Dancer idea.

I feel like Dancer would feel far more unique if it played somewhat like the hunting horn from monster hunter.

Instead of pressing what random dance move flashes
You combine different dance moves to get different buffs.

Green = health/regen
Red = damage / skill speed
yellow = damage resistance / parry / reflect
Blue = MP regen

I doubt they'd do this, but I don't disagree... However, I enjoy dancer as it is. I can't speak for anyone else and I haven't played it too much so I won't speak on that too much since I am no expert.

I guess spamming the same dance would be a problem. Unless they make it a combo based system. Or give a limit to how many times it can be used

Only change I want for Dancer is an adjustment to Closed Position and Standard Step.

I was so disappointed when I found out that swapping Dance Partner removed the bonus from Standard Finish... You've got a 30s cooldown on Standard Step and Closed Position, with the 5% damage buff lasting 60s... Just looking at that I thought it would be really fun to work on keeping Standard Finish up on two party members... I'd have so much more fun with the job if they just added that little bit of extra complexity to it... Let me work to get the full effect of that Standard Finish buff, right now I just find it really boring how it's effectively a case of apply Closed Position at the start and forget about it... It's not an active part of your rotation at all, and I'm fairly sure Protect was gutted for those reasons...

They don't need to do anything to Dancer.

The only thing DNC needs is adjustments to potency. But the way they’ve designed the job is perfectly fine. I don’t see the need to change the dance system.

Playability-wise: Dancer is in a really good spot and is very fun to play. The problem with having different confictive buffs is that people will invariably choose whichever helps DPS better, so a dmg reduction/hp/mp regen buff would be used for progression then promptly forgotten for a dmg up buff.

That said, yeah, some potency buffs would be very appreciated...

I like new idea's like yours so I 1+ the idea.
My problem though, remove any DPS buff related thing.
Some will be Dancing for DPS in that case.
It'll be just how AST was and people will swear that all of
us was fishing for Balance...But I don't wanna delve into that convo again here.

I do wish there was more variety in your dances. I think the job itself is okay I guess...but at the same time
it gets boring rather quick, because you're a perm DPS buffer with the occasionally Everybody gets a buff! dance.
The same reason why I don't touch AST anymore. I miss variety and different things to do in my runs.
I miss 4.0 BRD so bad as well. I'd keep Dancer as is if they just give me back my 4.0 Bard lol!

God, no. The steps function infinitely better than the current Mudra system. Why would you ask for them to be changed into a system that the developers are looking to change in 5.1?

I’d rather not a system that, with the slightest bit of lag, causes me to screw up my dance the way NIN Mudras can cause you to bunny. Besides, the system is being changed in 5.1, so it would make no sense to give it to DNC - which already has a well-functioning step system.

If we’re purely discussing likes, I like the current DNC system and dislike Mudras. Alas, we are now at an impasse.

Please just make it stronger. DNCs are getting locked out of PF because of their low DPS, even though their buffs are meant to make up for it (certainly doesn't feel like that though). It's a shame because this class has really clicked with me and I love playing it but speaking as someone who is always so self conscious about how I'm doing DPS-wise that feeling has only gotten worse since I've started maining it.

No thanks. I love it the way it is. It's my favorite dps. I don't want it change please. -.- Play ninja instead, thank you.
I'm getting tired to see some people wanting something to change but it is awesome as it is. And my voice matter like everyone else. Dancer is perfect as it is. I love the way we play dancer and making it more complicated won't make it better. The mundra is for ninja, not dancer.

Yep. It would not work unless they adjusted the game as a whole. People would just want to increase DPS (especially as a DPS), and the others would probably only be utilized in deep dungeon content, or something like eureka, and even then they would probably be niche.

Dancer is fine at the moment but if anything I only need just 1 simple DOT skill and that’s that.
I dunno about others but DOT skill is , somehow , keep my concentration in check, without it I feel like the job is missing something.Just my opinion, though.

Presumably, they’re going to change the way it functions. They haven’t released any details yet other than this change will implemented in Patch 5.1. No one knows what they’re going to do, but there are a few theories about them being either similar to DNC steps or GNB Continuation. There’s a live letter on the 15th, so maybe they’ll talk some about it then.

NO, Dancer doesn't need to have any DOTs >.< between Devilment/TS/SS we have quite enough to quick track of.

Im not a fan of the idea of Ninjas Mudras working like dancers steps.
I liked dedicating my D-Pad to my Mudras. I don't wanna have to Alternate between 2 sides of my Cross Bar for my next mudra because they tie it to a specific skill.
But well, just gonna have to wait till the next live letter coming up soon.

I like how dancer plays, for the most part. What is there is quite fun as it is.
As a few people have mentioned, I would love potency adjustments to things like curing waltz and so on.

Aside from that, I think it's fine for the most part. I'm a bit conflicted on Improvisation. On one hand, I don't so much mind that it's one of those "stand here and don't move" skills (sure is pretty, too). The esprit gain and heal buff is cool, but at the same time... ehhh... Idk, I'm a bit underwhelmed by it. I guess it's more the fact that I'm just not a big fan of those kinds of skills rather than some inherent flaw with the skill itself. Lastly, I wish they dance partner system were a bit more involved. I feel that there are inklings of that in abilities that depend on your dance partner's proximity to you or other party members but this could be pushed further somehow.

All that said, been really enjoying the job thus far!

You people do realize that asking for potency changes could also mean nerfs to both steps right?

The only think I would change is to increase the range of Technical/Standard Finish. Most of the time it feels like I have to step into the bosses hit box to hit him. 15y. is not that huge.

Not necessarily. DNC’s damage is so low they don’t have to nerf the steps. The steps only have such high potencies because of their set-up times, anyways: we lose GCDs and autos and the high potencies make up for that. The actual potency of the skill turns out to be lower because of the set-up time as well: Standard Finish is actually roughly a 400 potency attack because it takes 3.5 seconds to set up and execute (and 5 seconds to return to our normal rotation) - costing us GCDs, autos, and the ability to weave in our oGCDs should we have them.

All that said, DNC (and the other two physical ranged) need potency buffs. The physical ranged are ~11% behind all the other roles. The imbalance between DPS is, frankly, embarrassing; and all three can be buffed without any nerfs to their existing skills.

Idk what they’re going to do - if they’ll be like DNC steps or not. No one knows. These are all just speculations. If they are, time to learn them or rearrange your hotbars, I guess. What they do doesn’t really matter to me - I don’t play NIN nearly often enough for it to affect me.

What you've described sounds just like ninja, which we already have a job for.

God i hope not, that really would ruin DNC if they implement Ninja like.
The mudra system is very flawed, and depending on connection could be hell.
DNC only needs to be buffed, it is almost perfect the way they have implemented it

So since dnc, aesthetically speaking, is in the same "entertainment" bracket as bard, I'd like to see the ability to glamour the steps with the emote dances you have. That or a "performance" styled feature where you can chain emote dances together.

Dancer definitely needs tweaks to potency, but as mentioned before in this thread, all the physical ranged dps need some love. Dancer's probably the best off right now compared to Machinist and Bard, but it's still wanting preening. Mechanically-speaking, Dancer is solid. There doesn't need to be any changes to the way it plays. The dances are fine. Dot upkeep on Dancer sounds disgusting in the worst way and giving us the 'illusion' of picking what buffs we can give out when we know it'll just be demanded of us to give dps buffs all the time is, well, I think it speaks for itself.

My only problem is, as an omni-physical ranged dps player, I've always been asked to run Machinist even if I'm better at playing Dancer for that 'sweet dps.' Some people straight up don't see Dancer buffs worth the low dps it does and would rather take a grey Machinist because it still does more dps than a purple Dancer, for example. So I feel like that's something that needs to be addressed. I don't know how, or whether or not buffing Dancer's buffs over potency would be better, but this is the biggest hurdle that's being presented to me right now, anyway.

Make Saber Dance oGCD and then there would be nothing else I'd want out of Dancer.

As AST has shown and others in this thread have pointed out, giving a damage bonus among a bunch of support abilities would simply lead to a singularity where only the damage effects are valued. I think your system sounds fun, but if you wanted it to not get "default to only one buff" issue AST had:

-Make completing any dance sequence of buttons give a damage buff, so the buttons you'd choose would not change the dps contribution.
-Change your red to give a small shield, or give a damage down to nearby enemies.

With those changes, your theoretical system would result in same dps gain regardless of buttons chosen, but would have customizable buffs to give to the party based on the current situation in the fight.

Bads wont see the benefits of Technical/Standard Step. In other words, the buffs aren't strong enough to carry them through a fight, and Dancer's innate low DPS isn't strong enough to carry the load either.

I feel ffxiv's dancer would benefit greatly from ffxi's version of Sambas, instead of the 5 second panic button shield samba currently is, make it persist like tank stances, every time the dancer hits an opponent it afflicts that opponent with a shared debuff/buff that reprocs every time a party member affected by the buff hits that enemy. I believe Haste Samba was mentioned when SE started announcing content for dancer, not sure what happened to it but dnc would benefit from Haste, and drain sambas, maybe even other debuffs like paralyzing, Addling, and Viral sambas. Perhaps some elemental dances that inflict elemental damage on striking. Something to take my parties mind off the fact that my luck with feathers is sadly lacking in this fight, and help me as the dancer not feel as if nothing i'm doing is having any real impact. Also boost feathers, remove rng it didn't work for Mch it's not going to work for dancer give it up or give us a luck stat we can improve with gear.

Also the grunting please i'm using steps and my miqo who has the singing voice of an angel, sounds like she just took a fist to the gut, was knee'd in the groin, and is possibly a 60 year old asthmatic smoking a pack a day. Get rid of it, or dub another sound over it. Also dancer exclusive gear sets get us off Bard/Machinist gear, immersion is important? Well stop dressing my dancer in full length robes, and other nonsense, Japanese dancers may dress in full body armor in the US flexibility and freedom of motion are important, less is more. They did it for ninja, they did it for Dragoon, Dancer actually makes the most sense to have unique armor styles that fit the aesthetic. Yes we can glam, no there are not enough dancer appropriate glam items in game. Yes I have them all I am positive, I work hard at the real endgame.

No i'm not trolling, I like everyone else have my own image of what my dancer should look like, how it should perform, and what I'd want it to do. As it is the job is well set up, but it suffers from lack of personal dps which invites bullying from the toxic toad community of parser demons whose opinions sadly carry more weight than legions of dancer players screaming "all is fine, the steps are making up for it." The fact is the steps are not making up for it, Dancer has to compete, hard, to not be relegated to the sidelines. Every dance, every move we have to force out as much dps as we possibly can just to pull half our weight in an 8 man group. God help us if we have a string of bad luck, or our closed position partner is a moron, and keeps dying to mechanics over, and over again. There is little forgiveness, things are much too tight for a job as whimsicle as dancer that should scream individual creativity, and freedom of motion. Unless of course you just, let go, but then you'd never get anything done.
