But they don't wear any clothes
Down, Balmung. Down.
Wait. Ah hells...
I'd settle for a Wind-up Sin Eater of one.
Better yet, a "Mount" of forgiven obscenity.
Oooh, sounds like fun!
Wind-Up Obscenity.
With the flavor text "No, this isn't what you shout after getting really riled up. Excuse the divine innuendo."
you... you... want to...
wear the skin of the girl who had throat cancer and got "ascended"? really?
i am sad now T_T
Was hoping for some Sin Eater-inspired equipment throughout the whole expansion. The dungeon where Obscenity appears would have been the perfect one. Instead we just got some reskins of older equipment, erf. Part of me understands why, as completely new equipment/meshes for every single new dungeon would require more work and alot more data bloat, but still...Just seems like a missed opportunity for some truly unique glamours.
I forgot how they look like, if anyone's willing to share a screenshot please.
She was the Au Ra girl who couldn't sing for her elderly master anymore. She was crying in the lower part of Eulmore and sent you out to find medicine. However, when you couldn't get her any to help her, her master, who called her his "Canary", wanted her to become "Ascended", I.e. Turned in to a Sineater.
When you fight her as Forgiven Obscenity, all of her attacks are Vocal and Song based... Meaning She is the poor Au Ra who only wanted to sing for her master.
That isn't confirmed one way or another, merely assumed. There's more details that would tell you she's not the Au Ra than there is to says that she is.
Have to say i'm unsure if the Forgiven Obscenity is really that au ra girl, have to check the story quests again cause i think we see the Forgiven Obscenity before doing the quest with the girl.
Edit: Just checked and the first time we see the Forgiven Obscenity is in the lvl 70 main story quest ( number 8 ) so unless the quest with the girl takes place before that ( which i can't remember if it does ) then is not her.
Edit2: nvm just checked youtube and we do talk with the girl and that before seeing the Forgiven Obscenity for the first time, so there is a chance is her.
When you're applying Dream Dust to the citizen's after Vauthry flies the coup, you find the elderly gentleman mumbling about where hsi Canary has gone. There's a lot of clues pointing to her very sad outcome, and the fact that we have to fight a sineater that resembles her, and has attacks dealing with vocal cues and music is a little on the nose.
The Sineater more resembles a Mystel with their facial markings than it would an Au Ra, if we're going by the information that some eaters retain a semblance of their original appearance or something signifying their character. It's name, as with all eaters, implies a nature related to their original form and there's nothing "Obscene", also the "Consort of Sin" eludes to something else. Her level of Power and station being next to Vauthry tells a story of her existing for a long time, and very much his favorite, right next to the lion. I wouldn't make any sense for that to be some insignificant free citizen. The much likelier conclusion is that she ended up an eater, who was then likely made into meol. Which honestly is a lot more painful to consider.
She was a servant in a relationship with a full citizen, something that was against Eulmore's societal norms. That's the obscenity that was forgiven.
Also, while she has facial markings, her face shape and the fact that the feathers on her head look like certain Au Ra horns, I definitely think she could have been a Drang.
Obscenity:
Only picture I could find of the Warbler:
I would definitely say there's a resemblance. The facial markings also could be from her scales.
We don't have the succubus from Haukke either. Yet it could make sense for some kind of RP.
What? I don't do any RP? That's a detail :p
Without considering "weird" RP, what we miss is bare foot and some kind of gothic body top and something like a ghost dress. Long dress is a possibity but they are usually represented as tight and will be a problem in FF because of clipping. As an alternative, we can imagine some kind of short dress like fairies in fantasy usually wear.
Think about the fairy, Tinkerbell, in Peter Pan, that's somehow something like that.
You're gonna have to give me some detail that hinted they were in a relationship, because there is nothing in the quest dialogue that remotely suggests they were in a fling with each other. The man considered her a pet, if anything. He as much calls her such in one of the cutscenes. As for the girl, she's a bonded citizen pampered and cared for as a songbird, so of course she'll feel infatuated with him as a pet would its master. It's a bit twisted.
And if we're pushing for a 1:1 face here or anything close, the faces are very different. From eyes, lips, even chin.
I don't really see that much resemblance. It 'could' be her but I don't think it's pretty ambiguous.
I'm not seeing it either. The tattoos are different, different chin, aside from a similar hairstyle.
I know the theory, and it doesn't really hold up. As mentioned, the stripes on her face are exactly as that of a Mystel, and time-wise it simply doesn't add up. The window between last speaking to the warbler and hearing blue haired whatshisname scream as Vaultry tells him to cut his arm off is way too small for her to get ascended.
Also, if you run mt Gulg with trusts, Minifilia will note how Obscenity has almost as much light/power as a light warden before fighting her (There is also her boss title in the German version which states her as being Vautry's consort, but that doesn't have to say much, since it's just 'sin eater' in the Japanese one)
Its a matter of if Vauthry had time for it since with the warbler we hear that they are going to start planning for her ascension. Not long after we get the event regarding the Mystel who has Vauthry's attention.
Its far more likely that Forgiven Obscenity predates the warbler by a considerable amount of time and likely had been fed a lot of people, especially given her relatively power level of being almost equal to a lightwarden herself according to Ryne. It is far more likely for the warbler to have wound up as a Venery... or meol.
After you talk to her for the last time, you've got time to report everything you've learned about the city to Alphinaud, then he have the time to paint a whole freaking painting of the couple, then you hear the scream. I'd say the time frame is pretty loose and don't indicate all these event take place back to back in a matter of minutes.
I don't think there would have been time for her to be ascended that quickly and if it were, I feel like we probably would have seen it in person. The way I interpreted things is she was ascended at some point in between us leaving Eulmore and returning to it to liberate it. It's a neat theory but I just can't quite buy into the idea that FO is actually the au ra.
It's not that it would take a long time for Vaulthry to do it, it just doesn't strike me that the two went to Vaulthry RIGHT THAT SECOND to do it. Maybe if we had left Eulmore and come back.
An exaggeration. He didn't paint the portrait, he did a rough sketch, as he says himself, all while you're running about. This is the same level of detail of a rough sketch he's done in SB which didn't take long at all either.
"Then I shall have a word with Lord Vauthry, and arrange for your ascension."
That's all he said. This eludes he would be going through the necessary channels to have an audience with him and arrange the ascension.
Do the sin eaters have to resemble the person who was transformed into one?
I would like to state an opinion regarding the songbird's fate.
The songbird character and her patron disappear immediately after that cutscene, right, and since it mattered to him that the lift was available at that time it makes sense for him to have simply brought her up along to have an audience right away. The alternative would be that they wandered off somewhere else for some reason which doesn't make sense to me, why prolong things? The patron seemed to want to do this right away. He would have been dismissed after the initial audience and so she would have just been 'gone' to him afterwards. It is sad that he missed her afterwards but in the heat of the moment he wanted to offer her the best he could at the time.
We know the transformation can literally take seconds to happen. I think it would necessary to allow an additional 10-15 minutes of Vaulthry pontificating before and afterwards, since he is a blowhard, but it would still be very quick. Alphinaud's sketch was detailed enough to require a fair amount of time and we know that he was all the while going out of his way to slow things down wherever possible.
We also know that violently and forcible transformed people generally do not even look like people any longer. The situation for the songbird may be different though since she specifically went in expecting to go through some type of transition, it being called 'ascension' which implies being lifted up into a higher state. It is plausible that someone who is transformed while in such a positive, welcoming state of mind opens themselves up to the power and that results in them becoming both more powerful and more classically angelic in appearance.
...
While the story does not explicitly say this is what happened, I prefer to think that she met her end only after first becoming a strikingly beautiful dungeon boss, and not by being melted down into sin bread. That idea is simply horrifying. Given how neatly the side plot of the songbird lines up with 'angelic music themed boss' I also think it plausible someone on the development team intended this to be a plausible interpretation even if they did not have a go-ahead to make it documented canon so early in the expansion storyline.
It's 'plausible' but not 'probable' IMO. I think they just disapear becaues their quest was done, not every npc hangs around forever where we can see them at all times. It just feels like too much of a rush. Yes the process can be quick, but the idea of them immediately just barging in rather than going through the proper channels doesn't sit right with me. Afterall they open the place up for an audience for the Miqo'te's punishment right? I didn't get the feeling Vaulthry was holding an open audience there all day.
I totally be down for some sineater like gear or glamour.
