So why the GNB cartridge combo need 3 different bottoms for its GCD?

Title

Unlike any other combos in the game, you can't miss click any one of the 3 combo GCD after you start it:
C1 is not spam-able with a 30sec CD
C2 and C3 can only be active after C1 and C2, not spam-able either.
In short you can't do it wrong even intentionally and it's even just one bottom in the PvP mode.
So why do we need to have 3 separate bottoms for this? As a controller player this is super annoying for me.

I just...put the Gnashing Fang combo on one button. Like you said, unlike other combos only one step of GF can ever be active at any given time so it's not like anything can fire off in the wrong order.

I'm sure that's sacrilege to some, but I tried it that way and the normal way and if there's a difference, it's measured in fractions of a second. Frankly, I don't care at that point.

tbh I'd prefer it if the cartridge combo were a single button as well. Continuation already works that way despite also being 3 separate skills, so I don't see any reason I should have to hotbar all 3 when it's only possible to use them in sequence

Those bottoms, such a messy bunch!

Back on topic, GNB does have a lot of buttons compared to let's say WAR which has a lot of free space.

I use the PS4 gamepad on pc and I have zero issues with GNB, I prefer the gnashing fang combo current status, it's much more easy to track on what step of the combo I am with my fingers, other wise I would be forced to stare at the same button to control his progress and is pretty counterintuitive for me. PVE don't need the excessive oversimplification of PVP.

The reason is simple.

If the Renzo combo was just one button that you pressed repeatedly, the official forums would realise that it is actually a more forgiving version of Inner Release in disguise. And then you'll never hear the end of it.

Thats actually Burst Strike.

More on topic, Gnashing Fang has its own cooldown and is a weaponskill, when you begin the combo it starts ticking, if it were a single button the CD for sure wouldn't start until you finished all the steps, which would make the job slower.
And if they changed it to oGCDs then you will have a DA lvl spam with ShB MCH deficit.

But it's the same setting in the PvP mode of GNB and they have no issue handling it in one button.

I wish they'd add the option to allow people to customize combos like this. I know I was completely out of room when I first tried GNB, and wanted this. Now I don't, but if given the option to put certain combos into one hotkey alone, I wouldn't object.

This is a special case though. The cartridge combo can never be used out of order, and can never be restarted once in progress. Therefore all three steps should be the same button. The same argument can't be made for most other combos.

I don't see why continuation can't just be a passive trait that replaces the respective spot in the combo instead of a button by itself. But yeah, single button cartridge combo or continuation trait please. 4 buttons is slightly annoying, especially when you consider the potency of the initial combo is the same as Paladin Atonement which is 3 charges of a single button.

Because if everything is on one button there is no possibility of screwing up and the classes would play even more easy than they already do. Going 1 -> x / 2 -> x / 3 -> x while using off gcd´s, defense cd´s and moving around is way more complicated than just pressing 6 times "1".
The tanks already have not the most complex rotations and you guys still scream for more easy mode. Do you really want another DRK situation? I already fear what they will do to the GNB in the next expansion, especially after what they did to the HW DRK.

Continuation is supposed to feel like "pulling the trigger" on your Gunblade. This is to mimic the feel of Squall's Attack action and Limit Breaks in FFVIII.

I do agree that Gnashing Fang-> Savage Claw -> Wicked Talon should be one button that changes as used.

Considering you can use Sonic Break mid cartridge combo, it's pretty hard to screw it up.

It's not about complex rotations, and from what I've played and read, the only class with complex damage mechanics is Summoner.

Regarding the Dark Knight issue, where Delirium = worse version of Inner Release is just a waste. They easily could have tied in a more interesting burst window by interacting with Living Shadow.

While Living Shadow is active, spending MP or using Dark Arts grants [Shadow Twin] which unlocks [Shadow Duality]. [Shadow Duality]: Delivers an attack with a potency of X which is then mirrored by Living Shadow. This also would reward proper use of The Blackest Night instead of it currently just being a neutral at best outcome.

You mean like 1(1)-1(1)-1(1)? That would make it impossible to do it wrong. You can currently forget to use Continuation, or, because Continuation seems a bit finicky on its queuing, your Continuation press might not register when you think it does. The combo itself should definitely just be 1-1-1, but Continuation should stay its own button so you can still fail to press it. 1(2)-1(2)-1(2)

Edit: It occurs to me in hindsight that maybe you meant 1(1)-2(2)-3(3). Yes, this would also be better than 1(4)-2(4)-3(4). I think 1(2)-1(2)-1(2) would be best though.

I play on PS4 as well and have no issues with it. I have my Cartridge generator set to R2 OX[] and the cartridge combo set the same way but on L2 with continuation set to triangle. Plenty of room for everything else just. Just need to have your second bar set with long dcds and your AoE combo. I like having the buttons, don't want to be warrior levels of empty bars. Also Paladin has a lot more buttons to manage that also require targeting party members for a lot of them and plenty of people play that on PS4 too it just takes a lot more practice and faster reactions.

TLDR: I like the buttons where they are, but I do see your PoV when I was new to PS4 play. Don't wanna make it to easy in my opinion.

If you're on PC like me it's pretty simple to macro it all into one button and there's never a delay or an issue that I've had with it.

Because if it were a 1 button combo, it would cause a massive outrage and people would complain about SE catering to noobs and combos going too simplistic.
Look how negative feedback healers changes caused.

GNB playstyle should not change, its really good as it is being fastest tank job from them all i love the job 100% and i play on PS4 controller, have zero problems whatsoever.

Should, because why? No it shouldnt, it would be terrible, the class would feel terrible and slower than it is, someone playing it will have to look into the hotbar to know what part of combo he is in.
The worst idea possible, in pvp it works and feels really bad.

You could put everything on the same button with macros already duh, you just want them to take the good playstyle and turn it into the hot garbage "because you said so"
No thanks, do you play pvp? 1 button combo feels terrible and is objectively bad idea.

Stop asking for such ridiculous and stupid ideas that you could already recreate by yourselves.
There were few people complaining about GNB soundeffect and see what happened.

I see no complaints about speed of actions or changing playstyle. I'm only seeing complaints about button bloat focused around 3 actions that are only used once roughly every 30s. 3 gcd buttons and 1 ogcd button seems pretty bloated for an action series that could be handled by 2 buttons (1 gcd button and 1 ogcd button).

People are not asking for a single button press to complete the combo. The cpmbo would take the same number of button presses in the same period of time.

And why would you need to look at your hotbars to know what part of the combo you are in? This isn't macroing the actions so that they swap buttons as they are pressed.

Macroing is actually far inferior to what is being requested due to how the action queueing system and macro systems works. You can queue up any non-Macroed action by pressing the assigned button approximately .5 sec before its recast completes. Macros require the action queue to empty before they start running and pressing another macro with interrupt the currently resolving macro.

I think you are far exaggerating the engagement of pushing 1(4)-2(4)-3(4) also If you can't count to 3 you are mashing your buttons to much. Your problems with the single buttons combos are more likely due to you pressing them far more than necessary.

Also 1(2)-1(2)-1(2) for the cartridge+continuation combo feels very different than 1-1-1ing a standard combo.

Yea, I meant either 1(1)-2(2)-3(3) or 1(2)-1(2)-1(2). Either 3 separate buttons or 2, the 2nd set would definitely feel better due to the "trigger" effect of continuation.

It's literally designed this way to give you the illusion that you have something exciting to do and a "quasi-DPS rotation" as I've seen some people put it.

I mean, it's fine, it feels good and a lot of players take pride in having many separate buttons to push but I personally would prefer it more condensed as the extra buttons serve no real function. Luckily, there are other tanks I can fall back on for this.
