My only concern with the way teleports and anima work in this game.

I'm ok with this anima system, it is pretty well balanced and the recovery rate is about right.

The only thing that really takes away from exploration, and that really annoys me, is that you can be teleported to places you've never been!

Seriously, the other day I was teleported to Mor Dhona to do some quest, and I thought it was just another zone, a purple one, but another place to go click on a "???" and hit return(chocobo music also removes a lot of great aspects this game has, but that's a whole different topic).
It wasn't until I had to walk there because I was out of anima that I really came to value it, and how hard it was to get there (from the black shroud).

And this is just an example. When I started I was teleported from limsa to windurst and uldah, and it felt cheap! I'm sure most players haven't even boarded the ferry.

I remember when I first reached San d'Oria, or my first jorney to Jeuno when I reached level 20, and I'll always remember that. That was exploration and adventure!

Conclusion:
I think it's great to teleport to wherever you want, as long as you've been there atleast once through walking!

I don't get why so many people are complaining about something that not one time you are forced to use. If you don't like anima or teleporting, DON'T DO IT. Why is that so hard? I don't have 12 hours a day to play and I definately don't want to spend half my time just running to where I need to go.

I understand some people think it ruins their experience in the world, but nobody is holding a gun to your head telling you to click teleport. People keep asking to remove anima or have an npc to remove anima from your character when all you have to do is NOT use it. I'd rather see a new dungeon or a better UI over some crappy anima removing patch.

I have to agree with the OP. I hate that a level 1 can be teleported around to places he has no business being. Making it to that crystal should be a challenge for every player. But they did split the difference and make it so the smaller crystals had to be visited before you can port to them. Now they just need to give us more reasons to go to them...

Never understood the whole "If you don't like it don't use it" mentality on this particular topic. There are many reasons why it's impossible to not use it.

1.) EXP Parties you're in will use it to get to a particular area. Thus you used it.
2.) Linkshell members are going to use it to get to particular areas for raids and other content. Thus you used it.
3.) The imbalance in not using it compared to those that do is so staggering that you would always be behind your friends/other players in terms of progression due to time spent on walking compared to time saved teleporting. Which wouldn't happen anyways because you're not going to tell your friends "I don't like Anima Teleportation so you can't use it while we do stuff together."

Head out of rear end people. This is a legit problem. Teleporting everywhere, while nice, removes you from exploration. Which sucks. There needs to be other limiting factors on this other than time to regenerate anima. I think having to visit the Aetheryte crystal or node to be able to go there by teleport at later dates is a good suggestion. It makes people explore the world and earn the teleport to that camp/area.

Agreed as well. FFXI was the same way- had to obtain the crystal before being able to be ported there. Otherwise you were just left behind. Maybe 2.0 implementation?

(Although I will say it was nice being able to get my mules there ports for ease of porting there) But I can see that as a bit OP and wouldn't fret if they did away with it.

I think if we had utsusemi, it would be so much easier.

Hold on a sec, you are saying that if someone is inviting you to a party and you don't have the crystal they should... wait for you? I doubt that will happen.

If that is correct, then i would assume you would not level until you walk to all those areas. This would be your choice, correct?

So if my choice is to actually get teleported somewhere and save 5 hrs of walking somewhere through a bunch of lvl 80 mobs why is that wrong?

There is no mentality behind it, it's a simple choice. You have yours, and I have mine.

If you want to explore so bad, why not do it on your own time. What I mean is, someone mentioned even if you don't want to use teleports, you'll be forced to when grouping with other players. While I don't disagree you will most likely have to agree to be teleported with your group, most people aren't going to wait for one member to walk to where ever they are heading to. On the other hand, you can always go doing the exploring that you want to do so bad on your own time while not in a group. I don't mind either way how teleporting works, I played FFXI for years, I know how it goes. But really, there is options, why not use them? You want to go explore a random bush in some random far away location? Then go do it.

Now this is a good point, OP. I think that people should only be able to teleport to places they already visited even if someone take him/her there.

Players will feel lke the have achieved something

I also think that you should have to make the trek to a teleportation point at least once on your own before you gain the ability to teleport there.

When a friend/friends are helping you with a quest, and suddenly everyone teleports to some far-off land you've never been to before, it's tough to say "wait...um, never mind. I kind of wanted to walk there on my own the first time." The game allows players to recieve teleports to locations they haven't discovered, so unless you play solo, you're probably going to have that happen to you eventually whether you like it or not. :(

I actually agree with the OP, despite my earlier comment. Exploring the world is part of the adventure in an MMO, and everyone should do it once.

Alternately, place content in areas that are trickier to travel to.

Getting the crystal by walking is a suggestion, not an answer. However, completely removing it would be silly. Though I will say that going to particular nodes on foot with your linkshell or a group of players is not as bad as it sounds. Solo it would probably suck. But I am viewing this from the standpoint of being a new player with other new players...not the current community who has everything done already. If you have lots of new players to explore with and do this with it could be fun.

yes to this, get there first then port anytime. you lose alot from a game being able to just port there your first time.

I just love how people need to find an excuse to go explore the lands. If you really cared that much about exploring you would go do it. Rather then making these threads everyday for them to do something to anima for you to explore.

The OP has a point. The concept I believe everyone who's against it are missing is that you actually -go- to the crystal before being able to port there. Afterwards you can teleport as much as you want. I do not recall him saying that he disliked anima or teleporting in any manner. Rather have them take the time to gather that node.

A good example would be the crag crystals in XI... or even the kazham keys for the airship pass (although you also had the option to buy it).

In -my- opinion he has a point. Earn your nodes to teleport freely.

Really this Isn't going to fix anything for the people who want the exploration. The people who want to go explore are the ones out there doing it. No one is forcing you to take that teleport to that area but yourself.

Exploration should be a choice, not forced upon everyone just because some people like it. This is coming from someone who regularly runs out to the aether nodes for fun. But I won't force others to do it just because I like to do it.

Honestly I would like to see anima removed, and a 15 minute recast on teleport put in it's place.

This community never ceases to amaze me, I even wrote on the first line that I was ok with the anima system so you mindless trolls could grasp my idea before firing your canons, but I guess it wasn't enough.

Anyway, little rant apart, I'm surprised by the amount of support this thread recieved.

People who want teleports delivered to them on a silverplate like they are right now, are probably persons who when looking back at the games they played, have no memories at all.

Honestly, I want to know how many players in this thread has ever boarded the ferry!

I boarded the ferry once and it was horrible

I take the ferry every time I need to get from Uldah -> Limsa, lol.

I wish they would just have anima regenerate abit faster if you stay at the Inn or maybe just give double while you are in there. I also agree with the exploration thing having played this game since launch the idea of exploring is now tired I've seen many areas too many times now it is no longer exploring but a time waster. It's an inconvenience when you are just trying to get together with friends and play and you waste 15 minutes because someone needs to run from somewhere. That being said I am not against limits just they need to lower the amount of time regen happens

The problem right now is, what really is there to explore?

There are only a few points of interest I can think of, but otherwise all the landscape is mostly devoid of purpose

When new areas get added to the game I'll hate hearing ls member saying "just got ported to the new zone. who wants teleport? :)" and everybody getting to the new zone without having any idea how to get there, and what it is close to.

Then people will just have their high level friends kill all the enemies as they walk to camps and still forgo exploration and adventure or whatever, so this will not change anything. Those thing's don't hold the same value to everyone. Play the game how you want to play and let others play the game how they want to play.

I did find a high level thf in pashow marshlands to guide me and help me reach jeuno (we didn't even have maps, how cool was that?), that was what, 8 years ago? I still remember it, and will always. *youtubes rolanberry field's theme*

What I don't understand on people who "argue" against this, is that they complain as it this would be a game breaking change. This would give what? 5 hours total of cristal gathering, in exchange for memories, sense of accomplishment and awareness of the world around them that the current "just port wherever you want" system doesn't supply, before putting the new players on the same level everybody is at(except happier).
Eorzea is not that big.

I've been talking to a lot of people, and I've came to the conclusion that this community is not as bad as it looks on this forums. It's just that only the trolls and young kids are vocal.
Most of the assertive part of this community just avoids this forum altogether.
Sometimes I wish these forums were more active, but then I just lose the will to post and to read them after a couple of days of reading the quality of discussion and arguments that go on in here!

Seriously, I've solo'd just about everything, I walked to each city at launch, you know what my memories of that was, "Wow everything looks the same", and whe nI took the ferry..."wow this sure is boring"... If people want to be ported to the camps and pickup their self ports that way, that's their business, not yours, quit your whining.
