what is it with people (mainly lalafell players) and thinking it's "hehe nya cute x3333 ^W^" to flood the chat with damn emotes

and yes, i do blacklist them, only issue is someone else then starts spamming it

for god sakes, if you're gonna be obnoxious as all hell at least uncheck the 'log message', or you'll just get reported from people

there was a thread like a week or 2 ago about someone getting a temp ban for spamming emotes either accidentally or not. so, yeah, its bannable if true.

Yes. I did that with the appartment next to mine. Cooking, talking loudly on the balcony at 2.a.m was obnoxious. The cops I called thought the same and I got them in trouble. There is a border between being just a bit annoying and obnoxious on purpose.

You know, the point of GMs is what in real life are courts: One person is X, the other person thinks Y, and a third independent party is Z.
Prosecutor is X, defendant is Y, and the court/judge is Z.
I am calling the cops (Z) because I think the neighbours are too loud (X), and neighbours thought they are fine with their volume. (Y)
Reporting annoying and obnoxious Lalafell (Y) because the player is annoyed by them (X) and a GameMaster (Z) will clear the situation.

When someone honks an air horn right into your face constantly or blasting loud music in his car with open windows in front of your house, would you just let it happen because reporting it is whimpy or whatever your train of thought is?

I disagree with that mindset. Is it annoying when people fill up the chat box with useless stuff like emotes, sure. But so what? As long as they are not filling it up with racial slurs and hateful comments I fail to see a problem other than a few other people getting annoyed.

Making too much noise in an apartment complex, considering their are actual laws regarding a private citizens right to privacy/not to be disturbed after certain hours/etc., is something completely different than emotes in a video game. Emotes in a game =/= blowing an airhorn in your face. Let's be real here.

Also, GM's are not the equivalent of real life courts, the situations are no where close to an actual legal system, especially if you live in the U.S.A. because there is no such thing as hate speech. We have complete freedom of speech here, the only way you get into trouble for speech in the US is if you are inciting violence or putting people in a dangerous situation (i.e. yelling fire in a crowded place when there is no fire). SE is not a publisher, they do not have publisher rights, they cannot be sued by person X for what person Y says in in-game chat. The chat falls under public forum, where in countries that have protected freedom of speech, you cannot legally get into trouble for what you say unless you are inciting violence.

If someone is playing loud music and blowing air horns that violate a noise ordinance or the quiet time laws for a city, yes they are breaking a law and should be in trouble. If some dude is standing off my property and blowing kisses at me all day, he's not breaking a law, he is being annoying.

If it is okay for one guy to spam the chat log it is also okay for the 30 people around to do so.

They have no respect for other people and so we shouldn't have any for them.

I believe that attitude is what is wrong with a lot of the world today. Just because other people are being jerks should not make it okay for you to be a jerk to them. That instigates a never ending cycle of people being petty and cruel to each other. Oftentimes people are annoying because they are looking for attention. Just don't give them the attention.

What I don't understand, is your needless contrarianism in an attempt to take a moral high ground over a very clear cut example of disruptive behavior, something that's against the game's ToS.

I am not attempting to take any moral high ground or moral superiority. If my statements came across that way, then I would like to state that that was not my intent. What I have a problem with is when people confuse a companies ToS agreement with a person's right to speak. A ToS will always fail in the court of law when it's up against a person's basic human rights.

I don't like when people annoy me either. I don't like when people fill chat logs with useless emotes. But I will always defend someone's right to do those types of things as long as they are not truly hurting another person. I don't care about people's feelings as much as I care about their basic rights.

In this day and age we are seeing more and more examples of companies who claim to be a public forum and then trample the rights of people who participate in that public forum, all in the name of a ToS agreement. I think it's wrong. And I really don't understand why people seem to let is slide so often. If the communities of these public forums don't stand up for their rights to freedom of speech, then pretty soon their will be none.

Some may think this is just a game forum, or a chat within in a game, but it's really more than that.

I know someone who's been playing for like 5 years and didn't know he could turn off the emotes in the menu. Back when I was new, I was also under the assumption it had to be made a custom macro to get rid of the text. Some people just do not know because there's nothing pointing to turn it off.

This didn't need a thread. We get petty complaints in this joke of a forum but my god this takes today's cake (but the day is still young). I'll hold out hope that OP is just bored and thought to add more trash to the heap of GD and not actually such a child that people emote spamming gets under their skin so much that they had to cry off the rooftops about it.

This is legit why I make my grand company Immortal Flames so I don't have to deal with the cesspit that is 'Limsa'.
And the one alt that does has Limsa has tickets to teleport to GC desk so I don't have to deal with that crowd.

Emote spamming is disgustingly obnoxious and irritating. It's alright to have a laugh and whatnot. But when you're doing it to just bother people, just no.

If someone reports you for spamming (and you actually did spam) you will get a warning. I have gotten a warning for spamming a silent emote in gridania with chat log off, they don't care. My friend spammed some emotes the otherday and got pulled into prison during raid and got a warning.

Honestly emote spamming -insert race here- is annoying.

You can't really follow the conversations you're having with you Ls or FC. It's not exclusive to Lalas.

I normally either leave or if i have the energy ask them to stop. If they don't I just report and move on. Life's too short to get hung up on annoying people.

Only way I can see that even kind of sort of being reasonable is if you were like, spam slapping someone or following them around to emote in their face. Which... I mean that's it's own kinda weird. But. Yeah.

Seems a tad silly to get banned for when the solution is to just walk away or blacklist them. Though I rarely use blacklist so dunno if it stops the emotes too. However with this said, it would almost seem like you could get in trouble for playing the Bard instruments poorly or just cus someone "Finds it annoying"

There's a lot of things that bother me in FFXIV, but emote spamming isn't one of them. Do I find it annoying? A bit, yes - though it's easy enough to resolve. Aside from blacklisting the player I can also just mute the game itself or move elsewhere. I'd only report them if they proceed to follow me after I have moved. Most of the time, the emote spamming isn't directed at me though - it's just something happening between other players who seem to be having a bit of goofy fun.

I think it's a very unfortunate reflection of the mentality of many playing this game. If someone is doing something dumb in a dungeon or out in the game world I take the time to consider that they may just be having a 'silly moment' or having a bad day. I only report people if they're crossing some major boundaries and even then I don't see them dealt with nearly as harshly as those who are 'easy targets'.

Yet, to me, it seems as though quite a lot of players are a bit too easily offended by trivial matters and are all too eager to seek disproportionate vengeance just because they know they can exploit the rules to silence those they dislike, even if they don't have a full picture of what those individuals are actually like.

Some of the best people I have met in this game have been outwardly goofy and brash whilst the worst have appeared to be friendly and rule abiding on the surface. Just my two penny's worth.
