groots and laughing because they couldn't see me or touch me. I love how I can freely run to a close node instead of having to mount up or sidle over under Stealth.

Then you pair Sneak with Quick Gathering and you're bopping from node to node in no time collecting tons of materials. Quick Gathering isn't a significant amount faster, but the value for me is not having the constant clicking wearing my hand out.

It also looks like they ninja'd in a change to proc rates on bonus nodes. I would see +1 gathering or +1 yield nodes back to back and more 38% gathering fortune nodes when before patch I would see more 5%. I'm not complaining, because that also helps with the speed of gathering materials.

- Giving Land: Huge boost to crystal gathering. If you hit the +1 attempt node you will usually see 100-150 crystals, shards (dunno about clusters yet) from a use.

- Sneak: Takes all the misery out of basic gathering. Going to get Lignum Vitae or Dwarf Cotton now, is much less a crawl on your belly feeling.
- No hidden materials: I had most everything unlocked anyway so I can't speak on this


All in all this has had a bigger impact on me for crafting than any of the crafting changes. Getting items to white scrip farm is just a case of go do it. Not the dog and pony show it used to be. Before 5.1 Gathering was something you did after you unlocked flying in a zone. Now it's fluid with map exploration.

I got 171 clusters from one node today. It was a beautiful thing.

I love what they did with gathering. Lots of QoL stuff with auto gather, more crystals/clusters, and not having to uncover a node let's you actually make use of Deep Vigor/Brunt Force. Plus it nets you an extra collectible which is good because I need another 8000 white gathering scrips to complete my crafting tools.

The new patch is nice and all but I feel the giving land would be better used if it wasn't on a 3 minute cooldown.
Another thing is how they switch up the crystal and cluster output of aethereal reduction, where I'll be getting 52 clusters and 18 crystals instead of the other way around when I could really use the 52 in crystals than clusters per reduction.

Makes me wanna try to be a legendary dragoon next. XD

The aura effect of sneak is annoying. Why does it even need a visual indicator when it is always active anyway?

It is not too bad on miner and botanist, but I am a fisher and I am sitting for looong periods of time at the same place. And this annoying aura is well... annyoing when you have nothing else to do than staring at your character for hours.

Of course I turn the skill off - but having to turn the skill off everytime I change classes because it automatically activates... is still annoying... >.>

Is it possible to get Pick Clean to +2 instead of +1 on Sandalwood Sap/Beryllium Ore with the new gear ?

Yes, but not 100%. With buff food I'm >2500 perception, sometimes pick clean proccs with +1, sometimes with +2 on legendaries. On normal lvl 80, sometimes i get +2, sometimes +3

I am fairly new to the game and completely new to gatherering but I just hit level 66 on BTN and MIN last night. I absolutely love Sneak -- this is probably the best QOL upgrade I've seen in games in a good long while. Leveling is too fast now. I leveled Miner from 27 to 66 in just a few hours. I was in the process of doing the gathering for a class quest and had the next class quest pop. So, I gained 5 levels before I could collect 20 HQ whatevers when that was the only thing I was doing to gain exp. All in all I really like the changes but I do expect them to nerf the experience gain before long.

But it isn't always on. If you change to a gathering class in town it doesn't turn on.

Doing ephemeral nodes and aetherial reduction of 4/8 and 5/8 seems still be superior if you need to farm crystal/clusters. An 36 minutes session of 3 spots nets around 1400 crystals and 800 clusters.

Certainly the XP boost was considerable. Someone in the FC took mining from 51 to 80 in 2 days.

He focused first on gathering all items he hadn't previously gathered then unlocked collectibles. He was 69 before he started unlocking custom deliveries and never did touch leves. He had 5 Squadron Survival manuals and bought a few more of the Commercial manuals with the scrip he was getting from collectibles. We also had Earth and Water II up as one of our FC actions on the second day he was gathering. He said he was impressed with Quick Gathering, it made things so much faster for him.

My gathering collectibles macro still works so all good with me, lol

No kidding about the XP boost. I started leveling FSH yesterday and after a couple of hours I managed to get to level 52. It’s pretty insane. Also got all my crafters except for CUL to level 60 with how quickly you can level through Restoration turn ins.

I've leveled four different characters to lvl 80 in both Mining and Botany. The first three took two full days 12 hours each day to get both Mining and Botany from 70 to 80.

I did the fourth character after the patch. I'd set two days aside and thought I might get it done in one with the changes. I was finished by 10am on the first day. I did collectibles only from 70 to 80 on both Mining and Botany - between them I got barely enough scrips to buy one of the Folklore Gathering books.

Gathering is far too easy to level now, as is crafting. I suspect they've done it to pander to the influx from WoW.

I've always kept my gathering capped, as I'm a craftaholic and need the mats. I love the new gathering changes. They just make gathering easier and quicker. As to more people getting into gathering, good for them!
