can newgame+ be the solution for jump potter or anyone who skip ARR story?

i mean, its still not out yet but if they make the feature right, i think it could be the solution for practically anyone who skip ARR story.

i dont know how they going to make newgame+ but i really hope they trim down the unnecessary quest and the fed-ex task in the MSQ

- cut short the unnecessary "filler kill X 10 times to continue story" in the ARR MSQ, maybe change it to cutscene or downright skip the section and continue the story

- all DG or primal can be solo or have something like trust system, to keep the story flowing

- a reward that can be only obtain when you do newgame+ (mount or minion maybe? i noticed a lot of jump potter didnt bother with any lore or story but really care when it come to mount)

i can see the potential to at least more than just "band aid" the negativity of ARR, in fact it could become a thing to do like "oh you use jump pot? make sure to play newgame+ to get special reward" kind of stuff

of course in the end it still depend on the player itself, if the guy never has any shred of intention about the story yeah it still useless i guess.

Jump Potions will still be the path of least resistance to someone willing to spend money.
New Game+ won't solve the issue.

I'm sure there are some jumpers that want to go back and experience the story but if a jump potter doesn't care about lore, new game+ existing wont make them care, not even for a mount. They'd probably just skip through all the dialogue and scenes. Personally i do believe anyone skipping FFXIV'S story is missing out but y'know, different strokes for different folks.

What I'm hoping for, is that the implementation of New Game Plus comes packaged with improvements to the ARR story pacing. Some of the quests in the quest-line (Especially in the Titan story-line and the Post 2.0 > Heavensward Story) Can be regulated to Sidequests without harming the overall story points or structure.)

What New Game + Will provide after that point is an opportunity for those who did skip due to the poor pacing of ARR, to be able to go back and experience the story properly. Aside from the pacing failings of the early parts, it really is the strongest part of this game.

I hope that New Game + didn't take too many ressources off real content creators, because that feature is such a niche and so unimportant to the game itself that it's really just satisfying a small group of hardcore lorefanatics.

As yes.. the fans of story. Such a small audience in FF games.
FF games aren't known for being story driven at all.

The story is legitimately the most important thing in the eyes of the developers and for many in the community. While I get that some people don't like it the people willing to go back and re-experience the story are hardly a 'small group'.

for jump potter who really just want to play the endgame yes. but i think 50% of the jump potter is because the good old "i want to reach SHB fast so i use jump" and "ARR quest is slog and boring (not the story)"

its like they actually want to experience the story but they cant because the fed-ex quest, completely pointless quest and there is like over 200 of it on top of that. i mean iam all 80% story when i play games but few of the ARR quest is i agree, unnecessary, like where you need to prep a feast before going to titan is just.... why? just make it a cutscene or something?

I love MSQ because I'm a story driven player. I love games with a story, if they have no story then I'm not interested. So I for one am looking forward to the new game + to level up my other classes. I really hate the grind of levelling atm and I'm not much of a fan for PoD so I'm hoping this NG+ is going to be right up my street! :)

Also, not sure if it'll stop jump potters. Probably not because you'll always get players that'll want to reach end game asap. But in saying that, there may be an interest in going back over the story once they've finished the latest MSQ. I wouldn't say all, but I think, some at least, will be interested in doing so! :)

You probably didn't understand what I was saying. The amount of people who love the story so much that they want to do it AGAIN with the SAME character isn't high. Most people I know complain about ARR and the story being stretched way too much. It's just a completely useless feature in an MMORPG - It's a single player game mechanic for people who want to replay the game without giving up their established character, just repeating the same quests you did before didn't need a "game mode" but a simple menu where you can start a mission from a mission list of "solved quests".

Especially in a game which could need work on so many edges, being able to replay the MQS with the same character does seem very unimportant. you can always just create a new char and relive it, if you REALLY miss the 100 ARR fetchquests.

The reason they're even putting NG+ in is because it was highely requested... Where are you even getting this from?


As a long time FF fan, the only reason I, and many others, even started playing FFXIV was for the story. As soon as NG+ hits, I'm running through it again. Well... I'd run through Shb again first, but that won't be possible when NG+ hits, so, starting from ARR it is.

Really though, eff the Titan quest line. Man I hated that so much... the running back and forth was tedious, sure, but I hated the NPCs attitudes more than anything. Their reasoning for sending you to and fro it was paper thin, too... Testing us? Uh... already killed a primal, not our first rodeo, guys. Come on...

Oh I got what you were saying perfectly. I'm disagreeing with you. Especially since they already said they were reducing the worst parts of ARR and without the leveling grind attached to it, it becomes a much more enticing way to replay the story.

So I assume you read a book, then tear out the filler pages and read it again - for a more enticing way to enjoy the story?

I would rather, you know, read a different book - or play another game, with a new story. But that's just me.

A better analogy would be reading an un-beta'd first draft then once done wanting the author to clean up the unnecessary bits that detract from the overall story and pacing for a clearer experience the second time around. You can cut a good chunk of the quests from ARR and not have the story suffer a single bit. Doubly so for the grind between 2.1-2.55.

I am glad you realized. Because this is true for EVERY AddOn so far. And SE still decides its super fun for the Warrior of the Universe He-Man Godeater Worlddestroyer to run and search 3 Choco Chicken and deliver 2 pieces of grass to a vegetarian Lalafel during the Main Story just to proceed. It's actually a kick in the face if they let you suffer through BS quests just to introduce a "good" version of it later on to "re-live".

Did they say that in conjunction with New Game Plus, or just as an unrelated thought bubble?

I'm pretty sure NG+ is just letting you hit reset on the story as it currently exists.

Also if they ever review/adjust the existing scripts, it would almost certainly apply to the original run as well, not just the replay.

Pretty sure it's been an unrelated thought bubble for awhile. The first rumblings I heard of it were back during the initial Jump Potion debacle but it didn't seem to be a potential 'thing' until the last few years.

I cant wait for new game plus to come out I've ran through Arr about 3 times now and still do love the story

Oh wow, I really hope you can level up other classes because that would be a big disappointment for me if not! Although I'd still probably go through the MSQ again because I do like it!

as "new game+" I understand the chance to reset a character back to level 1 after clearing the newest expansion pack without losing any achievemet.

I really hope it will hand out the MSQ exp again. I know he said it's for lore fans who don't want to level their 2834 alt to play through the full story again, but since then a lot of people requested that it's also a way to level a new class. I'd understand if they don't want to hand out all the MSQ rewards again like Fantasia. But exp? Please, please do it!
I really dislike PotD/ HoH. Leveling healer/ tank is okay, I can spam dungeons but dps?
And it would be cool because you could get the dialogues with a different class while playing through the story again. Otherwise you'd have to level the class first and then play the story.
