Good Afternoon,
Well maybe not a good afternoon. It would seem that there is a technical error with the game. I am exp'ing many (too many to count) crash-to-desktop Windows Errors with Final Fantasy XIV. I can log in & select a character but once the program goes into the loading phase 9 times out of 10 I crash.
I have changed every option that I can in the graphics to troubleshoot the problem with no solution. I can sometimes log in but certain events such as taking out my weapon, teleporting, and even zoning can cause the crash.
I have tested my PC with other games recently (CoD:MW3, CoD:BO, Final Fantasy XI, & RIFT) to test if they act similar and they do not. I have not had one crash with any other game on my system.
SE, please diagnose this problem and hot patch it ASAP as folks that are paying for the game and your development are losing out on the experience that they are paying for.

Try to rename the FINAL FANTASY XIV that is located on My Documents> My Games. If it didn't work delete the new one and put the old one back on his place.

This could not honestly be the solution could it!!!??? NVIDIA released its new driver today and for the time being...the game is working. BUT!! SE released a patch today as well! So who gets the credit for a fix if this is truly the fix? Well that is where you come in...SOMEONE please do not install your new NVIDIA driver but do let the game do its thing. I am curious to whom to give credit for a fix. Please post your results.

Hmmm. You can try to downgrade to a older nvidia driver that you know that works well with FFXIV. If is still crashing the only thing i can think is that some file is corrupted and since FFXIV doesn't have a option to check the files the only way to fix that is to reinstall.

Otherwise, the only thing I can tell you is to try another graphics card driver :3

I went into the FFXIV settings and disabled the playback. I was able to play multiple hours after I had reinstalled the game and where I crashed was Gridania right by the aether. This was my first trip to Grid since the reinstall and I crashed right at the aether.Quote:

So it seems this is a Windows error of some sort. I tried running it in Compat Mode with XP SP3 with the same result (crash). I do not plan on reinstalling the game again due to the constant trouble I had the first go around with the errors and such. -

UPDATE: This incredibly odd. I opened the game on another system and moved my character to a Rent-A-Room in Gridania. I shut it down and opened it up on my main machine...The game works and I am logged in. What in the world is going on!?

This is happening again. The game was working fine over the past few days. I teleported to Gridania and it crashed right at the aether crystal. I logged in on my other system and it worked fine. I moved the character to the inn in Gridania and tried to load the game on the main system again, and it worked. I can function in my rent a room but as soon as I try to leave that rent a room and go into Gridania, I crash. I repeated this process many times.
I have run my memory test and with 12GB of memory I get a hardware error through the test but when I have 8GB seated, no error. So just to play it safe, I am just using 8GB. This has not fixed the problem however. I reseated my graphics card with no resolve. I transffered over my graphics card from the other machine, that didn't work.
IMO this has got to be a software issue. I have run AVG PC Tune-Up, CCleaner, SpeedFan, WindowsMem Diag, reinstalled the drivers on the graphics card, reseated all of my hardware. Please someone throw me a bone on what I may be missing here. I have posted another DXDiag here so that there is an updated one.

If you have another hard drive on the same pc try to install the game there. You should also check the SMART info on your hard drive (can use SpeedFan for it). Try to reinstall the DirectX End-User Runtimes June 2010.

I was having this issue often. I did three things, not sure which helped the most, but I've not had it happen since.
#1 updated my video card driver
#2 Took a vacuum and cleaned all the dust that had accumulated around the computer's fan
#3 Moved my computer on my desk so it wasn't stuffed in the corner by the wall to give it better air flow. -
03-20-2012, 12:13 AMEtheosI used SpeedFan for the SMART info (Indepth Online analysis) and it came back good with on Power On Hours being below normal but the test said that usually happens. I have reinstalled the DirectX EURuntimes June 2010. The game is currently playable on my External HD that I use for the transfer between the two computers. I am currently Copy/Pasting the files to my second hard drive on the system to try it from there.Quote:

03-21-2012, 10:58 AMEtheosSigny, I just want to give credit where credit is due. Your's and another's suggestion of SpeedFan led me to my final solution. While using SpeedFan to check SMART I decided to monitor my temps as well. Wouldn't you know it, my case is not a custom case and is just a factory case from ASUS and I was overheating my GPU & CPU. Pretty badly as well. I have taken the side of the case off and put a fan blowing on it. This is a temporary fix until I can find some extra cash to buy the Antec 900 case with multiple fans inside it. Nice, grats on finding the problem. Before spending money on a new case (if you really want it go ahead), you can try to fix the airflow of the one you have. Having a cheap case doesn't mean it can't be good, i have my pc on a very cheap case (have a Phenom II 955 and a ATI HD7950) and everything is under 50° on heavy load. It's all about how you make the air flow throw the case.

The main idea is to make a tunnel effect, where cool air enter in the front and hot air get out by the back/side. If you want you can post a picture of your pc so i can tell you what you have wrong.
Ah, another thing, make sure everything is clean, not just the GPU/CPU cooler, check the front panel where the air enter and the fans on the case. -

I've been experiencing a similar issue but not when logging in.
I have 3 machines which all run FFXIV perfectly fine. 1 of which is my monster PC i recently built that can play the game very well with the settings turned up pretty high.. but 1 of the others may need to a bit on the low side for it to run well.. either way they run the game fine..
Well, anyway.. at random times, the game will crash for almost no reason at all. sometimes it happens when i'm in the middle of a leve, other times it's when i'm just standing there. more recently it's been happening when i zone in and out of places that require the game to load another area.
being that it was happening on all 3 of my machines i didn't suspect it to be an installation error or problem with the software requiring a re-install but could be wrong.
any support would be much appreciated
the machines are all running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 all of which have the most recent driver updates and windows updates

being that this issue is occurring on all 3 of my machines at random times i do not believe it to be a hardware failure related issue or airflow issue. i have a thermatake tower for my main machine and the temp in there is nice and cool. also the memory sticks have their own heat spreaders. either way, re-seated all hardware and tested... same deal
I'm now noticing a directx error everytime saying "unable to detect directx device."
will do some research on that now though but thnx for the support
