Balmung's getting hit pretty bad too, along with Malboro (judging by our dcing tank).
same, famfrit just died
Is it actually DDoSing or just the servers under heavy load?
My entire potd group was spiked.. and then fc started lighting up at the same time.
We lost one guy to dc in my party, then it quit for a bit only to start up all over again. This time my entire fc was kicked offline and then my potd party. I was almost done my 10 set of floors and I'm pretty growly about that /sigh. Time wasted.
Small Indie company & Unfixable Spaghetti Code™
Same on Hyperion.
I doubt savage brings in people by the bucket loads, but certainly no small amount. Just not, fresh new expansion, amount.
Very likely ddosing or some someone tripped over a cabled in the DC.
No confirmed statement about DDoSing... but the symptoms are there, it's patch day, and it's been a full week since Blizzard last reminded us they still exist (kidding, not kidding). All the signs point to it.
Yeah, Behemoth
Same with Goblin, all day so far.
I wondered how SE easy weak when DDOS attack every times. I'm ex wow player. It was very rare DDOS on WoW.
Hoped SE do more "shield" stronger block from DDOS attack.
*dies laughing* Oh this is amusing. As an Ex-WoW player I remember when WoW would be brought to its knees for an entire week when groups decided to target it with DDoS. The Lizard Squad era was a dark time for WoW. There is only so much that can be done, and we don't know exactly what methods are in place. There is a chance that yes SE has a weak defense, but to say that any other MMO is better is laughable.
I’ve been trying to get one ex roulette done and every time the get lobby errors from the ddos. So irritating.
Well, people have to understand.. the game server itself uses an ISP like we all do. It's not necessarily something companies directly can handle, it's something those ISPs need to invest in protection for as well. You hit that hub that brings traffic to the game server? You bring down the game because people can't connect to the server and SE could see everything on their end as normal. It often ends up in playing telephone tag while servers/networks are on fire LOL
I really think DDoSing is a weaksauce thing.
I also think it's hilarious that people in this game are convinced that it's blizzard actively trying to sabotage the game which is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm assuming you have suggestions on what these "steps to prevent this" are? If not, please refrain from speaking like it's a super easy task to prevent DDoS, because it's not. As soon as you get 1 regulated, 6 more can come down the pipeline from new sources. In theory, anyone dedicated enough can keep a service down with DDoS indefinitely.
Where in my post did I say or in-apply that it would be super easy? Taking steps normally means just that, taking steps each time to build a defense. But whatever, keep on putting words where they weren't applied.
If you wanna defend SE and it 4 to 5 DDoS in a month span, knock yourself out. To each their own. Personally, if companies like Blizzard rarely get DDoS attacked (and they deserve it right now with BFA), then there no excuse for SE other then we can keep hiding behind the excuse that it an small indie company.
Don't we figure that SE uses Cloudflair anti-DDOS service, or something like it? If not, they should, right? I wonder if there is a way to test if they do use Cloudflair or something by looking at the routing chain of IPs or something? Does Tracert tell us something?
Ok. A tracert to a lobby server address shows SE uses NTT.NET network services, and checking the NTT website shows that NTT.NET provides DDOS protection as a service. So I assume that NTT is trying as hard as they can to stop these DDOS attacks.
Easier said than done. There's no magical solution to ddoss attacks. Every site on the internet can be be taken down with it. There's not a lot of protection against it. Ddoss is similar to botting in the sense that any protective measure you design, people can circumvent it by simply changing some lines of code to alter its pattern.
Again, I'm not in-applying that a DDoS attack can be stopped completely, but there are measures that can be taken to lessen the attacks. If there weren't, how is Blizzard keeping them at bay most times? Just a simple thought.
But on this note, it looks like it not a DDoS attack after all.

Just updated:

Our investigation with ISPs revealed that these technical difficulties are being caused by a DDoS attack.
The announcement has been updated to reflect this and the time that the technical difficulties began.
Alright, on behalf of everyone I'll concede and tell you what you want to hear: "SE is terrible, everyone should feel bad for sticking with them after DDoS, should quit, and go play WoW instead."
Everyone happy now? Can we move on?
For the record, yes WoW was DDoS'd a TON back in the day, but I'd wager the majority of the WWKS (WoW White Knight Society) were still wearing diapers during those days so you wouldn't remember. Isn't it an amazing coincidence that all these DDoS didn't happen pre-ShB? It's the newest expansion in any major MMO and also recently announced 16 million accounts. That currently puts that at #1 of the target list for DDoS script kiddies to get their jollies off at. It'll be this way for a while until the next "big thing" hits elsewhere.
Now you have two choices:
1) Take break, go outside, whatever.
2) Unsub, uninstall, go play something else.
Notice how "cry on the forums" was not an option? There's a reason for that, and if I have to explain it to you then you're beyond reason.
This is a bad explanation so someone should word it better.
A DDOS attack doesnt have to target SE servers specifically but can be against any link in the chain of connection to SE. SE cant do anything about ISPs being over loaded elsewhere that interupt their service. And tandom DDOS are common by botnets since they are most likely trying to packer flood so someone/some group can access information from companies, things kike billing, payment information etc.
It rarely has anything to do WoW some angry nerd.
