I too hope we get more Emet-Selch.
Reveal that Hades and our original self were in a relationship and I'll buy an entire year's sub.
He can stay dead, but please- flashbacks. Echo. Something.
I need more of him.
Emet-Selch became my favorite Villain in Final Fantasy game, he's so amazing, charismatic, stylish and more. I hope we see more of him, i'm so sad he's dead now :(, ShB bring many wonders to us and the villain is one between many more.
#Emet-Selchdidnothingwrong :'(
Top 5:
> Emet-Selch
> Caius Ballad
> Ardyn Izunia
> Ultimecia
> Kuja
:3
Wouldn't mind this but only so long as it's a choice. I don't mind people wanting something like this for their WoL/D but this wouldn't be for mine. Loved Emet and The Exarch but not enough to be paired with them in such a manner. I'm also hoping we get more of Emet through the echo or something. I was surprised the most by how things concluded with him, in the 5.0, when I initially thought we'd be having a blast with this guy until at least 5.3 or so.
He was a great antagonist and it was wonderful to see the Ascians established to be grey rather than black in their morality. With that said, I think it would cheapen Emet-Selch if he returned somehow. I'd like to see more of him through Echo flashbacks though!
I would love to see him in Flashbacks but bringing him back would feel wrong. Although I was heartbroken when he left....
Emet is best boi. I actually think he's the first antagonist I really loved in FFXIV.
...I still remember despising Asahi so much, I'm glad that little insect is gone. I didn't despise him like a good villain should be hated. He was just so annoying to me lol
Emet is an actual character, which is probably why. Asahi's entire schtick was "am yandere. u keeled senpai, I keel u". I don't necessarily have a problem with such figures as even they have a place, but he wasn't even interesting or entertaining in that regard. For me it was just "good, he's dead" and he was immediately forgotten.
Emet had me teary eyed even as I knew he needed to be stopped, and I lament the lack of a minion.
... No, really, minion please, SE.
Don't you just love antagonists that should be logically killed as soon as possible but you can't because the writers won't let you?

Honestly Asahi bothered me more because SE forced otherwise rather intelligent characters to behave like morons simply to make him work as a villain. He'd have been a lot more effective if his betrayal wasn't so obvious from the start - from the sudden appearance of Red Kyojin so far inland to his way too 'kind' attitude. He had 'twist villain' written all over him and it just got insufferable watching otherwise competent characters lose their intelligence to add any threat to Asahi's agenda. Because if Hien or the twins actually been /thinking/ the entire debacle with Tsuyu could have been avoided entirely.
Half the fun of Emet for me was that the writer trusted our intelligence as players and never once diminished the main cast to make him 'work'. It's so refreshing and I really hope that they continue to give us more antagonists of his caliber in the future.
Asahi was horrible, sure, though it would have looked very bad on Doma's part if they executed a diplomat right then and there. The attempt at forging peace between Doma and Garlemald was a genuine one - Asahi was simply a compromised element. I did find myself disappointed that he was so unhinged, though. Still, we got Maxima out of it all so hopefully something better will come out of him.
Best Final Fantasy villain so far.

Pretty much, yeah. It just felt so forced. When he turned evil I litteraly remember being like 'well yeah of course, whatever'. It wasn't interesting nor surprising. I actually thought SE was getting lazy with their villains lol
But then ShB came out and oh dear was I wrong. I hope we see more of Emet-Selch, throught flashbacks or the Echo, because bringing him back would just ruin the whole emotional ending we already got.
It wouldn't be hard to make it look like an accident. He willingly challenges those Rhino Beetle, all we gotta do is feed his body to one of the Beetles and the Empire wont be able to determine a proper cause of death. Their supposed ambassador for peace is promising a "reckoning" anyway so there's no reason let them play their game anymore.
The Empire itself was unaware of his deception, though. Varis wasn't pleased when he was given the news that Asahi's presence was but another Ascian scheme at play. Sure, the Domans could have orchestrated his demise and passed it off as an 'accident' but then they'd have no high ground to stand on in the future if someone played the same trick on them in the future. Their hands were tied. I'd also note that there was the additional complication of the prisoner exchange to deal with. If Asahi was slain right then and there, it very likely would not have gone through.
To the people wanting a minion, we already have one.
It drops from the MSQ 80 dungeon, if the connection wasn't already clear enough.
I would like to see more history on him as well. I'm not really looking forward to facing 'mr blonde' yet again. It will be interesting to see if the devs can keep the depth of story rolling beyond the initial punch that's gotten them so much praise thus far this expansion.
I think Zenos works as a 'force of nature' sort of antagonist, but I do agree that after Emet going back to such a one note foe isn't very appealing. Yeah there's Elidibus but I kinda get the feeling they're saving him for last. I was intrigued though by the recent Gamescom lore panel where someone asked what Lahabrea's true name was and the dev's emphatically refused to answer. Makes me think we're definitely going to get more in game lore about the three 'main' Ascians soon.
I am stil in mourning. I don't like 'back from the dead - surprise!' Scenarios because I agree with the statement others have made, they cheapen the original emotional impact. However in this case I would forgive SE lol. I want Emet back more than I care about critical thinking!
They get rid of the good ones way to early.
Ysayle, Yotsuyu, Emet Selch...
And then we have the other ones, that should be explored because they could have great storylines or were set up to be great characters, but SE just kills em or ignores them
Ilberd, Regula van Hydrus, Runar, Magnus, Ran'jit, Blue/Red Jongleurs...
And the annoying, face palmy cringy ones overstay their welcome
Zenos, Lolorito, Zenos, Omega, Zenos, Alphinaud, Zenos, Crystal Exarch, Zenos…
Frankly Ishtola could be on this list too, she is just so holier than thou that she has become more of an annoyance than anything.
SE has a thing for cringy, emo villains with big swords tho so its no surprise they kept Zenos alive. He is just such a flat, one dimensional character that feels like he jumped out of the pages of some bad tween fanfic.
Emet Selch especially was so well written and given such a personality in the short time he was part of the cast that he feels like he's been a part of the story the whole time. He literally felt like an old friend. Which is no small feat in the world of writing.
OMG
I LOVE THIS O________O
Yeh those 'deaths' feel cheap, no one thought Y'shtola was dead I Raktika - but hey we got more Emet Action trough that!
That being said, in Emet's case I wouldn't mind him not being dead, at all - I love his looks, I love his attitude, I love his storyline and the voice actor is AMAZING
Easily best villain that made me root for Ascians, whom I thought boring and one dimensional before - it all reminds me of a certain wolf from Dragon Age: Inquisition and I LOVE IT
Yeh, I hardly believe they are unaware of how popular of a character he is... If they still move on, I'm fine with every fanservice we can get
At this point, I would agree for anything already. After hearing that we're not getting a minion and first Tales story not being about him and setting the trend for other ones most likely I feel like they are specifically trying to torture Emet's fans... They can't NOT be aware of how hugely popular he is!
PLEASE give us something! (Preferably real merchandise if we can't have him back in game!)
I will trade the G’raha minion for Emet Selch minion anytime any day. He feel way more “human” than many of those main NPC. He is not doing his villainy for stupid reason like Zenos. I can’t smile like Alphinaud does after the fight. I take no joy in it. I knew he have to be defeated, but he just more broken soul than any of us, the lose he endure, the tragic he live over and over again turn him into this twisted mind Emet today.
I must say this patch SE doing very good job at building villain, both Emet Selch and lord vauthry even Ran'jit have a very deep and rich background. On the other hand the good guy feel so much shallower compare to them
Don't mind him coming back in previous life flashbacks though.
Pretty good tour guide!
While I get what you're saying, consider Arbert. While not in a relationship, he is a part of us. And Laimitt(Lamitt?) wanted that D so bad. Is that upsetting to you? Because it's literally the same logic. Our original self is not really us but something we once were with entirely different thoughts, appearance, memories, everything. The kid from the 14th is also a part of us. We, the WoL/D are not a child either nor did we share the same parents as said kid.
If Hades had a fling/thing/anything with who we used to be, it is not us personally. But as the player, you could accept or deny this as feelings carried over without diminishing that aspect.
One of my faves as well. There's something that has to be said about a villain that just drops right in and hangs out with the good guys, basically "So, where you guys off to today? Gonna go save some villages? Mind if I tag along?" The villains I'm used to aren't even present until they're actually attacking, or otherwise threatening. Nice of Squeenix to think outside the box.
We don't know that for certain - it's just an assumption people have made since they're now trying to pick who might be our other soul-shards, and Unukalhai has been waiting for further plot developments for two expansions now.
(Also, to be nitpicky, he's from the Thirteenth. There isn't a fourteenth, just thirteen and the Source.)
Loss and loneliness. The same for Arbert. Both were in situations of being essentially alone until we came along. Emet would have had us at his side to get the world back and have true comrades again, and Arbert had someone to talk to. And I think anyone can relate to missing a friend.
Emet-Selch as an antagonist has set the bar quite high for future adversaries. It kinda pisses me off to have him ending his story arc at the end of 5.0 and now we're back to "I'm evil lmao" Zenos. I'm hoping we see more about the Ascians, specially both Lahabrea and Elidibus. He was a great character, with a soul, very well developed. So the current ranking is:
1) Emet-Selch.
2) Gaius.
3) Error 90002
4) Thordan
5) Nidhogg
107) Zenos
Yes... and snarky.
Or perhaps it's the: 'dedicating the rest of his life to doing what he feels to be best for his people, even thousands of years later, in the hope that he might one day see them again' bit that was omitted from your list?
You don't have to agree with a character to be able to sympathise and relate to them.
