Is this really FUN in 2012 ?! A reassuring Dev's answer if possible?

FFXIV 2.0 is an ambitious and big project that everyone hope in (i left my old FFXI - WoW friends for XIV) , it has to compete with upcoming major mmorpg... In a period while action mmo are becoming the standard... From the current game we get this:

I know that with 2.0 will bring us new engine and server. But Ifrit, or even the old batraal got better and more modern mechanics...
Or even old WoW vanilla fights are more dynamic and fun, this looks like an XI fight in HD.. An encounter anchored to the past that looks kinda boring and lame (10 mins of spamming action and magic in the same SAFE point.. Is this FUN for you? )

It was so hard to let sand trap, spawn random in the whole area..? Or to make pop the thunder cloud random on 1 member of the pt? so This didn't penalyze the ranged vs melee war? I don't think that 2.0 engine/servers were needed for this... *mumble mumble*

Same is with the Ant and Mistress... (Only Coincounter feels a bit more "fresh" )

When my friends saw the chimera fight video they laughed at me.. (they're on SW doing nightmare mode now, and i'm the only one still on XIV ) .. And the only thing that i could do was agree with them.. after i did so many hard fights with them (like Lich King HM first italian kill on WoW) chimera looks simply "old and boring" :mad:

So devs, can you assure us that 2.0 will bring us more fun, challenging and fresh encounter? At least at the same level that old and current mmorpg offers? Please?

Please don't write replies like go to play wow again, or SW, or anything "white knightish" , this is a serious thread, and i'd like to know what this comunities think about this. Thank you! :o

Was no ones fault but scrubs who call selves leets cause they can use 6 archers to be safe from the mob to do dmg :)

They honestly need to add more mechanics that punish long range players.

As i said, they could simply make random spawn, or under characters the sand vortex.... Was so hard to think this as a programmer?

The boss mechanics in the game are sorely lacking. I'm fairly new, so I've only seen a few, mostly DH and the job battles, but with what I've participated in, and the videos I've seen, they do not impress.

I am willing to tolerate it for now, as I know the devs are trying to balance a lot of things at once. All new MMOs tend to go through these problems, and FFXIV is even worse off due to where it started from. I can only say wait it out and hope that things get better.

I don't think you can judge the game on 1 boss fight.

darkhold has been severally nerfed. Its more of a casual friendly dungeon now. Tanks can just stand in front of batrals lasers now, you used to have to avoid them while making sure you didnt face him towards your party cause they would one shot pretty much anyone except the tank.

Also job battle are not meant to be endgame content, its progression content. If they made it too hard people would complain about not being able to progress their jobs.

That's true Jinko but the problem is you can just throw 6 archers @ it which is dumb. They need to make close range DD do hell of a lot more dmg or make more traps from ppl who like to sit back and fiddle their thumbs.

That's a problem with the way the game is, not the content.

In most MMO's you pick one class and you stick with it, or you make a new character and level a new class, so in those situations you either go on your main class or you switch to a alt character.

In FF11 people used to throw BLM's and SMN's at bosses all the time, FF14 is worse because you can change whenever.

I am huge fan of being able to change job between battles but I can't see them fixing this issue with stacking classes/jobs any time soon if ever, because players will always abuse the easiest strategy.

Like I said in a previous thread the only way to do this is if people stack too many of one class to remove "strength in numbers" or something.

Normally I'm not really in favour of penalising players, but I think its the only way you will get people to stop class stacking... even then they may still do it if the advantage of class stacking out weights the loss of the buff.

No dev is going to answer this thread, ever. Sorry to disappoint you. The game is "boring" and it's going to stay "boring" until 2.0 where it may or may not still be "boring".

If you're looking for gameplay that other games offer then play other games. No one is stopping you, nor forcing you to play this one. I prefer UO, personally.

I know that DH is older and nerfed, but I don't think we should be able to literally run through and ignore mobs. And even though the job bosses aren't endgame, they shouldn't reward the tank for kiting things all over the place (like around and around that tree in WHM R50), especially now that healers need to stay more stationary. It feels really wacky to me. @_@

Well there is other ways to kill that WHM fight, I for example went in with 5 WHM's and we each soloed one, raising eachother when we got one shot, it was a total blast.

As I said above players will always abuse the easiest strategy.

you only have to run past the mobs if your going for speed. But if you do you wont get 5 chest at the end. Thats only 1 dungeon, in cutters cry you have to kill everything and they even made the dungeon into a puzzle.

It's just a shame, I think. I don't want the bosses to become super hard, but a bit more variety would make the encounters so much more fun.

I think people are doing it just for the AF, and they want to do it quickly. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to put it in DH. People still get hit by the mobs chasing us, and I can't heal them if they keep moving (which they need to, I guess).

I suppose it's something I just have to deal with in hopes that future instances and quests will be set up better.

Well go back and play WoW :) I love playing this "joke". I hate people thinking FFXIV needs to be like every other MMORPG. This is Final Fantasy. Get it, darn!!

Oh playing Chuck Norris in WoW with 1997 graphics makes me so horny, I couldnt laugh when I see it - its too sad to be a joke.

While I will sometimes say this as a joke, it really isn't a valid response. A lot of people play this game because they love Final Fantasy. They want to support the game and they'd like to see it succeed. They would like to see it become more respectable and for it to be as enjoyable as possible. Also, the game doesn't have to be exactly like other MMOs in order to provide us with fun and variety. However, in order to make money, yes, it will need to become more like WoW in certain ways. It's pretty much unavoidable, and I bet my bottom dollar that is what will end up happening with a lot of the game's systems.

e.g. we will have content finder, bags for inventory, various mounts, more quests and other leveling options, streamlined crafting, an even more WoW inspired UI (the current one is similar to WoW as it is); we have rested exp bonuses already, instanced raids, and even a "cataclysm" on its way

The game is already like WoW to some extent, and it will only become more like it as 2.0 approaches.

Well the close range melee can do all the damage in the world, it doesn't matter if they're dead. Dead players don't win boss fights. They need to stop making combat so hazardous to non tanking melees or start making it a hell of a lot more dangerous for ranged. It's the content, not the classes themselves, that is the problem here imo. There's just as many ways to make a fight equally lethal for ranged classes, but SE just doesn't seem to have had that epiphany yet.

I'd agree with OP if all boss fights were to be like that, but it's nice to have a variety of fight types.

Each single encounter does not have to be a different puzzle. It's fun to have simple, more classic fights once in a while, as a part of the diversity of the overall content

If they really do, they would ask for more story, atmosphere or Final Fantasy content to make the game feel more like Final Fantasy and they would less ask for more action and e-dick stuff. Just my opinion. There are better ways to support the devs than saying it is still a joke. I really enjoy the game and I cant say there is no challenge in it.

Seriously: why should someone who loves Final Fantasy compare FF to WoW? There is no reason for me to do that. The devs did many changes to the BS and its playable and makes a lot of fun. I want to play FF with commands as it ever was and not hack and slay? oO

Right. I have left friends that i met 7-8 on XI (then wow) years ago for keep playing this game.. You can't simply say go back and play WoW :) ... I have high expectation for 2.0 ... And i hope that it will really succeed... But for this we need modern mechanics... So i'm sorry but i can say 100 times, atm the whole game feels "old" and i know that some niche players like it even in the realease status >.> ... But a game can't stay alive with 10,20,30k players... So they need to make something of completely new, offcourse i don't want a wow clone (i never said this), but some of his mechanics are a standard.. So we need them.

Who says they aren't asking for those things, too? But those things will not keep the game going or pull in new players, that's what I'm trying to explain to you. It is possible for FFXIV to remain very much a FF game, while still implementing more modern MMO features.

Ifrit can be lethal to ranged.

Coincounter can be lethal to ranged if they don't watch what they are doing. (people stack ranged in that fight because melee just seem to be slow when it comes to running out of danger)

You sure can. I see post after post of people claiming that "X" situations needs to be more like "Y" situation in FFXI or WoW, including youself. That's not the prob the prob is WHM/CNJ's cant even bother to heal melee if they take dmg. with pld you do not need 2 whm/cnj to heal a tank pld can heal for 1k hp its self almost. The thing with ppl using all archers/blm cause they can't heal more than one person cause most whm's fail. Jinko is one the best whm's i played with he heals everyone and does not die for it. Like i said this problem lies within the community it's self.

I spent 20 minutes not having fun in a game that gives me hundreds of hours worth of other content I could try. Thus I question how fun the game is as a total.

I was hoping that ranged types wouldn't be able to fight in water. (kinda wouldn't make sense). Like during the leviathan fight, I would be cool if we had a boat, while leviathan could hit the boat and send enemys aboard to fight the rangers.

I would like to see mechanics that punish players for having more than 2 ranged standing in one spot, or mechanics that require the player to move ever 4-5 second.

Mechanics where if you stay still too long the DoT effect becomes stronger effectively killing you if you don't keep active during the fight.

In WoW healers are rarely standing still and they can't cast and move at the same time either.

Lol what? This is the epitome of what old WoW vanilla fights were like. Tank & spank, wave of mobs, tank & spank. Pretty sure you can't even count the number of vanilla bosses that did this on both hands. Blizzard has seldomly moved away from this model too ;\ They do mix it up and it's way better for sure, a lot more environmental + movement based fights, which I do agree Ifrit has.

I think they need to be careful though with making more fights like Ifrit seeing as how animation lag destroys everyone except JPs. Coincounter is also a good example, it's a very simple and subtle mechanic, but it requires much more focus then really any HNM required in XI. However, once again animation lag kills people with that on our side. I've been nearly all the way back on the other side of the room and still get hit by 100 ton swing.

I really am tired of playing BLM/THM ARC/BRD for all the bosses I encounter.
I would like to kill bosses on DRG without being punished for being close ranged melee.

The jobs are balanced...the battles are not.

I play whm a lot and moving and healing is pretty fun. Even tho you can't run and cast it still pretty simple to do. I'll say it again Jinko is one the best whm's i played with cause he does a good job @ keep ppl alive no matter what. Too many whm's in this game wanna stand in one spot and do nothing.

Exactly. People act as if MMOs still don't follow this same rule. You can't channel, move, and cast at the same time. The only exception is by having a trait learned which penalizes the spell being channeled(less damage, less hp, longer cast time , etc).
