I cant really enjoy my favourite class that i actually want to main.
For example, afaik every job skill animation that has a powered up version at a later level gets a new animation... but samurai... all his 3 Iaijutsu at level 76 are just the exact same skill animation.
And his 80 Skill is the most useless Skill i´ve ever seen. How come NOBODY is complaining about that? Didnt found any Thread mentioning how bad this skill is. 500 Attack potency but you need to charge it first? The only Skill animation that looks very cool and feel fun to use is the worst one in its usefulness.
So would it be so hard to give the level 76 iaijutsus a better animation because its stronger? like 0,5 sec longer charing but then some more animations ?
for me skill animations are very important. I know alot of people dont care about them and just want to spam their skills but this is not how i enjoy a game. for me the combat is important and what my eyes see, which is the skill animation. So i want to enjoy what i see when i trigger a skill and im very dissapointed and frustrated that the Iaijutsus are just the exact same skill animation.
Do you guys think we will get an improved version of them or will they let this stay as it is right now? I feel like because the majority dont care about animations the devs dont care and put less effort into them and im as a minority dont get considered.

So my point is, im sad that some skill animations are whether boring or just recycled.
Why are all other jobs get a new skill animation of the exact same skill on a higher level but samurai just repeats his own animation again? xD
I have SO MANY ideas how a skill could look and if I , a noname random low budget gamer has so many skill design ideas how can a creative development team lack in the time to give samurai a bit more effort in its skill designs?
im not offending them i love shadowbringer and im thankful for the developer but the skill animations are like the most important part for me so im sad its just the same.
and as I said , the 80 skill for example is very cool designed but very bad to use unfortunately.
Is anybody sharing my opinion or am I the only one who complaints about the skill animations?

Your not alone. I'd love for my BLM spell despair to be changed to something other than a giant spear that makes a fart noise when cast. I'd love for foul too be changed to something that resembles actual dark type spells of terrifying destructive power that doesn't sound like a harp cord is being broken everytime when cast. I'd love for Xenoglossy to resemble something of a dark moon that we drop on the enemy to break them. However, I think SE probably see these requests and just bypass them sadly.

This is very sad because actually Skill Animation designs should be a very important topic. For example Gunbreaker. I fell in love with his 3 combo routine but his OGCD skills are so crap animated. they are so quick my eyes cant even see the actual animation. I use the skill and after it i dont feel like my char did anything. For example his jump to the enemy skill. Some skills are so well animated and the exact same job then use another skill which is very poorly animated. I dont get it. Look at the Jump to enemy Skill from the DRK. It has a cool blue explode animation. And yea..
I have so many creative ideas how to polish skill animations and if they put so many big resources into developing this game why not give a bit too for skill animations? And it is sad that my words dont reach the dev team. it is very sad. id like them so hard to know how much i love this game but the poor skills give me a hard time to enjoy the battle system.
i dont have a problem with the combat system being "old" or "rusty" i just want the actual skills to be a bit better animated. i have thousands of ideas and skill designs. Why is it so hard to contact them and give them feedback :( ...
We can only give feedback to stuff like housing system or i dont know... that boring stuff.. but core gameplay elements seems to be ignored.
Its frustrating to play the perfect game but you cant enjoy the perfect part of it because this "little" detail of skill animations destroy you the opportunity to enjoy the battles. Ofc some skills are cool but some other are so suddenly random poor animated compared to the other job skills of the same class.
Some Actions feel like they were triple A budget and then the other skill is like trash.
Id love to have some deeper insight into how skills are actually designed and planned. for example how do someone decides that "gekko" has a moon animation? Or "Shoha" has a red aura when charging? who is deciding how a skill actually looks? id like to contact this guy ! -

The faster a rotation is the more interupptable it becomes, sadly that comes with delieverint fast paced gameplay.
Your best bet at good animations would be to play jobs without OGCDs.
On samarui
The problem here is aesthetically it fits exactly what a samarui should do. U forget katanas are made to only strike in certain ways. Start adding more striking animation and suddenly your a terrible katana wielder and should get a sword
It’s not bad animations, it’s simply to be exactly what a samarui would look like :p and while you can say it doesn’t look amazing to you, they wont go far in Asian culture if they portray you wielding a katana like a sword.. -

I am still ever-hopeful that SE will go back and at least fix the animations of said skills. They really are quite ugly and could use a revamp post-haste. Although, I won't stop playing my favourite jobs because of ugly skill animations. It would just be nice too have them fix the animations of certain skills. Just want too look at something more aesthetically pleasing.

Yes Cherry Blossoms and Moon skills for samurai skills are very common and i love it !
But you see... look at skills like :
Gekko
Kasha
Mangetsu
Tenka Goken
Shoha
If you look at these skills and then compare it to
Guren (very ugly because its so quick and you cant really see all the effects of the animation its just a very weird skill that dont feel satisfying to use)
Kyuten
Shinten
Seigan
Yukikaze
Those skills are so boring and unsatisfying to use...
For example : Why didnt we got a third combo for Yukikaze ? I already have an idea...
So Hakaze > Yukikaze > ... whatever : He stomps his katana into the ground and the makes the same move like the skill from Gunbreaker called "lightning shot" where he moves his sword from the ground to the air but in the opposite way. so he makes it into the ground and then an icy road goes to the enemy like tenka goken. but the animation of tenka goken goes to the air. but the icy thing would be lower on the ground... can you imagine what i mean? xD
so a third rotation for yukikaze. Thats just an example.
There are skills i enjoy to use but the majority of the skills are so boring and not satisfying to use because most animations has to be skipped because samurai is so fast to play that you cant even see all animations because your next skill is ready before the old one is over in its full animation. Best example for this is Kasha. You always see only the first hit. no time for the second one. Same for Gekko and Yukikaze.
or as i just said and wished : if you alraedy give us a powerd up version of all 3 iaijutsus why dont give them at least.. a different color like the skin icon ? if you are too lazy to give those 3 skills a cooler animation at least change the color of the animation to match the skill icons. so tenka goken would be green instead of blue if you use it again... or midare would get a third hit instead of 2 hits.

EDIT: But im not saying you should delete old skilsl and give us a whole new samurai. in this topic im just sad about how boring the new skills are and useless. so you give us a new skill called Senei which is .. "normal" not too cool not too boring. And secondly we get all 3 iaijutsus powerd up BUT with the old animation. And third you give us a VERY VERY awesome COOL skill .. BUT... you never get to use it because the requirements are so weird that its just no fun to use it.
so the only skill that received an very good animation is exact that one skill that you cant really get to use... which is very sad... you should give shoha 500> 1000 attack potency and also change the requirements on how to use it OR if you keep being like you have to load mediation 5x times then give it at least 1500 or 2000 attack potency.
Ps. @Drayos actually not true : in every JRPG outside of XIV the samurai has flashy multi hit million strike skills where he summons 50x reapers who makes a choreo dance with you while the weather changed to lightning and then you summon 3 copys of you fighting together and your katana is full of lightning aura energy and you scream "RAIKIRIIII" and the whole world explodes while you see 10213123 strikes.... this would be my dream for XIV but im satisfied with skills like LB 3 Sam OR his 80 skill "shoha" if all skills of him would be like this im already happy. but recycling 3 iaijutsus and only change the skill technically but not from the animation is cheap in my eyes because jobs like DRK and PLD got a complete revamp
And did you note that NIN & DRG got slighty polished animations for their old skills? for example the NIN opener has now a small windaura in its animation which wasnt there before. so older skills got polished animations while samurai stay the same sadly -

While this could be "fixed" by speeding up the animation, having all weaponskills be a 2 strike affair and cancelling the second one into Shinten/Seigan/Senei actually works well thematically, as you could explain it as seeing an opening and instead of continuing your current attack, quickly striking the vulnerable spot.Quote:

And you're claiming you want more polish, but you're really asking for them to change their direction according to your preferences, which I mean, fine, you get to voice your opinion, but don't pretend that isn't what you're doing. As far as quality goes, Samurai skills are fine.
Have you maybe considered that they are trying to be a little closer to actual martial arts rather than anime “samurai”? Not entirely of course, the plentiful twirls, jumps and flashy particle effects are there to fantasy it up, but, the way FFXIV samurai moves feels at least somewhat plausible and I very much enjoy that.Quote:

I haven’t really noticed any significant changes in Ninja or Dragoon animations myself. And there is decent amount of time and discontinuation of older console, so if there were indeed visual changes to those two jobs, they are there to bring them to standard of all post Heavensward jobs rather than put them above those.Quote:

Well i dont expect them to make an Anime Samurai cause he is already one. He already has cliche anime skills.
Since when do real samurais had sakura flowers or moon slashes? this is all made up by anime.
Only in games Samurai get connected to Sakura Flowers and the Moon. and alot of times to the ice element. soo it is already like that. So im like "if you alraedy go on that route why are the skills (some of them) so boring COMPARED to other skills of the exact same job?"
or like i said with the new iaijutsu skill that we dont get any new animation.
For example since the second iaijutsu is stronger you could make it charge 0,5 to 1 sec longer and then we get a stronger look in its animation.
but as i said i enjoy this game, i love it. i play it all day in my free time. so im not an enemy of the devs. im more like begging them to for example give us new animations for the iaijutsus or make shoha more fun/easier to use. because i never use it actually. so i cant use that one and only skill that i actually like from the animation because its so useless. its more useless than seigan and even that one im never using (or very rarely)
seigan is only useful if it wouldnt cost kenki. but thats just my opinion.
but thanks for the discussion i understand your opinion. i still wont give up and stay with hope they will consider visual changes. i dont expect them to revamp samurai and give them alot of flashy animations. just give the 3 iaijutsus at level 76 a slight visual improvement since you can use them twice in a row so the second one COULD be a little bit cooler or not?
my dark knight is level 71 now i think at 74 he gets his 2 new skills powered up. as far as i know THEY GOT new animations amirite? so why does sam dont get new ones? xD
ps. maybe im wrong and the 2 new drk skills dont get new animations at their level 74 powered up version but IF YES then its very unfair to sam. lol. -

Sam use FFXI animations for gekko (moon), yuki (ice) and shoha (petals) , and of course FFXIV version has similar versions of that it isnt just because anime.
and DRK get new animations on the new 2 skills ....one empowers the blade with darkness spin it as a badass and hit the enemy.... -

I don't really know crap about Japanese culture, but I think that Sakura flowers hold a lot of significance culturally.
SAM looks exactly what I'd expect it to look like in an FF game.
I can't help but to cringe when I hear people say that something is cliche or generic in regards to Anime because a lot of the same people then go on to worship the most generic Western crap imaginable.
Not saying that the OP does but considering the state of the Western game industry and the complete lack of imagination and originality I welcome '' cliche Anime stuff '' in my fantasy.
I'll take it above '' guy/ girl with gun and google copy pasted T-shirt and Jeans '' or google copy pasted medieval armor anyday of the week.
And I mean is it any more '' cliche '' than Dark Knight's altogether, lol?
You could probably make that argument against every class, PLD comes to mind too and NIN.
I agree tho that the 76 Iajutsu's should have a different animation.
But the Sakura flowers and all that is totally in line with the SAM.
The Samurai holds a lot of signifiance to Japanese culture so it makes sense that it'd be '' very Japanese '' even in a Japanese game.
Edit: Btw, a Paladin was an actual thing historically.
And I am pretty sure that they didn't have actual holy magic either xD... All of these classes are pretty much just as cliche and generic if you really look at it. -

no i never complained about the combo finishers. i really enjoy them to use. the main focus of this thread is about how bad shoha is so you cant enjoy using it and the other complaint is regarding the 76 iaijutsus just look the same without a new animation or at least changed color.
if i would develop an samurai i also would give him a skill where a moon makes an apperance and one with sakura flowers. but instead of ice element i would give him lightning element (cause thats very cool for me).
so im mostly satisfied with sam otherwise i wouldnt main him but im just sad about how they made the 76 skill and how useless shoha is so the only good looking skill is that one i cant really get to use. sooo yea.. this is very sad. -

like for a new iaijutsu he charges the sword 2-3 secs and black lightnings are coming as an aura and then he unleashes an big slash.. man... so many ideas xD but instead we get a skill called shoha that is trash but looks good. -

Wow i didnt knew that but it sounds very Cool and great. I hope as compensation for the missing summer part we get some cool raikiri skills. That would be my dream. Shoha needs a big change i even wonder and im very shocked that they made Shoha like this. Cant believe they need our feedback first to realize how bad that skill is designed. SE should know their jobs much better than we so how come many jobs are so broken right now. Do the skill designer really enjoyed the new sam skills? Cant believe that. If i had the chance to design new skills i would do much more to give the players new animations instead of old ones in a new passive skill. Very frustrating. The dev team needs more sam fans so they put more Effort into the skill Design!
