yes please.
3500-4000 would be great since they keep making us have to use them each time a new expansion comes out, yeah.
That said. You also restock poetics so fast that whether it has a cap or not just seems silly.
Full agree. They changed it for the hunt but not for poetics. I don't get why. We do so many poetics with roulettes.
OMG YES, please make it unlimited or WAY higher than it has been for all these years.
Yes please.
Perhaps to encourage them to get some play out of the change they could add some sort of Rowena / Gobbie Bag quest. Help her construct and build a tomestone library, as recompense she gives you a section of your own (upgrading the library adds to poetics and perhaps other currencies/concepts).
But just in a general sense and no matter how they go about it, yes please~ I frequently hit that cap going "ah dang woops!" when doing a MSQ roulette or something lol.
Yes

It was fine in HW, and begrudgingly fine in SB, but with all of 50, 60 and 70 content all giving poetics keeping the cap at 2,000 really is being unreasonable at this point.
I wont say to make it unlimited as they will probably never do that no matter how much people beg for it, but double the current cap at the very least.
What are bots even going to do with poetics?
This is something I can get behind. Increase it to 4000, that way it's still stupid-easy to cap, but you have more wiggle room in case you forgot to spend them.
I don't even use poetics...I see no reason for them
Next to the guy who ranks you up and takes delivery of items for seals (inside your gc), is another person who you can exchange seals for armor and more. Talk to that guy, in the materials tab of the first rank is venture tokens :).
- The Immortal Flames: Flame Quartermaster - Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (x8,y9)
- The Order of the Twin Adder: Serpent Quartermaster - New Gridania (x9,y11)
- The Maelstrom: Storm Quartermaster - Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (x13,y12)
They're 200 a piece, so if you used every seal at a cap of 80k you'd get 400 tokens. Also there are some other neat items there, some are even for relic weapons so it's worth a browse :).
I would like this change as well. Especially since we're getting new Jobs with each Expansion as well. 4000 would be nice for a new cap.
The Quartermaster, lowester rank, materiel (if the link works)
while this thread is still relevant bc it’d be nice to increase the cap… i can’t get over the fact that it took you 2 years to respond to people talking to u…
Yes please. This would be awesome.
ya. I haven't been watching the ffxiv forums...I was thinking I would get an email notification...but if that exists, I cannot find a way to enable it :/. so I didnt realize I have to manually check for new posts. now that I do, I'll probably check it occasionally.
I can at least confirm for you there's no option to be notified ingame that you have a reply.
Yes please and thank you. *signed*
But what do we spend them on? It feels like now that they nerfed the Demicrystals down to being worthless, there's basically no use for them except to repurchase tome gear for leveling jobs, which I just keep laying around in the retainer so it's really more of a one and done deal. Even relic is kind of a temp spend situation.
Honestly, when you have everything at 80 for Combat Jobs, can't we just use Poetics for something I don't know, amenable? Free Teleport Tickets for example would be a good way to spend the extra Poetics instead of having them rot in inventory for years.
there are things to spend them on. the problem is you have to spend them every like 2 dungeons, because you can only store 2000 at a time.
if you could ignore them and them just dump them 10k at a time it would be far less annoying, the 2k limit has no purpose. it limits no gameplay, it gives no function, it doesnt stop any kind of exploiting. it just makes you stop what you are currently doing to dump poetics or ignore them and let them be wasted.
while the same is true of the level 80 tomestones...you get those FAR slower so it doesn't really matter.
Personally, using them for job gear is exactly the reason I wish the cap was higher than it was. You can only buy all but one piece of your left side with 2k, so you then need to go back and farm out some more for the right side and the missing piece of your left + weapon. It's tedious and especially irritating if you're picking up a job that doesn't start at level 1.
A 4k or even 5k cap would be great. It feels long past due, as well - we keep using these for each prior expansion's endgame gear for leveling, among other things. The limit being that small is a pain.
So people aren't spending the Poetics they already have, and the solution is......let them have more Poetics they'll forget to spend? I don't get it.
much of the time it isn't that they forget to spend them, they just don't wanna interrupt whatever they are doing to teleport to some play in the hinterlands to spend for for something useful every 2000 tomestones. if the cap was not 2000, then they could just spend them whenever they are nearby. and again, there is no purpose to the cap. it doesn't do anything as far as I can see.
As I said in a different response - in my case at least, it's a desire to be able to afford a full set of gear for a new job that I'm in the process of leveling, especially as we keep getting more jobs that start at 50/60/70/etc rather than from 1.
2k is not enough for a full set of gear; you will have to choose one side or the other and be left to either piecemeal some stuff together for the rest until you can afford more (which can be annoying if you want to be running stuff ON that job, for EXP as well as poetics), or wait until it's fully geared before jumping into roulettes with it, wasting EXP that the job could have been gaining.
Increasing the cap, at least to where we could be holding enough for a full set of gear (be it Ironworks, Shire, Scaevan, what have you), would honestly be a nice QoL. It isn't going to prevent people from running roulettes for poetics or for EXP just because they have a full set of gear for w/e level they're at, so the cap just feels a little arbitrary at this point.
Can't speak for others, though. But I don't think it would hurt anything to have it increased.
The 2k limit is there to prevent significant prefarming for a future use, such as a relic. If the cap was to be raided, the costs of the future uses would have to be raised as well to prevent that step from being "too easy" for those who have their tomes at the new cap, while it would disproportionately affect those who are using them.
These kind of decisions are not done lightly and are never as easy as they seem.
I would rather see the costs of old gear reduced to the point you can buy a full set with 2k.
Someone asked this back in 2016, Yoshida said that they way it was coded and server memory issue prevented this. I am no IT person, so I am going to take his word on this.
The tome counters are either an int or a short and the value is either signed or unsigned. The smallest of these, signed short, would still allow the number to reach 32,767 and because of how bytes work, it would have no additional load on the servers. It's purely a balancing decision to keep it at 2k.
Honestly? I'd be fine with that.
I still think the cap is arbitrary and a little pointless regardless of intended use, but if 2k is a hard-coded thing or a direct choice for tomestones then simply reducing gear price for each prior endgame vendor would be fine. That's honestly the biggest issue I think people have with the poetics cap.
