I duo'd up with my boyfriend and then we took turns in who went bluemage and who came on a real level 70 job - we always asked in FC-chat if anyone wanted in and just let them come as bluemage only. I recall doing 2 hours of Garuda with a full FC-group - 7 bluemages and me on scholar... it wasnt fun...
All in all it took us a week to get all the spells for my boyfriends bluemage, I didnt bother with mine to much because I dont really care.
Best advice: Do the stuff with people you can trust to get your own spell aswell and take as many bluemages as possible
Depends on the spell. Self-Destruct was hell because we had around 30 people camping around the bombs and would purposefully kill them so people couldn't see the attack.
I joined PF groups that were listed as seeking specific spells at a 4/4 trade rate which was common at the time. Half the party would go in on 70 level jobs and demolish the mobs while the other hand BLU hopefully learned. Every so many runs (5 sometimes 10) the group would switch. Ideally all would stay til everyone learned, which happened most of the time in my experience. However many others reported far sadder outcomes.
This was also a week or so after BLU release when things were much busier also. I'd wager it's a slower road now, especially so close to the expansions new content.
124 Shiva kills.
I don't remember how long they took, but it was a teeth-grindingly long time.
Humorously, though, I got Hellfire from Ifrit Normal on my first attempt after the patch.
But that's not a Trial spell. I wound up getting that one from Halatali in the end to avoid griefing, though.
74 garuda kills
12 Titan kills
132 Ifrit kills (100 of those from ifrit normal before bug was fixed)
2 Leviathan kills
67 Ramuh kills
15 Shiva kills
Suffice to say it really is just rng if you are lucky or unlucky to get it, i typically did it with randoms but that was when everyone was doing it nowadays try grabbing 1 lv80 friend since they can kill all solo no problem now.
Around 150 runs of Ifrit. Haven't hated myself enough to go back for the rest.
For me Shiva was the worst one (Had about 90-ish diamond dusts in my item bag), but when I did finish up I was making 1/7 parties a lot where I was scholar and everyone else was blu. If people were dumb I'd refuse to rez them
I went with a group that was 7 BLU 1 max level for Ramuh's spell. We got it our 2nd go, so a few people dropped, we picked up more BLUs and helped the guy who tanked for us.
It took over 3 hours to get this guy his skill. Easily 150+ runs. It was beyond ridiculous.
I think it took 20+ runs for Ifrit and Ramuh and around a dozen for Shiva.
Didn't bother with the other primals since I didn't need their skills to do a full rotation properly.
I mildly dread the inevitable grind of the six HW primals + maybe Nidhogg for their new skills.
Shiva was the first and last trial I did for the skill
We did in party with a 4/4/4 rotation (4 blumages, 4 capped other people, 4 tries per group). I was in the second rotation. My group got it on the second try, so we swapped.
That poor first group. I was the last of the people who tried to help the first group at the 12th run before finally giving up. I felt bad but I had to go.
I never did any other trial after that. The rng method is terrible. I've said it before and I'll say it again: what SE should've done is give a 100% rate on skills provided you're in a party of blumages, -5% per non-blumage. This would've made the content more "engaging" because people would be motivated to do the content with fellow blumages and at least get a sense of well-derserved reward, rather than get a friend at capped level to spam ad nauseam an instance just to get the skill. Especially when you consider the end goal is to basically partake of the Masked Carnival.
I got most of them the first weekend BLU was available to play. I found a group in PF for the dungeon spells (running 4 BLU), then we got more people for the trial spells where we did 4/4 runs, swapping every 5 until everyone had the spells we were chasing. We didn't manage to get all of the trial spells because some of us had to stop after 18 hours of spell grinding. I've since gotten a couple more of them (the one from Binding Coil and Leviathan) with random pug groups farming the spells, but I'm actually still short a few. I tend to keep an eye on PF for groups grinding the relevant instances for the purpose of completing my spellbook.
I'm hoping that when the new spells come out my friends from that original BLU group will be up for the grind. Because after spending that much time together there was no way we weren't going to add each other to our friends lists.
Once the Ifrit bug was fixed, only like 6 runs for normal. However I burned myself out trying before I knew it was a bug and had little drive to get more
Tried Shiva for 3 days, 4 hours per days.
The next day I decide to stop playing BLU altogether.
I’m not supposed to waste this much time for just one BLU spell.
I helped my friend get the Shiva skill, and it took FOREVER. I did the same thing except I didn't even get the skill, got bored leveling it (level 16), saw the RNG on Shiva, and was like.... HECK TO THE NO! Haven't touched it since. I don't even know what I did with my BLU weapon...
Shiva took me..78 kills, Ramuh took me 65 and I gave up never tried again never will because they're just not worth the effort.
This pretty much sums up my experience. I managed to get Titan and Ifrit thankfully because I had 3 party members that were super cool with helping me out getting my primal spells. But I just couldn't take it anymore after Shiva.
That fact that all of them had to carry me just to unlock ONE stupid spell for each trial just made me lose it and quit BLU.
I gave up on certain ones (Shiva)
But when I was farming, i'd see multiple horses, crafting mats, Nightmares, etc and never see a BLU spell.
It is pretty ridiculous. All for a spell that is a carbon copy of another spell
I thought all blu spells should have been soloable, either out in the world, or special masked carnival trials. So adding their abysmal learn rates, I never bothered going after a single one. I got blu to 50, got most of the spells and called it quits.
Having picked the game back up shortly before SB, it's pretty much safe to say I missed the train for primal farming spells, nor did I have any friends left to try and mooch some kills on. Trying to set a PF group for them (or Glower, honestly) was also unsuccessful the few times I tried and by then SB hit and you know most everyone was focusing on that. Otherwise, with the rates some people are posting, asking a friend or two to take them out almost feels like punishing the friend when it all translates to hours for a single spell. Whatever they plan to do to BLU soon, I wouldn't object to the primals just getting an effigy added to their loot pools or exchangeable with a few unique drops to streamline the process. If not, they really need to let us use the DF.
I have no BLU Primal skills.
I did a few runs for fun with FC, but since you can beat the Carnival without them and the weekly challenges serve little purpose, there was no reason at all to farm them.
I mean, be carried through Shiva 150 times to get one ability that might be useful in a tedious challenge for a few seals... or do the Hunt which rains tomes, multiple types of seals and materia on you. Tough choice.
I got to 50 and gained several trial skills before I gave up in exasperation. Getting people for the farms isn't fun for anyone and that should have been one of the first things they solved. When getting abilities is an absolute chore, I would far rather waste my time on something actually fun.
I have only managed to snag Ifrit and that was not for lack of trying.
I wouldn't be nearly as perturbed by this if the process involved simply queueing for Trial Roulette or the hardmode fights manually, instead of having to grab a level 70-80 friend and watching him solo the fight while I uselessly spam White Wind.
I have since shelved the job, because I like playing the actual FFXIV, not a hollowed-out shell of FFXIV that I can only engage with through party finder.
I'll let you know after I finally decide to finish leveling my BLU... <_<
