With the introduction of af we have been given ability enhancements on gear. Several of these I will sacrifice for better stats. I think it would be nice to have some job specific materia be made from job specific weapons (when we get them, crafted ones not rare). They could also feature new enhancements that enhance class skills but can only be used on the job giving the jobs an extra advantage.
Some people may think its OP but for every enhancement materia you apply its one less stat based materia you can try for so you will still be sacrificing stats for enhanced skills.
I think it could be a good idea to have job specific belts. These belts would be the only spot for most job specific materia. By limiting most to one piece of gear you would be guaranteed 1 job enhancement. All job materia would be given grade %'s for mulit melding which means you would only have 1-3 max job enhancements at a time(average player)

As much as I like the general concept, I see a couple of issues with this idea:
- Job materia being a closed-system is somewhat contrary to the vision of materia being a broad customization platform.
- Ability Enhancements (eg. Reducing Jump Recast) could be very difficult to balance, esp in regards to forbidden melding.
The second issue is obviously the biggest one. If "Jump Materia IV" only drops the jump recast by 2 sec, people will pass it over for better materia. However, if it drops jump recast by 10 sec, then a 3-melded lance equals a 30sec reduction in the jump timer, which might considered overpowered.
I suppose it's workable, but there's a fine line between useless and broken.
Another option is to make the Job materia lock out all further melding. That would make things easier for balancing and force players to really make tough decisions on when and how to use it -- but that also is making exceptions to the rules of the current materia system.
For my part, I'd be fine if they just keep the bonuses on the Job-specific gear itself. -

I think with Job specific materia, it would be nice if they introduced spiritbonding rare/ex except when you bond it into materia you don't lose the equipment but the item in question gains a 24hr fatigue before you can spiritbond with it again.
In an example I used one where The Fighter's Burgeonet piece would offer the following
Bloodthirst IV +60 HP
Vitality I +5 VIT
Strength I +2 STR
Antagonize
From that when you bond with it the chance of getting each would be
Bloodthirst=25%
Vitality=35%
Strength=35%
Antagonize=5%
But as you mentioned they could also add crafted recipes which you would lose upon turning into materia but would have a higher chance of obtaining the materia like Antagonize, I think it would just come down to the gear being designed for "Marauder" only or "Gladiator" only in order for it to work since it would be a little odd if said materia would be able to come from a discipline of magic.
But ya I do hope they plan on expanding the materia system to add some unique enhancements rather then just stat boost, though before they can do that they do have to work on making materia less of an inventory clog then it is right now. -

And I could see that happening in 2.0
1. Being able to attach materia in a persons bazaar
Which opens up the possibility of....
2. U/U materia... NMs could drop super epic U/U materia...making it so you'd need an NM drop coupled with a crafted item... everyone's happy
3. Materia that is restricted to a single piece of gear instead of a single slot.
(i.e. a materia that can only go on Garuda's Bow. So nothing would be unmeldable, you just wouldn't be able to put normal materia on Primal weapons, and so on)
This would work well with your idea....
You do some super hard, super epic quest... and you get a crazy strong materia that can only be attached to the Gallant Surcoat that adds +40 def, +40 Vit, +25 Block, +120 HP, +40 Enmity
Now the gallant surcoat is better than the Heavy Darklight stuff... which would be fine as long as that Materia is insanely difficult to obtain. Some long term goals SE...
Like you'd have to turn in key items (With low drop rates) from all three strong hold bosses + all three dungeon bosses, and that unlocks a super hard HNM that drops the u/u gallant surcoat materia
I want 2.0 to be much more of an experience....
Like if you start playing a year after 2.0, I don't want there to be content and gear that you can just skip because it isn't relevant anymore... the basic stuff should be an informal pre-req to the advanced stuff
Think about it, if at 2.0 there was a materia that enhanced the Ifrit Battleaxe, making it still the best Axe, then people can't just jump in and go do that new dungeon to get the Materia.. they'd want to go do Ifrit first to even get the axe
Normally people do old content to get the pretty good gear to even challenge the new content... but SE has made it so you can challenge and beat any content with even mediocre gear and not really notice a difference -

^ My ideal solution would be to introduce NPCs in each DoH guild where a player could submit an order or 'player-leve' which could be filled by crafters.
The player would trade all required items to the NPC, post a reward, and pay an 'insurance' fee on the materials per leve attempt. (the insurance is lost rather than the materials if the synth fails).
A DoH player could then browse the list of available player-leves, and fill them to obtain the reward. The finished item would then be available for pick-up from the NPC, or sent to the leve-holder's mail box
This system would go far to connect DoH with customers and it would make the crafting guilds (rather than random bazaars) centers of business in their respective disciplines. In addition to crafting, it could be used for melding materia, crafting items with U/U materials, repairing and more -

Maybe some of these materia could drop from a dungeon? Good blend of dungeon grinding for the materia and other gear, plus taking the chance to multi-meld for more customized goods.
I guess some of this might even be expanded to classes too.
