Who Thought Adding Difficulty Levels To Instanced Quests Was A Good Idea?

That has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever because it basically gives a free pass, especially for new players who were just given an excuse to not make an effort in playing the game. If someone from Square Enix came up with this idea, they need to be fired.

I don't think it's necessary but then again it's a solo player experience. If someone want to have an easier time because they are only in for the story, let them.

This is really embarrassing for SE. FFXIV's default setting is "Very Easy" to begin with. If anything the proper thing would have been to create a hard mode difficulty with extra rewards. SE is going full-stupid in the worst direction. I fully expect HP/MP to be removed at some point, skills to be eventually removed, and simply have a one button "I win" button. Maybe even at that point the game will be too difficult to play? This is truly MMO clown world.

So much this... How the hell you guys get triggered by something so futile

I can kind of understand people feeling concerned about this considering the wipefests that still occur during the MSQ trials if you happen to end up mostly with new players.

I'll use the same argument I said on the other thread: MSQ doesn't even tailor itself to your role. You can raise the dificulty levels up to the roof, you still won't be able to perform a healer or tank role properly because everything is set and done with the perspective of a DPS. If the solo instances were actually shaped after whatever role you enter the duty as, then yes, I'd be iffy about making it too easy because people wouldn't learn how to perform their jobs well. But when you have to Malefic spam in a fight in which the only objective is move around, rely on bad AI heals and drop someone's health bar to 0 before a countdown, well, I couldn't care less.

I didn't realise people used the MSQ to learn how to play their jobs.

If people are worried about people of a lower skill level causing wipes in content, people tend to learn game mechanics from dungeons and trials and not MSQ. Dungeon and trial difficulty throughout the MSQ is progressive.

It is a good thing actually, i have older friends who have in the past struggled to do some of those solo fights which are required to move on with MSQ.
I do also see the viewpoint but will point out like someone said jump potions and also .. Palace of the dead or heaven on high that some use to "learn" jobs, but whatever players do what they will do it is whatever, lol

Yea it's totally not going to affect the fact that I already carry people quite often in normal modes by healing and ressing the results of easily avoidable damage. These people had the ability to complete the normal modes of the solo content. Imagine the people who cannot and choose the easier modes instead.

Yea, I've been playing through the story at the default difficulty. It doesn't teach or require any real knowledge of how to play to complete. If you know which button makes damage happen, you're good. Adding an easier mode won't change anything, though it does feel unnecessary.

Honestly, I wish there was a harder difficulty and an option to solo dungeons with AI, though. Besides a handful of trials everything has been a faceroll; I have no idea if I'm playing well because it's never really seemed to matter one way or another.

I'd like the option to actually fail content if I screw up, so I can retry and learn some stuff.

The only thing I'm upset that its not a hard difficulty i wouldn't mind having. Other than that I'm okay with.

You're either lying or you have incredibly good luck. This happens to me for two weeks after the release of new 24 man content since I came to the game. With the exception of Void Ark because that was always very easy.

Orbonne Monastery was literally with vote abandons even when it was relevant. O12N was comical in how many people tried to get a Vote Abandon to pass because they couldn't just faceroll it.

They're listed as being on a JPN server, so that's probably why lol. If they're clearing savage in DF, alliance raids shouldn't be an issue.

If you were on a NA server you would be very lucky for this to not happen. I've seen many abandons on Hashmal when it was current and Cid to this day still carries that risk. I've seen an abandon or two on Deathgaze since ShB released.

You guys should know by know that you're expected to carry weaker players.

It's not like the solo instances as is teach you how to perform well in a party or even demand any sort of mastery of your class as is. Not a big deal.

This, pretty much. Sure, you might say "They could improve if the difficulty remained the same!", but the reality of it is that they're going to likely be carried by Echo bonuses in the end and go right back to what feels familiar even if they aren't.

Differing skillsets

Differing abilities, (kids and handicapped play this game too you know)

Didn’t echo trigger on solo content if you kept dying before anyway? And if so how would this change anything? People just want to complain about anything it seems.

It's just another convenient excuse for people to complainbrag about how they're awesome players who are constantly being held back by bad ones. Trying to sell MSQ as an important skill wall is a huge reach even for these tryhards, though.

If you actually read the patch notes, these difficulty settings are much more powerful than the traditional echo we're used to, so this comparison doesn't hold up at all.

All I can say is, I hope none of the people defending this move are among those who bail immediately when Titania or Innocence pops because the DPS check fails so often in DF.... Right now, trials are the only thing you're forced to run with a group of real players in SHB, and you see how well they're already going.

I don’t think this is as big of a problem that you and others are making it out to be. I don’t believe there’s a huge wave of bad players being gated behind solo content and that this patch will burst the floodgates and we’ll be inundated and party content will be unable to be completed. I think this can go into that list along with the 5.0 healer changes as “things that killed the game but never materialized as bad as the doom sayers said it would”.

That was my first post in this thread, and I didn't say anything about it being a "big problem" let alone that it would be a thing "that killed the game," so how about you reign in the strawman for a minute?

I stated facts. Titania and Innocence in DF have a lower clear rate than some people find acceptable, to the point where they'd rather eat a 30 minute penalty than spend that time wiping to repeated DPS check failures. This is something that really does happen, it's observable, you can't debate this.

And I hope no one advocating for (essentially) the removal of solo DPS checks is among those who dread groups who can't clear things due to DPS checks.

If you bail on Titania, if you bailed on Shinryu when it was new content, if you lower your ilvl so you don't get Orbonne... you should not be supporting this change.

OP, I'm going to explain to you why this happened. Metrics and analytics, plain and simple. I don't think S-E has specifically commented on this, but developers on many other MMOs have said something to the effect of, "Players typically don't rise to the challenge. They give up and play something else." This is why the change happened. Yeah, it stinks for those of us (myself included) who want to weed out the bad players who already infest end game, but they likely saw far too many casual players hit a wall (in questing) and outright quit. This small, little change? That keeps those players, which makes better business sense for S-E.

As a player, I dislike the change as much as you do, but this is ALL about money and retaining players.

So, you expect new players who do a trial for the very first time to know everything and finish it flawlessly?
