At 350 potency, it does less than Goring Blade's 390, meaning you'd just be reapplying a dot over and over again simply because the initial hit is higher. Looks like an oversight. Maybe that 350 is supposed to be a 450?

At level 60 Halone is upgraded to Royal Authority, a 550 potency attack.
You are already getting the highest potency finisher of all tanks that will allow you to spam another 550 potency skill three times. How greedy can a person be?
Rage of halone gets upgraded to 550 potency at 60 (becomes royal authority) i dont quite understand why halone needs a buff?
he just missed that rage of halone becomes royal authority and belive we PLD have it on lvl 80.
I know it upgrades to RA at 60, but it DOESN'T MAKE SENSE for it's initial hit to do less than Goring which is a DOT. Why would they make it to where you just hit Goring over and over again from 56-60?
Between the levels of 54 to 60 it's more effective to spam goring blade over rage of halone. It definitely needs something to make it useful to tanks at that range. (Looking at you, Ravana.)
They will probably nerf goring blade along with the other PLD potencies in the 1st patch.
If they really want Goring Blade to be that powerful, it would make more sense to bump its DoT potency (to 95, for example) and reduce its initial potency to around 300.
On a broader topic, I really fell that tank potencies are all over the place, considering you won't suffer any damage penalty whatsoever. Or maybe they'll change the formula so that the damage is more tied to initial potency instead of secondary stats so that itemization will be even less of a concern.
Jobs are balanced for 80 not 54.
You actually gain more dps to let the dot on goring do it's full length than to just spam that.
Only 40 pot difference from rage to goring each hit. Goring dot is 85 pot over 21s. 85x21 = 1785/3 = 595.
Over 21s assuming gcd of 2.5s is 21/2.5 = 8.4. so baseline you will do about 8 gcds in the time the dot ticks. Takes 3 gcd to hit goring, so 2 goring over 21s for only 40x3 = 120 potency.
595 > 120, assuming my maths aren't wrong since I'm not super mathy
For real. Man I feel like I've been the only one complaining about progging Ravana HM synced for years with Halone, crying for Yoshi-p to save me to no avail.
I keep sending him emails that this is an injustice that Halone is not as effective as Goring blade and he still continues to laugh in my face. Let alone taking away my beloved Halone for a 550 potency move that I'll be carrying to lvl 80? Disgraceful.
Ya know, buffed Higanbana on SAM is 1440 potency. Why would you ever want to use anything but that?

DoT's have to have a high potency to compensate for the fact their damage is a DoT. Not upfront. Just use it once, spam your other combo, and maintain DoT uptime.
That's not how dots work. Tooltips show the potency of each dot tick. In the case of Goring Blade, that's 85 potency per dot tick, or 595 over 21 seconds.
That said, you're right about Goring spam being better, since its initial hit is 390 potency, while Halone is a 350 potency attack.
Yeah, brain fart, idk why I was thinking that. (Wouldnt make sense either) (EDIT: I know why, its because I know I have to figure out the total potency, by dividing the time by 3, then multiplying it by the potency. so i defaulted into thinking i still needed to figure out the potency per tick, when being mentioned like this, but i dont need to figure anything out, as the per tick was all we needed to know.)
But back on topic, the amount of dmg you get from the ticks between combo finishers doesnt change. which is why goring is still better.
If you "let it finish" its DoT duration, you just refresh it up with another goring blade.
so assume its up 100% of the time.
in both cases, its up ~100% of the time.
so all there is, is to look at which combo does more dmg on its own direct potency.
time to destroy plebs on dps on low levels with this.... AWESOME
Yes, Goring Blade is better from level 54 (when Goring Blade is acquired) up to level 60 (when Rage of Halone is upgraded to Royal Authority)
During that short level span there is no point in using Rage of Halone.
During levels 26-53, and levels 60-80 there are plenty of reasons to use Rage of Halone/Royal Authority.
Nothing to worry much about, it is just for a few short levels that Rage of Halone is useless.
No, it doesn’t. It becomes Royal Authority which is what, 600 pot?
It already was better than rage of halone, nothing has changed. I used to spam goring blade from 56-60 after getting hate as it was.
