Ok. Since this ability has a 15 minute cooldown and rarely used, I would like to see some numbers from other people and on what mob to get a feel of how it really works!

I've only used it on skellies in darkhold but i was hitting them for 1k+ pretty nice if you ask me. I would have tested it more but im far to sleep deprived
Did 1k to this peiste I helped some mnks kill
Along 1500~ DMG in the new instanced raids, on trash mobs. Only worthwhile when you got a really large bunch of mobs around you, best served with ring of talon as dessert =D
Pretty lame for an 15mins CD... But comes in handy with large groups, and remember... Don't forget to elusive jump the hell out of there afterwards XD
Agree. They need to up the dmg or lower the CD on Dragonfire Dive. It seems really underpowered for a spell that's on that long of a CD.
15 minute cool downs are fine.
1) Last time I checked the cap is still 50...
2) Most other FFs are lvl 90~99 capped...
3) other mmo (FFXI) didnt have cap increase until its expansions started...
4) lvl ~90~99 EXP mobs exist in ffxiv for a reason...
Do the math, ffxiv hasnt even hit its first cap increase yet and ppl
are bitching about BLM not having Meteor and DRG not having better dmg for its 15 minute ability.
You're lucky SE made these abilities 15 minute CDs and not 2 Hours like in ffxi.
tl;tltr: too early for cap increase dev wise; abilities are relative to future planned content; stop menstruating;
can you use keen flurry on it?
Don't worry guys, blm mnk and other jobs feel like their 15 min ability is underpowered as well. I for one think its decent
Well, I did try to use Dragonfire Dive paired with Blindside but...I overshot the jump and missed my mark on the way down!
In a serious note, I just tested this...again, Blindside does not appear to be consumed by Dragonfire Dive, even when executed from behind an immobile target.
D=
Any job ability that does not cost TP (DF and Jump) are not affected by Blindside, Blood for Blood, Keen Flurry, Hawk Eye (or whatever that ARC accuarcy ability is called) because the lack of TP (I assume) does not qualify it as a weapon skill.
Case in point, you can Vorpal Thrust -> Impulse Drive -> Jump/Dragonfire -> Chaos Thrust without interrupting the combo.
I tried it for the first time last night on the Ogre in the last paladin fight I did about 340 damage to him
I saw some crazy numbers against alux with dragonfire dive,6k but i assume it was a critical hit.
I tried to compare dragonfire dive and doomspike critacals against alux.
And i was stunned, doomspike +blindside and blood for blood do 4k critical on alux unlike dragonfire dive.
Well i don't know if alux is weak against fire, this should explain the crazy numbers.
He's also lvl 35.
In FF Tactics, DRGs can use Fire, Thunder and Ice based breath. I find Dragonfire Dive, the replacement of that breath attack, do you think Dragonthunder and Dragonblizzard Dive will come after this?
I could use some dragon lightning myself
Pretty nice idea Tyro.
I was hoping the attack would have actually been a Fire breath based attack when I first read it's vague description but what we have now is still pretty nice. Other elements would top it off nicely.
On another note, does anyone know if it's boosted more by STR or by PIE more?
I'm really curious why more people don't complain about this ability? 15 min. to do a somewhat weak fire aoe that can be resisted. Come on people we need to get the devs to take notice that the 15 min. spells need to be looked at!
On 2 minutes timer, the Dread Spike is hardly any use to mitigate damage in battle with frequent heavy damage. Especially more that it consumes currently active surge, which usually translate to 1500tp and 1.5 minutes without 100+ attack power.
On the side note, Dragoon has long combos now:
Vorpal Thrust > Impulse Drive > Chaos Thrust (with miss) > Full Thrust > Feint (Have to be quick) > Disembowel
Considering Full Thrust gives TP, and Feint only takes 250TP, it's actually beneficial to miss one hit of Chaos Thrust - considering to start another combo Impulse Drive is on 30 seconds timer.
Since the combo takes a while, usually needs to refresh Power Surge prior to, it would help if Power Surge last a bit longer . _ ., or even lowering the timer to 15 secs like Life Surge so it can be refreshed with more flexibility.
I have done Coincounter only twice, came out #1 on damage for both, thought not by much - about 1~2k damage lead (failed both fight when it's at 30% hp)
oh wow, didn't think about missing a chaos thrust O_o haha Nice tip
I did just fine on coincutter in fact dragoon makes a very good job to kill any slugs that get near the boss or mages. As for 100 ton hammer you are not supposed to try and absorb the damage, you are supposed to get out of range of the ability.
As for Dread spike I agree it is the suck, so much that I just never use it, I would prefer something like bloodbath.
