Main Scenario Duty Roulette Changes

I'm pretty sure that 99% of people don't enjoy the main scenario.

Personally I wish that Square Enix would either:

- Go and edit the cutscenes and cut down on some of the dialogue
- Speed up the playspeed of the cutscenes
- Combination of both of the listed above

What does everyone else think? How can main scenario duty roulette be improved to still be a good exp booster but not consume so much time? Have a wonderful day! Loving Shadowbringers!

The time spent equals the reward received, any changes to the former means you'll get less from the latter. Players either have the time to run this or they can avoid it, there are other means of obtaining exp though but if anything the rewards could be upped slightly (let it offer GC seals as well maybe...).

I think mostly it could be improved by people not running it if they don't like the expected result.

Ive learned to just spend cutscene time jiving with the sociable ones i get put in with in DF, the exp is so worth it, heck, mst of the time the conversations are based around the fact the cutscenes take so long, or we just make comments on whats going on (Nael is definitely an XBox player) I played at the start of 2.0 where...at ilevel appropriate, you mightve failed if you did watch the cutscenes, So its very annoying, sure. But getting nearly half a level of exp, is really nice If youre not levelling anything, its actually a loss to do the msq, sadly

I appreciate the fact that cutscenes are unskippable. New players can enjoy the most important and interesting revelations of the last stretch of the main campaign without losing the feel that they are part of the team beating the game.

However, I think it proves to be useless when the entire party has already beaten the thing. I would suggest something like this:

1. Only veteran players in the party: cutscenes are skippable, rewards reduced.
2. At least one new player in the party: cutscenes are unskippable, rewards maintained as they are today.

I think it is easier work than completely remaking the dungeons or splitting it in order to reduce cutscenes. It would serve the benefit of allowing new players to enjoy while giving ample rewards to veterans, but also allowing veteran parties to rush it for most of the runs.

For the massive chunk of exp that got me from 79 to 80, I'd say the frustration pays off.

Pretty sure that would lead to people either quitting when they get a sprout, or vote kicking the sprout. We all know it would happen ^^

The only reason I run it is for the exp. I'd rather have unskippable cutscenes than reduced rewards. I get that it's not ideal for you but it is for me since I can do other things during cutscenes that I couldn't do during a normal duty.

It can't.
The reason the MSQ roulette gives such good rewards both in terms of XP and Tomestones is precisely because it takes such a long time. The rewards are compensation for the time needed.
Back when the cutscenes were skippable the rewards were significantly lower - they increased the rewards after the cutscenes were made unskippable to make sure enough people still ran the roulette.

As for people not enjoying it - the first time one runs Castrum Meridanium and Praetorium, if one is lucky enough to get a group that is not in a great hurry, then it is an awesome experience. Should you run it at min ilvl the fights are also fun and exciting.
It is only when you run the roulette for the umpteenth time that it gets boring.
The dungeons aren't designed for the roulette runners - it is designed for the first timers. The roulette's only purpose is to give the first timers a group to run the dungeons with.

If you don't like it, then don't run it.

The rewards are enticing, sure, but personally, I almost never run it because I hate being capped at boring old lv50 and the cutscene interludes are irritating. Despite taking 3 jobs to 80 now, I still haven't touched MSQ roulette since the expansion hit, because I don't like it. Despite that, I understand why the cutscenes and unskippable, and for the sake of new players, I don't want them to change that.

Mostly we are tired of the same 2 dungeons. There's alot of story... when are we going to get an actual main scenerio roulette??

They've already stated that they have no intention of ever adding another dungeon like those two. That roulette will always have those two duties in it, and that's it. It's been like this for the better part of a decade now, so expecting something new to be added to it is, quite frankly, foolish. I'd sooner expect them to rework those old dungeons into solo duties and nix the MSQ roulette entirely before I'd expect anything else added into that roulette.

"But what about...?"
Anything else you can think of falls into one of the dungeon roulettes, or the trial roulette. They're not really similar enough to CM/Prae to be in the same roulette.

While I find the rewards satisfactory for the time put in and I use them constantly when leveling for that sweet sweet exp, I have to say as someone who came up through ARR last year these two dungeons were not enjoyable at all. Everyone was rushing and it felt more like running an old raid on WoW where you can auto attack everything and win. Boss fights might as well be a targeting dummy. For the end of a JRPG story, it's so anti climatic. I think that takes away anything rewarding and resolute about the cut scenes to the ARR story. It's old content and probably never will be reworked, but if say they decided to improve it my suggestion would be to rebuild them to be a level 50 4 man dungeon so boss fights can have more engaging mechanics and be made to feel like they're at the end of a long quest.

There isn't much wrong with the boss fights, or the mechanics - although admittedly the mechanics are relatively simple.
No, the problem is that the dungeons are designed to be run with an item level of 50 or so, but people are typically running it with item levels 100+. That is what makes everything so easy. Try getting a group together sometime to run them on min ilvl - makes the fights much more fun.

Honestly going back through leveling again I don't really see much of a problem. It's an optional way of leveling, and with the new potency buffs to basically everything it goes by even quicker.

I've been using it to mainly eat dinner and watch videos in my meantime which I can't say I can do for any other rou in this game minus alliance with LOTA/SC.

Well if there were to be a change, I would suggest the ability to vote to skip a cut scene when they appear within main scenario dungeons. Also that the vote to skip must be unanimous within the entire party when the option appears, otherwise it would continue to play. Basically having it work the same way something like a vote dismiss does within the game currently.

That'd be a good way to start witch hunts and get new players kicked for not voting to skip the cutscenes, as well as enable trolls to vote not to skip just to piss people off.

At the very least I think the rewards for someone at lvl cap needs to be changed. It's great for exp I hear, but if I'm going in on a lvl 80 then 300 poetics and 100 goetia just aren't worth it. maybe make it 300 goetia and 2 of the tier 8 materia things? I dunno, just spit ballin here, but I think it needs to be addressed as the time spent isn't worth it for someone not trying to lvl.

... It was already increased a while ago. No, we do not need SE to amp the rewards further. Don't want to run it? Then don't. Cripes, you people will never be satisfied no matter what is done.

Im against cutting dialogues, but speeding up how the playspeed might be good... it was way to slowww even for the first timer (at least i felt so in my first time...)

Actually not just this dungeon... this game overall scene is kinda slow and slugish to me (i dont hate it but dont like it either)

Well, the reason why they became unskippable because of people forcing new people to skip the cutscenes or miss out on the fights to begin with..

Unless they make it worth it to go into it as a lvl 80, then I likely won't. And yes I would be satisfied if they actually made it worth going into MSQ at lvl cap, which as of now I don't consider it worth it to sit through a 1 hour dungeon effectively for 300 poetics and 100 goetia. If it's worth doing for leveling, then that's great, but if all you're getting is that meager amount of tombstones, then I'll pass.

Most people do MSQ for the exp, not tomestones. The Praetorium gives a good 50-60% of your level. The tomestones have always been just icing on the cake.

Would love it if the OPTION to skip was available to a vet-filled party (vote system at the start of the dungeon). If you get a sprout, everyone gets an XP boost. It's getting unbearably painful sitting through those cutscenes. If you're levelling an alt, no complaints allowed... you only have to sit through it once.

They should make the Main Scenario duties single player and remove Main Scenario from the Duty Finder entirely.

Adjust the experience and tome bonuses of remaining duties to compensate.

At this point the Main Scenario duty is not fun nor engaging for anyone involved. I have seen a couple new people since Shadowbringers but is being dragged though the duties at a break-neck pace good for them? I do it to level alts while I spend the entire time watching YouTube on my phone.

I don't know if I would agree with your statement. In its current format it should reward one full xp bar per run for those forced to suffer through what is currently one of the worst tortures imaginable.

Well seeing as no one but first timers are "forced" to run the dungeons to progess the story there really is no problem here. Further runs past what is required are purely optional for everyone else, so any "torture" experienced is self inflicted by choice. The exp is already quite generous, the other rewards could be adjusted but that's it.

Let's review apporximiate clear times:

Castrum Meridianum - 22-25 minutes [less exp, but quicker clear time]
The Praetorium - 40-45 [more exp, but takes longer]

Average 4 man-dungeon run:

With aoes used: 15-20 minutes
Without aoes used: 21-30 minutes
Worst case scenarios: Above 30 minutes (if you're 71 or higher, might as well use trusts since they take nearly as much time, but with less headaches imo)

At the end of the day, Main Scenario Roulette obviously isn't for everyone, but it's an alternative to use to gain extra exp, tomes, gil, and/or help out random people just for the heck of it.
